Title: How much gear?
Post by: Belhade on May 15, 2011, 11:21:19 pm
I've noticed that I have (what I believe to be) quite a bit of equipment. I just made level 31, still first gen, about to retire.

I gear up with sets by theme, or by looks mostly. Things that look good together, like Mail shirts with Splinted Leather greaves, or heraldic/transitional armor with a Mail Coif, or all leather and a plain tunic with Quarterstaff. Being first gen and only character I ended up with a hybrid build and points in pretty much everything except X-bows.

Currently I've got a lot of green gear: Green Tunic, Green Tunic over Mail, green Surcoat over Mail, Green Corrazina Armor. My main weapon is the Heavy Bastard, but I also use a Flanged Mace and Kite shield, or a Long Dagger. I also have a Ninja set; Black Lamellar, Black Hood with Mask, black Khergit Leather boots, Katana and Wakizashi. Also a Bow and Khergit arrows, a cheap horse and Light Lance, the aforementioned Quarterstaff, half a dozen different helmet styles, a few gloves/gauntlets and leggings... a GGreatsword and War Darts. Hell, I even have some peasant gear for my upcoming retirement. All within first gen. Why do I need all this stuff??

So how many sets of differing gear do other people keep around?

A few. Chosen mostly for looks, at a given level of heaviness. My infantry chars have five sets each (some sharing items between them), ranging from just clothes to transitional armour.

Does anyone know which plate armor is the one that shows your banner on the surcoat?

One set, no side weapons, no ladders/c'n'b sites right now (i used to have construction site, construction material, siege ladder and medium ladder but since the slot thingy came i don't use it anymore). I am thinking about a backup crossbow tho.

on my main all equipment categories aside from throwing bows and xbows and ammo are filled (meaning that the rest fall off the screen)

Heraldric transitional armour is probably the one you're after. It's the heaviest heraldric piece.

Same here. If i want an item, even just for fun, i buy it. It's nice to be able to choose. I think i have a dozen one handers and at least half a dozen different outfits.

I currently own 24 different body armors, with a few sets of all-purpose glove and boot combinations, as well as over a dozen helms that I mix and match into a few sets that sometimes I change up. I switch what armor set I wear pretty much every map, and typically I'll try to pick a weapon that looks good with that as well. That, in turn, works out to pretty much every decent polearm (and a few others for fun or style) as well as a handful of 1handers and 2handers (which I don't have any proficiency in), and two kinds of crossbow for when a map comes around that I wouldn't be able to stand playing regularly.
I've also got several different ladders and siege shields and construction sites and materials and all of that sort of thing...

It's frustrating having to sell items whenever I want to buy another one that I don't currently own, because of that bug that causes some of them not to show up in-game when you own too many.

What a bunch of spoiled brats showing off their fancy equipment sets......i sure hope they implement the ability to plunder your corpses after we spill your guts all over the place (we'd take only the pieces of armor that are not ruined for good, lets say.....10-20% of gear ?).  It would be a good addition to strategos battles, to somewhat compensate the gear we "spend" during the fights.

One of the things I love about this game/mod is the name recognition.

I can spot and name 30-40 people by their armor.  It is important to memorize everyone who can beat me in a fight, So I can avoid a one on one.

When really good players switch up their armor so people don't recognize them so they get better K:D.... that's just cheat/wrong/lame/makes me rage.

I fucking hate when people switch armor.

Anyone I can recognize in that respect I can also usually spot in their peasant gear; they can usually still kill me with their practice swords.
