Title: Best Games of 2013
Post by: Grumbs on January 13, 2014, 08:47:28 am
My top5..

The Walking Dead Season 2. Decent start to the new series
The Wolf Among Us. Not bad. Nice presentation and story
Shadowrun Returns. Pretty mediocre in its individual areas imo, but a good game overall. Worth a play through
Game Dev Tycoon. Casual but fun for a bit
Europa Universalis 4. Epic

Really hard question cuz there wasn't THE big game for me.

I was pleasantly surprised by Assassin's Creed Black Flag but it sure isn't the best one, I guess.

Funny enough, I have to say Saints Row 4 :?

Although I didn't play it in 2013 but it's a 2013 game. I have a hard time remembering a game that I actually played as much in such a short time simply cuz it is just overall great. I've done like 75% main story now and never was I bored, never did I curse any mechanic - it's just a really good game with a huge amount of fun.
So, yeah... there you go: my best game 2013 is Saints Row 4!  8-)

I'd post some games of 2013 but I'm still amazed by the horse armor DLC from oblivion.

Not necessarily the best games of 2013 for me but looking over my steam list the ones I bought were:

Risk of Rain
Teleglitch
Volgarr the Viking
Rogue Legacy
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon (thanks Steam, for letting me know I needed Uplay)
Legend of Dungeon
Metro: Last Light

I guess Warframe technically isn't a beta anymore either.

But there are so many endings and choices. It got to be a videogame, in which what you do actually changes something. Whoa man

I second Rogue Legacy although I would have liked it better if they ditched the bad aspects of retro 2D platformers. Most of all, only having one basic attack animation is stupid.

Reminds me that I didn't play any new game and I'm still entertained by older games to play 6-10 hours straight a day.  :D

The Last of Us beats everything easily. I know it's not a PC title but you owe it to yourselves to play it. Definitely set the bar for games for what will most likely be years to come.

PC-wise? Meh, didn't find anything new I really liked enough to mention. At least nothing comes to mind.

that's because they keep dumbing games down to the point where they are all pretty easy/similar. :(

I looked at a fair few lists of 2013 games, and wow 2013 must have been a really shit year.  I mean games like papers please, brothers:2sons, gone home are up on these lists. both those games were very good, but neither lasted more than a couple hours. was there really no proper games last year? or can I just not remember them?

I guess the biggest titles were: gta5, lastofus, bioshock, and kind of pokemonXY. poor PC gamers.

I'm really stuggling to pick 5 games, none of these I really loved, but I just don't think that 2 hour experiences deserve GOTY.

- xcom enemy within.
- ac4 black flag
- bioshock infinite
- tombraider
- total war, rome 2

(last light and red orchestra should probably be on this list, but Ive barely played them.)

But enemy within is only really DLC, ac4 is terribly designed, rome 2 flawed and unfinished, infinite takes itself seriously which pisses me off. I think tombraider actually might have been my GOTY, which is a massive surprise to me too since its not that original just well made and enjoyable. Also I excluded pokemon XY even tho I did play it, because they no longer let you even start an unsavable game on someones copy, its a fucking joke seriously nintendo go fuck yourselves.

The Last of Us beats everything easily. I know it's not a PC title but you owe it to yourselves to play it.

Sure, lend me your ps3.

PS: rockstar you cant port games to PC properly anyway, fuck you too.

1. Last of Us
2. Europa Universalis 4
3. The Wolf Among Us
4. Rust (Really enjoying this with my friends)
5. Prison Architect

I know 2 of those are still in Alpha but technically they are "released" just not complete.

I was legitimately letting people within my group of friends irl borrow my PS3 and/or copy of The Last of Us just so they could play it, it's seriously amazing. Too bad my PS3 just died recently and my PS4 ain't backwards compatible yet

pretty sure it will never be, they will however let you buy a subscription to stream old games but ignore what you already own.

Last of Us
GTA V (single player, multiplayer was shit and i stopped playing)
State of Decay
c-rpg

If I had more time I'd love to get into Rust or the DayZ alpha.  And if Gloria Victis had North American servers, I'd jump all over the alpha of that game (looks so promising).

Well, I'm playing Breakdown (the dlc) and I've enjoyed it a lot. I'll admit the storymode is quite boring, but the harder and more challenging breakdown mode is awesome. You basically play until you die, there's no end level. The game is just plain fun, everything from managing your group of survivors, leveling them, building your base, (bases are a bit lackluster tho) crafting explosives and surviving hordes of zombies in creative ways never gets old either. It's the best game of its kind out there, and I cant wait for the followup game with multiplayer.

why? it's still in early alpha

It's the only zombie game I know that fails to make working zombies. Hollaholla we buildt all the background blablabla, it's early alpha etc. You know that shits getting old. How long have they spent on this? And apart from a few additions and a whole lot of promises the game is lackluster as an empty coconut, and it will be for a long time.

I'm having way too much fun with Starbound, it's like Terraria but with pretty much endless exploration.

yeah borked zombies in day-z would really piss me off (That's why i stopped playing the mod for Arma 2).  Hope they get it right with the alpha, but I'll wait before jumping back on that bandwagon
