Illusions aren't useless though. In that specific case it has power over many other humans and can be used to receive wares or services from them.

Actually most countries have not been on the gold standard for years.  If everyone lost faith in the ability to get goods and services in exchange for Euros or Dollars or whatever currency, they would be valueless.

Umm i dont think thats true, the UK has 0 Gold, stupid Gordon Brown sold it all for rock bottom price, fucking Labour muppets, and the pound is sstill a pretty strong currency

No country uses the gold standard as basis for its monetary system anymore. Today it's just make-believe, new money is generated in central banks by typing numbers into computers, primarily for speculation in the investment banking sector.
