Title: Head turn when free-look / free-look limit
Post by: Sniger on January 14, 2014, 06:17:58 pm
Would it be possible/too hard to make it so that the heads turn in the direction the player is free-looking? this so that we can see if we are spotted, for example when coming up from behind to attempt a backstab

limit free-look: im not so sure about this one, if it have too much impact on gameplay but how about limiting the free-look based on head-item used? would it kill gameplay too much? free-look'ers use it enough to become annoyed by this? personally I think it would add a nice level to the game, players would have to consider mobility/protection above looks when picking gear and I wouldn't mind it myself eventho I currently use semi-heavy gear

edit: first things first

keep it as it is.

cavs get enough free kills for people that don't use it / are afk / peasants.

they should die or at least lose their horse sometimes when trying to cowardly backstab someone.

Because hiding the fact that you see them isn't equally cowardly.

It just forces cav into being increasingly cowardly, since they have no actual role and shit like this gets them killed with no way to avoid it unless remembering who does it.

It is not cowardly, as every player knows that this function is in the game, and it's their own "risk" to backstab someone.

Just as everyone else knows that they must watch their back for cav.  Conclusion:Everyone is equally cowardly...or not.

not just player vs. player but also when team working, for example you can see if your mate have noticed the incoming backstabbing enemy or not

I'm doing that all the time, but for me it's helping to keep in distance non shielders :)

Simply take it out and make people rotate to see what's behind them! It's like that in every game.

Probably not something they will do for cRPG, but for the next game hopefully you get a more realistic way of looking around that restricts your view a bit without turning your body. It doesn't matter about cav because they will be balanced with the new turning system in mind or you will be more aware of cav with other cues like improved sound system or other awareness indicators on the hud. In real life horses would not be as sneaky as in cRPG, some of that could be brought into the game somehow for balance reasons

After saying this though I do think that people would just adapt if we removed free look. We would just physically turn around sometimes to check for dangers like in any other game. I wouldn't really mind if it was removed because it would be a limitation everyone would have to adapt to. If cav got too strong then they would be balanced in some way

head turn 360 lal have abit of imagination -_-

when free-looking 180 (behind me) head could just be turning like 40º-60º or something, IRL your head isnt turned around 180º when you are looking back thats not possible

and i cant see why and how this little detail would ruin the mod.

Most people would probably say you could see about 120° in either direction.  However, if you exert yourself, you will probably hurt yourself.

I'm a fan of either disabling freelook or disabling actions during freelook.  Of course, animating it would be the first step.

Fuck this suggestion, this is a game not real life.
You may feel when a cav charges towards you,you may hear it's sound properly, feel the vibrations its causing, even the fucking wind can carry the beast's own smell to your nose, yet this is an indie game with limited sound quality and poor graphics,it doesn't trigger other emotions of human.
So basically removing this feature will blind everyone and fuck this game's balance completely.
