Title: Commodore Axephante feasts in Valhalla now

Some say there is no real way to quit cRPG. The warrior-poet, Commodore_Axephante, NAKED_FANATIC, is no longer with us -- for real. His wife contacted me to inform that his cancer got the best of him in the end. I'm making this post here at her request to inform any friends or clan-mates he had who still play this game. I figured this would be a good opportunity to share again some of the amazing things he did during the very short time he played this mod.
1. His barbarian-muscle character mesh replacer. If you want your character to bare his barbarian breast, but are ashamed of looking like a puny-man -- check this out. It looks pretty awesome! You can be a bad-ass naked fanatic, too.
2. He was a great writer. Last spring when I "quit" crpg I held a poetry contest to give away all my looms to the winner. His poem was easily the best -- inspired by the upcoming Melee: Battlegrounds. I'm including it here for all to read. It's a grim tale, but well composed and strangely foreboding:
The Crows

Silence, then Echoing past the reach of what had only just been raging Battle-cries harrowing the setting of the sun While sailcloth bellowed And thatched roofs burned; A din for the heavens Calling those black birds in from the fields From the dells beyond the river To watch, men slaying and slain And wait Cawing and crooning For the feast that would follow.
Thirty dead lay strewn beneath the dark sky, there Two banners between them, their bodies still warm.
Bodies wracked with heavy taxes And slow repose alike Cloven helmets and shattered shafts Trophies for the earth Once flesh had faded. Once the murder was fed.

His wife said that during the times he could be at his computer, this mod and the community brought him great joy. Even though he stopped playing a few months ago, we are still one bad-ass fewer today. This is a good time to realize just how good we have it here, and appreciate the fun it brings to us, too.

Although he refused to accept that this illness was going to take him, we did talk about death and what he would like done with his remains. He requested to be cremated and to have his best friends and immediate family members each take a trip to somewhere meaningful and scatter a bit of him there. His family and I set up a fund for people to donate to for travel costs for his friends who are all broke and in their 20s. Sad to see him go, especially at such a young age. Didn't realize he was sick, or that he hasn't posted since March. Seems like it was just a month or two ago he was active on the forums...

Wow, that is rough, I remember him posting something about 'being in the last months of his life'. Seemed like a cool and positive guy, which is commendable in his situation.

While he was a member of our clan for a short bit before he decided to quit CRPG, he did leave a mark. Thanks for the fun times Reidi the unfettered (as we knew him), you will be remember among the Ravens forever.

Jezus, I had no idea.. It's hard to believe how heavy the passing of somebody I never met IRL can sadden me. He was a great guy and I hope he left this life in peace. Thanks for letting us know.

I always read his posts thoroughly as he always seemed to have something good to say. His disappearance was noticeable previously but all the more so now.
There isn't really much I can say in a situation like this, but goodbye, it's evident that you'll be missed.

This is a guy who clearly showed great interest in norse mythology and the such. I'm sure he'd enjoy the sick humor buried (pun intended) within my post. This should be less of an, "Oh boo hoo, my friend died" thread, and more of a, "Drink mead and play cRPG in his honor" thread. Just leave it to the chickenhearted europeans to turn this into a shiva house.

I cared about him. He was really into contributing to the CRPG community. I can understand his leaving though; if I knew that I didn't have much time left I doubt I would sink it into an online game. His enthusiasm and good cheer will be missed.

Last I checked he stated that he left due to cmp being a jerk on the forums.

One could argue 80 years isn't that long anyway, and yet we are all here, 'wasting' our time playing a video game. Never too sure if I or anyone would really change up my life if I had just a few years/months to live. In the end you are choosing to spend time on video games even though you have so much other options, would a shorter life prospect really change that choice?

I think one of the reasons he left was that he got angry when third party additions were ruled out from cRPG. Maybe it wasn't directly this, but I guess in his situation, he realized how silly it is to get angry about a video game.

I still smile each and every-time I see a courser pass me by. The naked axe man was a treasure to our community, I wish we had a little more time together because he was really fun to play with and very talented.

CMP the Unpleasant spoke unpleasantly with him about their desire to force 3rd party textures to be reviewed before one could play c-rpg, something that became completely forgotten about once the Dev's moved onto their new game.

Never saw him in game, but I saw his forum posts, they were great. Maybe one day in the near future we will find a cure for cancer and stop this bullshit. He was a good man that died to a terrible thing. One of my best friends had cancer when he was young and he has told me some horrible stories of being in the hospital for days. May the barbarian's soul rest.

The threat of that change clearly upset him. He will be missed, one of the few who contribute and ask for nothing in return.

This really bums me out. I -still- have his naked mesh pack downloaded and used on my game daily.
I made this a while back when he released the mesh to help promote it, sad to see/hear of his passing. Cancer is a bitch, rest well Naked Fanatic, rest well.
Fuck cancer, seriously. That's nothing to joke about like that, basically everyone of us will in some way be affected by it, show some respect, or at the very least basic humanity. If you've tried losing a close family member (or friend) to cancer, while being with them in their final days, you would never make jokes.
Enjoy the 100% mutes, don't expect them to disappear any time soon.

Wow, I didn't know this guy, but reading this thread truly makes me sad and I want to shed a manly tear. It's always weird when you read a thread like this on a board for a mod and reminds us that it's real humans behind every character in cRPG.

I don't think so, a few days before he left he became an in-game admin and then left very suddenly. This was back mid-march so he must have taken a turn for the worse if he's gone now 6 months later. I always assumed we'd hear back from him so it's tough to hear he didn't make it.
A very cool guy who was interesting and fun, my condolences to his family.

I hoped for the best and waited patiently on the Raven internal forums to hear from him again, actually asked about him a few weeks ago. He was a pure joy to have around, and easily the nicest member of our community to this day. Reidi, may Valhalla grant you all your wishes. If any of us roleplaying viking nerds deserve an eternal happiness, you deserve the splendor without a doubt in my mind.
Ravens, Turtler, and community alike: I say we all chip in to send a present to his wife, and show that even a gaming community as corrupted as ours can come together and show respect for one of its own.
Any ideas for what we could gift her?

I was in siege some time ago while he was playing, and I, being a 32 body armor crutch, was impressed by his nude playstyle. Then he asked me if my name was -INSERT REAL NAME HERE- and I panicked and left the server. Now I'll never know how dude guessed/knew.

Hah the pleasure of speaking with the dude many times before he jumped ship to Ravens from my clan (who the fuck could blame him, he needed people that were considerably less gay). I would have loved to hang out with the motherfucker in real life. Damn near the nicest guy I ever met; put out a really genuine positive vibe even over text. If there's a plane of existence better than this one that one can gain access to through good works and wisdom, he's kicking ass in that place right now.

Better than posting in a thread about it would be to do something to ensure people stop dying. Quite a few non-profit organizations you can donate to. And/or familiarize yourself with cryonics so you know to recommend it to people.

If there is an afterlife, I hope he is well over there. We all cross the river at some point, and it is immensely saddening to see someone depart so prematurely.
