Title: The height of the black American work force
Post by: CrazyCracka420 on November 14, 2013, 08:21:04 pm
Quote from: Smoothrich (from IRC)
The height of the black race was during slavery. It was the only time in recorded history when most American blacks worked. It is the pinnacle of the black race because they were actually contributing something to society.

What have they done with their freedom? They spit us in the eye by giving up their freedom to buy drugs or shoes. We died for their freedom so that they could break into our houses, steal, kill us and then get thrown in jail.

What have blacks done with their freedom? A whole lot of nothing. We are still giving them handouts. We have all of the responsibilites of a slave owner (feeding them, clothing them...ect) but none of the benefits like labor.

Whites are currently the slaves. We have to work overtime because the government takes so much of our money and gives it yp black people. I have a old pair of shoes but I have to pay for Tyrone to have Jordans. My taxes provide him with foodstamps. He sells the foodstamps and uses the money to buy better shoes than I have, plus drugs and such.

Thoughts?

It's an observation from very far away. It leaves out a lot of important details. It is not wrong per se, but it also doesn't help in the slightest.

Statement implies that slavery isn't obviously the most efficient way for anyone to contribute to their society.

Well, most of the population are slaves anyways, without realizing it. The slavemasters tell the slaves that they are free, they don't have to work for them anymore. But they're also getting kicked out: no more free food and housing. So if the slaves want to survive, they'll have to keep working. But that's alright, they're not slaves anymore. They work for Pay. The slavemasters give them pretty rocks that they can use to buy food and housing.

What generations of slavery and squalor can do to people picked right out of a hunter-gatherer economy and put in a socio-economic prison and culture of violence, a highly recommended if uneasy watch:

Tell me if you understand a word they are saying.

Its less to do with ethnicity and more to do with generations of poverty, bad education, poor role models, short cuts to money (drugs etc), easy access to guns, the prison system and a culture that glorifies the accumulation of wealth, violence and disrespect. Poverty is the main thing that leads people into that type of lifestyle though I believe, when they see that culture all around them

This could happen to any race in similar circumstances, look at inner cities in places like Mexico. Easy access to things like guns, drugs, low prospects for young people and you get the same problems anywhere

Yes, don't think I'm suggesting otherwise.

Disagree. Some blacks have made valuable contributions to the world of science.

There's been many similar social experiments, but in the 'Waiting for Superman' documentary they remove some young black males from the projects - where more fail high school than graduate - and put them instead in a completely different milieau on a special boarding school, all of them earning their college diplomas with honors.

We have generations of people who were born into poverty, with sub-standard education and infrastructure.  Without proper representation in government.  It's a cycle that repeats itself.  We're all animals at the end of the day who will do whatever is necessary to survive and protect our family.  When the allure of making 10 times the amount of money you can anywhere else by selling drugs (without proper education, which costs money, and requires a stable home life with proper support to get that education), then it's really no surprise when people roll the dice and take that risk.

This isn't even getting into the whole prison industrial complex we have in this country (http://hiphopandpolitics.com/2013/04/24/jailhouse-roc-the-facts-about-hip-hop-and-prison-for-profit/).  Even before for-profit prisons were a big thing (corporations rule and control American culture and politics if you were not aware), we had a prison industrial complex.   There are so many jobs and companies that make money from the complex.   We imprison people for minor drug use, sometimes for life (3 strikes laws in some states which can throw people in prison for life for marijuana possession).

There's so many different factors that contribute to people in poverty resorting to desperate measures to survive (or what they perceive as their only way to survive).  Most of the people on government assistance are white by the way, and a disproportionate amount of black and latino's are in prison compared to the population (even though they don't commit more crimes proportionally).

And then you have retards spouting out about welfare.  Well by far most of our welfare goes to corporations (both directly in subsidies, but also indirectly in tax breaks and tax loopholes, and things like NAFTA/CAFTA which allow them to bypass tariffs and further increase their profits at the direct expense of our citizens).  We also give billions away every year to countries like Pakistan and Israel who literally have terrorists and war mongering extremists in their government and law enforcement agencies.  Money that could be better spent on our own citizens.  I certainly don't like my tax money going towards corporations or other countries.  States literally subsidize 100's of millions of dollars for sports stadiums.  We literally pay for buildings of some of the most profitable companies in the country.  There's no reason they can't pay for their own places of work.   And then we spend a ridiculous amount of money on our military (but still have problems providing proper protection [say that 3 times fast] to our ground troops personal equipment, and transports).

We have so many problems in this country, and to blame them on the lowest common denominators who have no ability to shape or control the larger effects on them (aka government) is ridiculous.  The main problem in this country is our government, and the corporations that run it.

As Ben Franklin said "When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic."  He's easily my favorite person (along with George Carlin) to pull quotes from.  The guy just understood human nature.  My 2nd favorite quote (which is very appropriate for current times in America over the past 15 years, but off topic here) is: "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty."

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty."

I've heard It similar: He who votes to give up some liberty for a little security, deserves neither and gets none.

Probably for more apt nowadays than in the late 1700s.
The one about money, though, that's always been a kicker. That's why the Framers wanted the people to vote who owned land. If you owned land, then you had a vested interest in the state. Those without land, though, were not considered important.(then changed to all males, and then changed to everybody.)

If anything, the land rule was nice, but the US, and most Republics need a similar, more modern version. If you don't have a vested interest in your: A) Community B) State C) Family etc, you shouldn't vote. But, the way we have things now works because there isn't a way to determine vested interest without being exclusive. It will, at some point happen though, but will it be a change to Corporate Power, Military power, or even Oligarchy? Who knows, we might even be there already!
