Hi,
I have no idea in which forum I should put this, sorry.
How long does a rename take?
Is it enough just to apply for a rename and wait?
I'd be grateful for any information regarding this.

Rename when retiring is instant iirc.
Name change during the generation is only "allowed" when you gonna change a clan tag or to fix a typo in the name. Just randomly changing prolly won't go through. You can still apply for a name change but that won't necessarily accepted if it doesn't fit the above.

Well, I have a tag from before which I would like to remove. And since my main has the same name, I would like to change the name (after the tag) as well.
So this isn't just plain name > name but TAG_Name > (Different) Name :D

Ok, I found this post while browsing the forum:
Hello tasu.
You cannot change your name freely. You can only change it completely when you retire (Going from level 31 or higher back to level 1 - gaining 1 generation and loompoint(s) ).
With the Name Change funtion you can only add/remove clan tags. So if you are named "tasu" at the moment, you cannot change it to "blowchicken123" with this function. You would have to retire.
All Name Changes are accepted or declined manually by the admins, so there is no way to cheat here.
My problem is a bit different.
I used to play with 1 char, currently my old friend_Zaar.
I got him to lvl 27 and stopped.
I started another char after that and played him all the time. His name is Zaar (Gen 6 atm).
So when I read the post, I see that I can rename only to Zaar. But I have that name on my, now main, character already.
Is it possible I get a completely new name?
I mean, I don't mind both characters named Zaar, but not sure if that's even possible O_o

Well, that wont work.
my old friend_Zaar is an alt.
Zaar is main.
I want my main to be Zaar.
I can already see admin telling me it's either what you said or wait for alt retire :?

add a clantag (just pick a random clan), because a tag like _STF or _archer probably won't be accepted.
