Title: Rondel dagger swing damage type change
Post by: Gimest on January 11, 2014, 05:21:21 pm
I think it would be nice balance decision to change rondel's swing damage from pierce to cut.

Then they could just aswell delete it. If you gave it cut it would just be another dagger  :?

We're doing some other stuff to it.

I think a lot of people, including me, wouldn't mind it getting deleted at all.

That's how strong and dumb the anti-rondel rage is

If, one day, there comes another combat sim which allows you to precisely aim the damn dagger into armor openings, come back and I'll agree about the dumbness of it all. Also enlighten me as to how reasonable it is for a dagger to damage plate. I am not even going to talk about the stabs. Let us just agree for a moment that stabs are able to penetrate heavy armor. And what about swings?

You know what Kafein? I am dumb simply because I am trying to discuss this shit. It is plain absurd and I shouldn't even be here trying to explain why.

There has never been anything at that price point that was as powerful

The main problem is 1 hand stab though and using them with shields (without the lack of blocking which I think was the point of daggers)

Regardless of whether the rondel was too powerful or not, it is now way worse than the long dagger. That's what I'm talking about when I say the rondel rage is dumb.

Pierce damage on swings, still make it a better choice for me (compared to long dagger).

I always thought the pierce damage on swings was to reflect an effect like this, too bad the model doesn't really look like that when the weapon mode is switched:

It was supposed to get the model rotated to reflect that while in alt mode, but that never happened.

Is it not rotated the same way as 1h axes right now ? Which would be hard to see for a rondel dagger ofc.

Also enlighten me as to how reasonable it is for a dagger to damage plate.

Daggers have short and slim blade, perfect for piercing things.

Dont forget that while plate armor offers excelent protection, it isnt some kind of adamantium turtle shell. Even plate armor can be pierced with a good weapon and enough force.

I also think that half-swording is pretty overrated. I mean yeah it is a good technique if you want be sure you land a lethal hit, but I seriously doubt that nobody can land a stab that pierces plate armor without using halfswording.

Note: This heavily depends on the armor itself and the physique of your adversary.

Right now I do believe it rotates the same as the axes, which means you can't tell anything changes because it's a cylinder. You'd have to rotate around a different axis to get it to reflect the different hand hold as was originally intended.
