Title: Batman Arkham Origins
Post by: Molly on October 24, 2013, 11:30:51 pm
Just got the key from my keyseller and now I am pre-loading on Steam like a boss... :D

This game will unlock in approximately 2 hours

As long as it's just as good as Arkham City, maybe even as good as Arkham Asylum (the best one yet), I am a happy happy Batman :D

I liked the first two a lot, but I'm waiting to hear if this new dev can manage an equally good game before I shell out.

Asylum was awesome, City a bit less, just hope the trend doesn't continue.

Keep us posted Molleh

Only played a little but I can say 2 things and those are pretty important I guess:

1. It has a nice dark and gritty atmosphere. Darker than before. I've only encountered Killer Croc yet but that was already a nicely done fight.
2. The gameplay is as fluid as before although it seems to be a tad more difficult cuz they added knifes and armoured enemies right from the start. It's like starting in the middle of Arkham City game enemy wise which makes sense since you got most tools already unlocked.

is it a free roam game or not??

It's the same as Arkham City but bigger and which also was a free roaming game already.
You don't have to follow strictly the main game plot but can just fly around, prevent crimes which is new, have random encounters with thugs or do those collectibles.

As I said, I am not too far in yet but it is very similar to Arkham City. It feels bigger already tho.

Well I must say i kinda liked Asylum for it's semi-linearity, crysis on a small island, you have to deal with it, I felt involved the whole time, saving the whole city on the other hand is a big task and all the free roaming kinda waters down the story and the immersion for me. Will still play this game for sure, Holiday sale is approaching

Just beat my first assassin in a proper boss fight! :D

It was a mixture of the standard fighting mechanics, cinematics, QTE and timing changes... was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed playing and watching it. A proper movie boss fight

Now, have another screen...

So is it good? I liked Asylum a lot, couldn't play more than 20 minutes of City.

Well, it is like Arkham City just with a bigger map and more random encounters in the streets.
So, probably not for you, I guess  :?

The  voice is Batman alright. Didn't even really notice.
And this Batman is even a bit darker than in the games before. More violent in the cutscenes... Less in what is says but in what he does.
I am still pretty early in the game tho.

He is more brutal to the thugs than the police, but this is 2 years into him being Batman, so he has no friends in the city, half of the people aren't even hure he's real so yeah he's younger and more brutal, that's what they were going for.

Did you fast travel yet and how is the Batcave, anything more to do there gameplay wise or just eyecandy for the cutscenes?

Yea, he is less "painful" to the police he encounters. You can actually see that the fighting moves are less "damaging". Beating up those SWAT dudes is fun :)

You have to do fast travel to get to the Batcave. Don't think there is any other way but as far as I can tell that is the only "must-do" fast travel. The Batcave has the training ground, the Batcomputer and I think a working bench. Oww, and Alfred ofc. So, mostly eye candy but not merely that...

It's very much similar to Arkham City but they said that all along iirc...

So how is this? Better than City? I played the original but not City, so should I play Origins or?

Yep, it is.

Few new gadgets but overall it's AC+...

I didn't play Asylum but I really wanted to like City except for the fact that GFWL decided I wasn't good enough for it's cloud and I played the first 20 minutes about five times before it felt I was privileged enough to have a save file. Then GFWL shut down and I lost that progress anyway.

I'm not sure if I'll give this one a swing or not, I found the gang melee combat to be a bit bland after watching batman flail around knocking in his 50th head from some rhythmic button pressing. It also made me suffer a bit from that open-world "urgency" where batman is more or less on a time constraint but the game wants to shove endless trophies and bat-tests down my throat while Bane wants me to run some errands for him.

You should replay City. It has an awesome ending.
