Light Armor -> Becouse I want to stay mobile with a strength built.
Becouse I am dedicated shielder - and sometimes want to chop twohanded -> Langes Messer
Iron Axe -> Becouse I need to crush other shielders shield now and then, and its better in gangbang or confined spaces (siege).

Wearing light armor gives me an edge over the slower players. Using a spear and shield gives me a second edge over players who use shorter weapons. (Pretty much anyone that is not using a long spear, or pike in my case) I can better support my teammates, and I do not have to worry about armor due to my weapon  doing pierce damage.

I can say my choices make my character very effective, so I add some viking-like armor, a seax(knife), and a hatchet, and I am good to go.

As mode changes, I changes my tool belt a bit and ditched the heraldic because I never used it; but yeah looks has always been the only reason why I picked a lot of equipment (also see my shield choice going to the heavy round shield and the round steel buckler)

Used a steel pick for at least a year and a half, then I happened to come across a +3 liuyedao in a strat battle. So smooth, so nice, I fell in love and sold that pick, everyone was using it anyways.
I wanted to fit in more with my clan and switch from my grey sarranid guard and wear something more green, so I started to use a green tunic over mail. Ironically, most people in the clan wear grey body armours now.

Then the armoury came out. Luckily, I found a +3 green tunic over mail, but there was a +3 armet and I never had so many +3s before. I begrudgingly switched my milanese sallet for an armet. I mean, it looks good on the site: visitors can't see pics , please register or login
. Also found +3 mail boots to replace my +0 mail boots.

Boy was I wrong. It looked kind of derpy, but it grew on me. I now use it to give opponents a false sense of security. Mittens holding such a sleek sword is also funny, everything feels soft and fuzzy.

I like good head armour to avoid most 1hits since everything gets damage bonus to the head. Other armours can be medium, doesn't matter much.

Only utter derps have a false sense of security when you show up San.

The name implies a certain aptitude for taking a beating hence I do like to taketh the most utterly over board heavy armour I can.

I do miss my:

+3 GPwB
+3 HG
+3 Weimar
+3 Cased grieves
+3 Catfucker
+3 Brown Lion Heater Shield
+3 Nordic Champion's Sword

Oh the fun we used to have frolicking about in the fields, trampling the arse out ever fool with out a spear. Oh and siege, how lovely it was to go flying over the small siege towers and go skitting along the walls launching people to their deaths.

But now I only have 3 +3s and I accidently borked a trade and lost the NCS thinking I was going to pick up a GPwB. Instead I wound up with a Rus Bow which is now apparently worse than aids.

Gothic plate armor w/bevor (just made it lordly tonight, awww yeah) with the right Sallet, the one without coif, and matching greaves/gauntlets.

Oh and the Long Espada, that thing's a beauty.

You look like a conquistador. Works nice with, Side Sword, LE, E, ES and the plain old Scimitar.

Armor:
    - Black lamellar because it's closest to ninja theme. White lamellar on winter maps (snow camo, with either pilgrim hood or white khergit lady hat). Pilgrim robe if I want to play with disguise.
    - Leather or lamellar gloves
    - Usually using lady khergit hat because I'm blue hood rank
    - Khergit boots because they match lamellar nicely

Weapons:
    - Katana (main), nodachi, heavy bastars sword (with disguise), bamboo spear, red tassel spear

and like eyebeat said: having a personal style > looks > everything else

armor is mainly to be recognized, find a combination that doesn't get used too much and that looks good. The only thing that matters else is if you want light, medium or heavy-plate armor.

I use my battlefork. Why?
Because it looks badass; and guess what?? It is badass, that fork is the best 2d polearm I've ever had the pleasure of using.
The rest of my armour I use because it's all black  :P
