In the strategus map, it would be great to have some Strategus fiefs that we can defend/attack with feasible ping :) Australians love strategus, and the only deterrant is the ping :(
EU has it, NA has it, why can't we?
-
Presumably because there's so few of you and so nobody cares. In any case, why on Earth would you post about it here on the M:BG forum rather than the Strat one?
-
Maybe some kind of prison island.

Maybe some kind of prison island.
All cheaters deported to 300 ping servers
-
 That would be fantastic.

Well I get that it's a joke, but in all seriousness something is better than nothing. Just something like 2 fiefs and a castle would be adequate.
@ OkiN, the reason why there's so few of us could be partially because we have limited game-experience when compared to the other communities. Naturally if something has a better/deeper experience, they'll be more likely to hang around wouldn't you say? I dunno why I posted here, maybe because I think it's relevant if strat is integrated into Melee. I dunno :P
But there are >10 Aussie players who engage in strategus; despite playing with 230/330 ping. It'd also add interest to strat.
-
What's the point if you add 2 fiefs and 1 clan will control it, you will just sit there and nobody would attack you because nobody will bother playing with 350 ping and you wouldn't attack anyone because you would straight out lose every battle on eu/na.
-
If you could make an Australasian Server it could host a China and Australia Strat-map, i know ping wouldnt be perfect between the 2, but it'd be better than what they have now, and save having to cater for so few player alone. Many Australian and Chinese players have shown willingness to play even with huge ping disadvantage, i think they'd appreciate the effort even if not perfectly executed.
The point is having home ping advantage if you're attacked by EU or NA, and attacking elsewhere with bad ping if you feel like taking a risk. Of course Chinese community is big enough to make it's own drama on a China/Australia map.
Actually the ping from AUS to CN is worse than AUS to NA for the only AUS player I have talked to.
-
Chinese community is large enough to deserve its own strat area - hundreds of players in size, competitive with NA and EU sized communities.
-
give australia a small island in the sea :D
-
Really? It's nearly double the distance.
China to Australia should be roughly similar to EU to NA. By no means perfect but 120 ping is vastly better than 300+, it's playable at least, just not great for dueling. And if the server was somewhere in between both China and Australia should have better ping than an EU playing in NA (or vice versa) if just based on distance.
Yeah. We were screwing around on the NA servers and I asked him why he doesn't just play on the CN servers instead. He said he gets 320 in NA and 400 in CN. I didn't believe him so we went to the CN server and sure enough he did.
-
Australia has best ping with NA as we have fibre optic cable running under the sea straight from both our countries and a solid network set up. The network between China and Australia is junk and we get much higher ping. For Aussies living in Sydney NA is 240ping with EU and China both around 350ping.
Even though I would not play in their map I think China has clearly shown they have the numbers, solid server and motivated strat players to deserve their own map.
As much as I would like for Aussies to have a few fiefs im pretty sure with the next strat due to start it is to late for this round. There are 100's of Aussie CRPG players and I really think they would need to show a solid server for the entire period of strat5 to have a chance for strat6 even though its a good chance Battlegrounds will take over and strat5 will be the last version for CRPG.
-
I wouldn't worry too much about Melee:Battlegrounds. Its not due until Dec. 2010.
-
Yeah Aus Ping to China isn't too great, Japan I get 150 which is playable. I think the chinese have some sort of barrier to stop people playing on their servers or something so that the minnimum ping is set to 300 or something.
-
Australia does need a few fifes, maybe ? 3-5 fifes and 1-2 castles would do the trick.
I love the look of strat but fucking playing it on high ping we are currently getting 50-60 people on in peak times although we don't have a huge community its a damn active one seein as everyone knows each other give us fucking strat !

That approach is only going to give us less chance of getting fiefs

Harden up bro. There are us hard-types willing to play / contribute with high ping - look at dutchy and his engineering crew. Or is it all about K/D and your fragile ego can't handle the whooping you'll get with a high ping?
60 players isn't enough to warrant a whole strat map I don't think.
In my opinion if Aussie's want to get involved in Strat -- get involved. Make diplomatic relations so you have enough low-ping mercs for any Castles / Fiefs you own, just like everyone else.
If you all want to be part of separate (Aussie) clans, fine, have your clans, and just combine them into a single Aussie strat force (faction) -- Look at FCC and Central Confederacy sharing resources across multiple clans (within each faction, not between them, lol).
-
I think the Chinese should get a strat battle server setup and have a portion of the strat map fought on China servers. But I can see them doing the same for Australia possibly too (to a smaller extent).
-
Maybe only a small part of the map for Australians? I mean , EU and NA has complete Calradia, but AUS can have only Swadia maybe...
edit: If there will be an active strat for Aus , i bet more of them will play.

Yeah that's what I meant, we'd require a very small portion. And the implementation of Strategus would fortify a cRPG player/base as not only would there be more to do in this mod, but it'd add more variation as opposed to doing battle 24/7.
Nice to have some support :D

I don't have the numbers for active oceanic players, but I do remember when strat came out, a lot of us got on board, even with 250-350 ping, there was a good contingent playing every day. I was organising for a group of 25 or so at one point and we were just one of several quasi-clans trying to get an advantage in c-rpg by working the strat system, which was very rewarding at the time.
We used to have a laugh playing with an all 300 ping team against totally unprepared bands of newbies or just earning our keep fighting for wealthy EU clans who payed by the kill. The incentive eventually fell through though, with the upkeep patch. It was easy enough to get whatever we wanted in c-rpg that playing on unplayable servers lost its charm. The fun of strategus, capturing our own castles and so on was never really an option for us, because of the lack of server support.
The oceanic community is practically dead now, though a new server is getting some players, it's a bunch of veterans rather than the constant turnover that we used to get. I've noticed overseas servers also have far fewer players these days, so maybe it does seem more significant to have killed off this community with patches biased against small populations and no strategus server, or official server of any kind, when once upon a time there was a lot of interest. Really, I doubt it concerns the devs much and it's a free mod, but if it does, I hope they can see where they screwed up and work on not making that kind of mistake in the future.
Edit: On compatibility with Asia: we can play goofy but not constantly rubberbanding matches with Japanese and Korean players, with pings from 120-180 usually, (in fact I believe there are some JP players who spend all their time on AU servers) but with China, ping is around 200 and very unstable, while the ping with America is a bit higher, but not nearly as unstable.

I guess they'll be focussing on M:BG. :/
