While I was browsing the site today, i noticed something about the Long War Axe. Despite being cheaper, longer and heavier than the Bec de Corbin, it is also faster somehow. This makes little sense and seems to deviate from the rules other weapons are structured by. Just look at the last and most expensive polearms on the list, you'll see that they all follow a pattern, (heavier = slower, the only time a lighter weapon is slower is when it's significantly longer). This is simply not happening with these two. If you disregard damage types, one weapon (the cheaper one) clearly has an obvious advantage. The fact that they deal different damage types should be practically negligible when balancing because they are already so similar in every other regard; the stats just need a little tweaking to actually make some sense.
thnx for reading

The bold part, which you want to ignore, is where the real difference is. Pierce (plus blunt in secondary mode) >>>>>> Cut. One (axe) is a versatile all-in-one type of weapon, whereas the other one is specifically for penetrating high armour and is one of a kind.
34p is better than 42c against anything heavier than medium armor, 26p is much better than 16b in the stab, it has a secondary mode with blunt damage, ...
Bec being faster would make it too strong imo.
-
The bec fills its niche perfectly, no need to buff it. The pierce damage and length make it a great close quarters choice for strength leaning polearmers.
-
I believe Long Axe's speed should be nerfed by 1 though, currently it's too fast.
-
Thanks for the replies. I feel like I need to clear something up though... I am not trying to get the bec buffed, I just believe that the Long War Axe is currently too fast.
I think we can all agree that a longer and heavier weapon should NOT be faster as well. It's nonsensical and I think it was an oversight.

Clearly bladed weapons are more aerodynamic.

man got jokes
where's my "wind-resistance value" on the weapon info list?
Overhaul NAOW

Long axe should at least lose 5 speed, bec should lose 3

Just because you have the reaction speed of a snail doesn't mean the game has to be slowed down for you.

I have the reaction speed of a snail yet I don't have much trouble blocking masterwork short swords and bastard swords. Less than blocking long axes anyway. Polearm swing animations are broken, it's not my fault.
-
I've got around average reaction-time and I have no problem with long axes.
-
I don't dislike the Bec or the Long War Axe, I just want their respective stats to make sense.

I am quite sure it must be a subjective thing, probably what you are used to or what not.
I for instance have greater problems countering 1handers than polearms, and there, my greatest problems are awlpikes and dezis poleaxe ^^
considering OP:
the bec used to be a lot faster and stronger, and was so very op that it was one of the most used polearms. since then it got tweaked a large bit to make it the balanced weapon it is today. this happened to the sacrifice of internal polearm balance, but was necessary. In practice, the lwa is a bit strong considering its big brother, however not in relation to the bec imo.

while with my 180 wpf and steel pick, Kafein when concentrating on me or being in a duel like situation, he can block every one of my hits and rarely if at all fails to my feints.
My reaction time, i have no clue how to messure it and give anyone a suitable answer if asked,
not like i would time it with a watch
In comparison when i encounter lvl 30 to lvl 35 players with Great Long Axe, becs, throwing lance in sec mode or Quaterstaff ... often even when perfectly timed and i would also be on the good side with my movement patterns, i still get at least the feeling(you can just tell me i am wrong) that there is either a frame skipping just happend or i blinked when the spam hit me or sth, if none of that, then the speed of those weapons for that type of animation in comibation of some users WPF and lvl may just be a tiny little bit ... unbalanced.
I have no clue why in some cases i get hit by those weapons, as when i check the pings of the enemies varry from pretty much the same as i have to really bad pings, but in any case it is happening, so you tell me what may be the problem there. So i am an avverage player with quite some ingame time, but this is happening for years and not only lately and i get the confirmation onto this from several players, so please dont tell me it is only me either *sigh*
People often arent able to block Steel Pick, becasue it is very short, small and not that visible therefor in its animation, but what i am experience and tried to describe is the complet lack of an animation and being hit anyways. Well i guess if it is not me, nore the game or the playerstats, tehn it could still be my computer, who but well then again has no problem sofar shown with this game.
EDIT: what else it could be , that because of the spam and the high WPF ... the animation is not even shown, i only get the sound of being hit but no visuals

You're not alone, I have exactly the same problem. Stabs and overheads are smooth but sideswings are skipping frames big time. Both 1h and 2h on the other hand have very nice and smooth animation... :?

Also don't forget that heavier weapon has better chance to stun the opponent's weapon. IMHO that should also count when balancing speed factors.

As a Great Long Axe user (MW has 92 speed) I notice sometimes I can hit incredibly fast. Think that's what they call hiltslash. Requires being really close and some footwork though, I haven't figured it out enough to use consistently.
Yet I also should notice that 1h and 2h can do incredibly fast hits as well, so... hard to tell what is most OP.

aaaaah  i alsways thought hiltslash would be something like a nudge, soemthing activated by a special key , damn took me to learn that shit 3 years  Thanks for that explanation! Well then there are several players who can do so on a regular base. On EU servers f.e. Pepel, Elmuri, Tor(the first one where i noticed it years ago), Nokeyboard and a few more. They all have fairly high athletics so they can position themselves to the left/right and "slightly behind" of their opponents and then left/right swing while face hugging. There is not much more to it. Works like in 70-80% of all cases and is pretty much without any animation, just the sound that you got hit and the dumb feeling that something just went wrong without being able to point the finger onto it.
Now the question is, is this "animation abuse" or is it a viable tactic? Is it something which could be changed by stats adjustment or only by also adjusting the swing animations of polearms?
Also no argument that 1h is and but also should be powerfull because of speed. Therefor 1h has less reach and less damage. For me the question is more shouldnt 2h/pole have more problems in movement speed because of longer and heavier weapons they use then 1h(1h/shield, the shield already gives restrictions in several ways in terms of weapon and movemetn speed)

As someone who used to wear plate 24/7, the bec did horrifying damage to me each swing regardless of angle, while the LWA would glance sometimes and do far less damage.
Balanced.
-
Whether you glance or not, I've found relies mostly upon your footwork and build. It's hardly a deciding factor to a weapon's effectiveness that you're making it out to be.
Longer and Heavier should not be faster. This should be common sense.
-
Nerf bec
No but seriously Gurnisson we must know more about the girl in your signature.
EDIT : Lol - Gall and Kaokid...it's called a joke diaper boys.

at least stay on topic

long axe and not the longsword!?
