I'm currently 2h. I've always preferred strength over agility but last gen I went 21/21 and liked it, wondering if swapping the extra 3 from strength to agility would be worth it... Would I notice a difference in swing speed and run speed from an extra point in atheltics/wm?
I'm usually wearing about 18-20 effective armor weight... and for weapon I'm using highland claymore... or morningstar on strat.

Mid-high WM wasn't really buffed this patch, just rebalanced. The difference between 7 and 8 is still pretty minor. I love having high athletics. Faster footwork helps you on the offense and the defense. I usually wear lighter armor than you though.
I went for 24/21 with no IF (I am polearm instead of 2H, but I am pure infantry with no shield). 8 Powerstrike with good run and swing speed is all that I was hoping it would be. Only possible at 32 or higher.

I did this. Huge mistake. No IF = 2 hit killed by one handers and anything else that sneezes on you.

I get two-hit wearing monk's robes. With my 50 armor setup, only couches and arbalest shots 2 hit me. :?

21/21 with maxed athletics, power strike, ironflesh, and weapon master is the best level 34 build.

I roll with 56h 43b 24l. Before the patch I was 24/18 8if/ps 6wm/ath.. massive difference in squishyness. I shoulda went 21/21 7all.

8 IF does make a big difference, no doubt. Here's how i rationalize my buld:
24 str and no IF is just a little below 18 str and 6 IF (24 str has 6 less HP) and that's enough for me. I get 2 more power strike than the 18 strength guy, too.
At 34+ I will pick up ranks of IF since I don't really want riding or shield.

Well my full build is 24/21 170 2H 7WM/ATH 8PS 1IF. I'll just be dumping everything into IF onward although that's kind of a long road from 34..

Every point in athletics makes a noticeable difference.. then you get accustomed to it after a day or two. Both are equally good and up to your preference. Based on your listed weapons, 21/21 will probably be better for you, though. The PS helps the high damage. 8ath almost guarantees a speed advantage, while 7ath guarantees you can go head to head against anyone in speed.
