Title: Thinking about coming back to cRPG
Post by: SeQuel on January 26, 2014, 07:53:26 pm
I had a couple of questions since I'm pretty outta the loop.

1. I was playing a 1 hander before I quit 1-2 years ago, is 24/15 still a viable build? I may go a 1hand build and continue it as I was a steel pick/elite cav shield before I quit. I notice I had a free respec due to stat changes anything I should know about this?

2. How are looms now? I recall not being able to archer NEARLY as effective if you didn't have loomed bow/arrows.

3. Hey everyone.

Atm archery and especially HA is OP as fuck, will probably get nerfed.

Str got nerfed a bit, so 24/15 will be a little harder than normal (you no longer get free wpf per level, only for agi and wm).
Doesn't mean you can't still be a tank (there are still pure str fans that play with 20 wpf now, instead of 100 like they had pre-patch)

So what are the common builds now?

1) Its still viable but you're going to have a lot less wpf for 1h if you do this over a 21/21 or 18/21 build. Or higher agi as well but it seems you want high PS.

2) Looms are roughly the same except that unloomed archer gear is much better than it was and that loomed bows were nerfed. So an archer using an unloomed bow and arrows can compete pretty well.

3) Hai Sequel! Welcome back!

24/15 will be almost exactly the same as before if you go 1h/shield.  Shields all got an armor (resistance) buff recently, but most lost a little weight as well (so easier to crushthrough).  You won't get as much WPF for 1h if you have 5 WM now versus before (6 WM is the "break even" point for the most part if you put WPF into one proficiency).  But you will have almost as much as before.

Archery got fucked over with looms (not sure specifics) but they basically made it so loomed bows and arrows were not much better than the non-loomed versions.  People still cry about them being OP (which they are weaker than they've ever been), but when in numbers people still rage and cry about them (what's new, there will be people crying about ranged until all throwing, xbows and bows are removed).

Welcome back, I think servers are (were up til yesterday) still giving out double XP, at least on battle and siege (not dtv).

there are new stab animations,  and the 1h stab is now one of the strongest,  high agi 1handers are doing quite well these days.

3. Hey everyone.

1) 24/15 1H/shield is viable as ever. WPF was rebalanced to prevent people from stacking strength and putting nothing into agility/WM. With 5 WM you will have a little less than before, but not enough to make a drastic difference. Higher agi builds are more common since going above 6 WM gives greater benefits with each level gained, but PS has not been nerfed and 8 PS is still plenty deadly. Also, you no longer gain WPF from character level. Instead, agility raises your WPF (but less so than levels in WM).

2) Melee/armor has been tweaked but not changed much. Archery looms were rebalanced. +0 bows and arrows are better than before. Loomed bows/arrows have smaller bonuses than before.

1hand stab is the easiest attack to land now, so stabby 1handers are overused and overpowered

I just came back after some time.  Was in game and kept getting killed by swords cutting through my shield blocks.  Someone said it was a new feature, not sure if they were just trolling.  Any one know about this, or was I just lagging?

You were most likely lagging, or had dropped your shield block and hit it right away.  If you drop block with shield it doesn't come up right away like a manual block does (even if the animation looks all the way raised).

Suggestion: Fire up a STF and test out a build before you spec your main. Since you're a veteran coming back after a decent hiatus tweaks have been done all over the place, so things may not be as you remember it. Most of the big changes have been mentioned already, but you can (and should) look at the patch notes to get a feel for what's changed item balance wise.

Since animations have been tweaked quite a bit (not across the board, but pretty close) it's probably a good idea to get a feel for cRPG on a STF. That will also grant you a sense of what the NA meta is comprised of and allow you to decide on a build accordingly.
