1.) The first time I played, I climbed up a ladder on siege in my linen tunic with a yellow practice shield + hatchet to get spammed to death by a 2her in a kuyak. I had no idea what was going on the whole time.

2.) It took me 2 weeks to get my first legitimate 1v1 kill in melee as a 21/18 2her (nodachi with the full red samurai armor).

Now that is a friend of mine and not myself, but it rings very true all the same. Horribly frustrating business this game is.

As for myself my first few rounds were in siege, I had a scythe and stones. I recall elindor and red death treating my person with particular violence. I was hooked immediately of course.

Three practice shields and a club, trying to figure out the best way to suck up all the xp and gold my teammates were dropping before I got run over by a horse and instakilled.

So I quit because I was a loser and came back a year later, and everything had changed.

That's not even that bad

My gear in my first gen was quite typical, weaboo armor, shield and short bow :P

It was back then when the Antarian Empire was active and ran around in their shiny tincan Armors and Flamberges. I was playing with my Native buddies and they told me: "youll never become this big" :D

Haha, that's pretty bad :D. I had those 3 shields to be safe from Gnjus and his Mercs... Just to be alive long enough to gain xp and proximity bonus :P

I still remember my first battles in cRPG, that Sea Raider map from the native singelplayer map and a big open field with a river in it. I remember going for mostly STR a hammer and a shortbow like I guess most of us had some 2hander and a shitty bow back then

went to native to practice and got banned on one server for calling the admin a bundle of sticks, the dude was pretty good tho, bet he still plays his name was Lisen(i think) or lesin? anyhow, something like that :D and I raged the chat full cause I couldn't block and he chambered me and I was like "you fucking bundle of sticks cheater you cheat my attack with your own attack"
and thus i returned to c-rpg to humbly ask for help instead of calling everyone cheater.

good fun i had, am still banned there to this day. :D

I don't really get why people think being a newbie is frustrating.
When I started playing, I was so amazed by this mode and by everything I saw around that I didn't care much about how often I die. Watching other guys play was no less entertaining.

It's much more frustrating now, when I fail in easy situations even though I played this for more than a year.  :)

my memories are reading the follow a knight for exp plan. Then getting shot by archers as i leave spawn, in spawn or just outside the blob that gets exp. hardest part of being a peasent was trying to get your dead body into that sexy exp area :D

I recall in the beginning (2009 2010), saving up gold was quite the heartache, had to pickup weapons from the ground due to only having a lower-end weapon in stock, then finally after having fought for ages, staying alive to get as much gold as possible etc, I had enough saved up to buy any two-hand sword in the shop, naturally I thought "Flamberge! It's the most expensive one so it has to be the best!" -- alas, no, a slow and painful weapon back then. Had to use it for ages to save up enough gold for a Sword of Cookies instead (today's Danish sword).

I remember my first day. I greeted everybody when I joined the map and said I was new and they were all like "Oh you're gonna ask for gold aren't you".
At that time I didn't even know what gold was in this game.

After passing glorious peasant levels, I tried to fight as a agi flanking fencer with LS('cause it's seems so elegant and gives +10 to gay e-penis).
In battle - cav, ranged and ninjas raped me
in siege - never feel so useless...

Oh I remember the old days when me and my friends played, talking shit,
when suddenly one guy saw Vex in the not-yet-nerfed black armor and great maul and we were either like "OH SHIT, RUN!" or "MAYBE IF WE GANK HIM WITH 4 GUYS WE CAN WIN"
(ganking with 4 guys failed mostly :P)

Never really played the game long enough to figure out how stats work. So when i came to this mod my first gen was some abomination. My second gen i sold the loom and went transitional crutch with german greatsword when it was op. Then i became a god amd continue to destroy NA1 to this day

I remember i used the Sword of Cookies or Sword of Tears.  :|

But armour wise...well um that was more embarrassing. I had nomadic body armour, leather boots and gloves and no helmet. I got one shotted by everything.

I then grew wise and still used one of the above mentioned swords with Sugarloaf Helm, Heraldic Transtional - (can't remember the boots or gauntlets) - with the deadly sniper crossbow, but i still sucked :P

The longest build I played as a newb was lancer cav, I remember sucking pretty hard at it, but I couldn't block so it was the only option. I learned some basic blocking with my short spear that I used on foot and was so fucking happy when I finally got dat dere cataphract horse :D
I didn't repair my equipment and was playing with -2 gear at all time

I'm proud of not using bow until STF was introduced and even then played an archer no more than 1 hour :P

Oww I remember my first moment in cRPG, back in 2010.
I was playing with old native friends, Nyu and all those and we were on DTV.
First wave: Peasants. They all died before I was able to join the fight with 0 Ath. I raged.
Second wave: Bandits. I died at the first enemiecontact because I only got a knife, which was a weapon you couldn't block with. I raged, quitted and didn't come back for half a year.

After that half year, I decided to come back and made a char with all skills and atributes filled and wpf in every profession. I sucked ass but I didn't gave up like last time and here I am, after 2 years.  :P

I remember my first build quite fondly... 18-17 since I didn't know how to convert points... and I WAS aiming for an agility-based build... then hit level 30 and didn't get any more attribute points. Since I figured I would never play long enough to get to level 31 (took me almost a year to get to 30) I retired at level 30 and then used the brand new skip the fun feature to "respec" at level 30. One of the biggest mistakes I have made in my time here. One to two years later I ended up deleting my main since you couldn't change which character was your strat hero. However, I had fun rolling around with the build of a champion... 12-27 longsword spammer. :P

I might have been effective, had I been any good at blocking. As a result I ran around in the best gear that someone with only 12 strength could use at the time: pronoia helmet, cuir bouilli, lamellar gauntlets, and rus cav boots (because boot swagger > boot stats). Still sucked even with all that armor, so I barely played for the next year and a half. Still had some great fun with my pals running around in siege as nothing more than cannon fodder, or panicking when the village was under assault by mere peasants in DTV. Hiding on top of a treehouse was never so terrifying... every so often a stray crossbow bolt might whiz past your unsuspecting face.

As you say...but I did worst..... last year..... I clicked on RESPEC instead of RETIRE..... my lvl 34 hero were fucked.... I lost something like 72 millions XP =)
