Title: Crescent Moon Blade Halberd?
Post by: Silfarion on December 21, 2013, 08:14:02 am
I tried making something on blender but since this is my first time making anything on blender, it's more of a gene-spliced abomination mutant freak monstrosity using parts from the fauchard and red tassled spear.

In an attempt to create this

Unfortunately I have absolutely no idea how to texture on blender. It took me long enough to figure out how to import meshes from already existing models so I could resize them and edit their vertexes to look more like an original model than a copy of 2 weapons combined.

Just too bad it remains untextured

Looks better version (http://www.mediafire.com/view/6e0nfebwurrrhlr/crescentbladehalberd.obj)

I also created a double sided version

Double sided version (http://www.mediafire.com/download/1d8yk1d15pxqf1m/greatcrescentbladehalberd.obj)

Possible Stats (4 direction)

Weapon length: 160-165
Weight: 2 - 2.5
Difficulty: 14
Speed rating: 90
Thrust damage: 24-25p
Swing damage: 34c
Slots: 2

Possible Stats (2 direction)

Weapon length: 170
Weight: 2 - 3
Difficulty: 14
Speed rating: 92
Thrust damage: 26-27p
Swing damage: 36c
Slots: 2
Can't use on horseback
Can't sheath

Note that I intended this weapon for 4 direction use, the ji halberd was a cavalry weapon in many cases... Although, not quite as popular as the dagger-axe variant, which I do not know how to make, although it's basically the same thing as a one sided, really long bec-de-corbin.

Very nice! "Gene splicing" is actually a really good technique if you're new.

Well as long as the original creator doesn't say anything against it.

Unfortunately as I am going to lake tahoe tomorrow I will be gone for 2 days

That means I will not be able to bump this thread like the bump scum I am, but I hope that someone will appear while i'm gone and be all "yo i'll texture dat for you"

I mean, if you need instructions, basically all I want is a wood-textured shaft and a metal-textured blade (straight from the texture files, even)

I'll give it a go for you. I'm shoddy at it, but I have the resources to do so. If it's any good I'll edit post here.

The more long, hard, WOODEN shafts in this game the better.

I might try to texture it, first I want to see what Inglorious comes up with.

http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.6/Manual/Textures/Mapping/UV/Unwrapping

Then maybe copy & paste some metal and wood textures of other weapons into your UV map.

HOLY CRAP THANKS

EDIT: I tried UV mapping it and all I got were crazy lines. Smart UV mapping was one way to do it - but the UV mapping started sticking out of the box....

Maybe try some video tutorials, or ask in #blender IRC channel on freenode.net. I can't really provide more help at the moment, sorry.

I am quite interested in this one too. It would be a really good addition.

Note: Notice the triple-head version. Pure badass!

I was thinking of making that one and putting it into its own thread

Unfortunately, I'm not sure what I'd gene-splice to make a ge halberd/dagger-axe halberd

The English Bill has a pretty similar design, so it might have similar stats as well. It might be a little outdated tho, since the ge halberd was used most commonly during the Qin dynasty, and that was from 221-206 AD. That's about 1200 years before cRPG time :P In contrast to the ji (this thread's weapon), which I'm pretty sure is an evolution of the dagger-axe, since the ge is a bronze age weapon, and the ji is iron

And I'm pretty sure the heads for the triple head version are more likely to fall off after a few hits, considering how top-heavy the halberd would be with 3 heads... Unless it's really, really short, of course

Great model. Sadly, the item manager is often off doing other things, and seems to never pay attention to these forums anymore. frankly i think someone else should step in and take up the torch so models like yours

http://forum.melee.org/suggestions-corner/%28item-suggestion%29-european-cavalry-sword/

or black armor (strange since it was zangibu's post)

http://forum.melee.org/suggestions-corner/blackened-armors/

or highlander armor

http://forum.melee.org/suggestions-corner/highlander-armor-re-textured-for-crpg-no-skin-showing/

would eventually get added.

no offense meant to zangibu of course, im sure he has his reasons, but we ought to have a new item manager.

What do you think the stats should be? I think it would be similar to the long hafted blade, long voulge, and fauchard.
