I expected a very brutal and long grind before I was able to acquire the equipment (not even talking heirlooms) and skills to be on a relatively "level" playing field with the average player.  I think in my mind I was making it out to be much harder than it actually was.  Except for my first generation, there really hasn't been much "grind" to the game, I've enjoyed pretty much every minute of it except for maybe the first 200 deaths or so (I think I had like 220ish deaths before I got my first kill, but I was really just trying to make money at the beginning, I knew I was going to get #shrekt at first).  I had played Warband for a long time previously, so wasn't too worried about my skills as much as the equipment.

I came in expecting a multiplayer with persistent stats and items. Found that. Didn't have many other expectations beyond it.

I expected to get my ass kicked for a long time, which happened but I enjoyed it for some reason. I knew I would hate the grind though so thats why I only retired 5 times

I was expecting a balanced battle simulator since native lacked that , a simulator where actual skill matters , not how much better you can abuse something.

Guess I was wrong.

I expected horses would be able to actually trample people.
I told this story before, but I'll tell it again because it actually happened.

I remember getting my first horse -- I was sooo excited.  It was a large, well muscled beast that gave a commanding view of the battlefield.  "Now I will be king of tha battlefield, just like cavalry in real life!"  I mounted up and sprinted towards the first enemy I saw.  The hooves were thundering and my heart was racing.  I had the enemy 2h dead in my sights going at full speed -- and he was just standing there!  "LOL that noob!  I'm going to run his ass over!"  Images of shattered bones and broken bodies flashed before my imagination as I got closer and closer to my prey.  The anticipation was exhilarating!  I thought about trying to hit him with my sword as I approached, but as a new player I figured I should just start with basics and trample his ass back to the stone age.  Here it comes...!!!!

That's when he jumped in the air and swung his 2h at me.  I died in one hit and my horse ran off without me.  Needless to say I was pretty damn disappointed.

After a few more tries with similar results, I decided to speak my mind.

"Cav kind of sucks in this game, doesn't it?" I typed.
"yep" was the reply.

I wanted challenge and to be able to make my own character. Got that and a brutal dose of xenophobia.

I liked the idea of being able to personalize my character, which to some degree is what I got, and I had hoped it would be more balanced than Native.  Yeah, not much luck with that one.

Anyone claiming cRPG is not more balanced than native should go jump off a cliff.

I expected a progressive mod, sort of RPG, where you can customize your character. And that was great.

I expected to be decent, since i played a lot of singleplayer. Then realize there was directional blocking, when i always used automatic blocking.

Still stick to it, but i admit that i started as an archer.

I started in 2010

It was great fun much like a bigger better native. (Everyone was a hybrid and shield skill a must).

I am disappointed in the current evolution because it has no real RPG component that isn't self enforced. When it comes to playing a certain "character" it really is no more RPG than native. I hoped one day cRPG and PW could work together.

Well maybe melee battlegrounds will get its shit sorted.

Because this shitty mod had such a shitty name I at first glance expected some weird gay fantasy grinding bullshit mod. I was always checking out the modding forum and I had seen the board, but cRPG did not sound like an attractive game at all. When I finally found the courage to actually check it out, it seemed damn popular, I found that was indeed some grinding bullshit mod, but it was also ridiculously fun compared to playing Native TDM which I was long bored by, and didn't have much fantasy. Following the classic peasants guide back then I got myself a shield and later a pokey weapon and followed the 'knights' around, aka level 40 tincans. Half expecting that I as well could become one of those. That first month of playing in december 2010 was amazing.

Love how you are throwing around the butthurt card while you are the one being incredibly and consistently butthurt about people 'abusing'.

I was actually really not into the mod when I heard about it the first time. The lack of "gore" was a big no for me too back then.

Guess I was wrong, now I'm stuck in this shit forever.

I started playing with about 0 hours of Warband multiplayer experience under my belt, as my brother was already addicted and forced his addiction upon me.. As a true noob i strove towards being part of the ninja clan and soon picked up an arbelest to very skillfully may i add 1-2 shot even the hardest of my foes. just played it every so often but i became addicted when i joined Byzantium.. I remember not thinking or caring about upkeep as well and after saving money bought all manor of fancy helmets, etc just for my precious money to be wasted away. oh those were the brilliant shitty days.. :D

Mainly I was interested in customising character stats and gear, then actual gameplay... I would have quit long ago(and I have big gaps), but suddenly some new stuff appeared(like new black armour) and launcher with WSE2 and no ladders in battle and other new features... The only other mod I play is Vikingr and damn you cRPG devs for making this mod that big and addictive, because I'm another player who makes Vikingr server more and more empty! :P

btw there are 3 nice Vikingr events in December http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,202.0.html

I was pressured by a native friend to join his c-rpg clan. I soon played DTV a lot and found myself In an awkward relationship with the vergin were I had to fight off all of the horny 12 year olds and dildo tipped arrows.

I expected to hate it and here I am, two years in, still loving hating it.

I didn't really expect anything other than the enjoyment from playing. There were a lot of things I had complaints about when I started (December 2010) although I still enjoyed playing, I figured I'd enjoy the persistent equipment rather than Native's equipment mechanics much more. Thankfully, I chose to drag my feet through the horrendous grind (which was greatly lessened by the January patch) and stick with the mod.

Started playing native multi then checked the servers and noticed everyone was playing a mod called CRPG more than the native servers thought I would give it a go.

I must say I was expecting from the Strategus description a multilayer version of native however found the persistent stats and never went back to native.

I remember being proud of my light leather armor and Byzantium helmet and thought now I look the shit.

That was what I exactly expected from Warband , I thought we were going to lead our own men like lords and move on the calradia map just like in SP.That was like 4-5 years ago. But I was terrorized when I first played it , the game was a medieval version of counter strike :(

Hoping for a mode like that in Bannerlord, would be so fucking awesome to have a champing map for players instead of A.I. Or with a mix of both. Kinda like Strat but like the SP.

I chose cRPG over Native due to it sporting more manual blocking and less of a range-fest compared to the ENL. This hasn't exactly changed but it has become less so. And the Vikingr community was slowly dying.

The historical armaments, close community and especially continued development also attracted me. Felt a bit like WB did in the early beta days.

Yeah, those guys + Gingerpussy with his gun crossbow made the early peasant days a hell
