Title: What would Raven Mercs like to see (gear choices)
Post by: HungryNBroke on October 24, 2013, 08:50:43 pm
I hope that everyone had a good time and thank you all for your cooperation.

I would really value your opinion on the gear that was provided, since we are nothing without our awesome mercs!
After people have had time to post their suggestions I will put up a poll.

When answering these please keep in mind that we are a viking RP clan, so our gear choices need to fit into this theme.
Here is a list of our gear restrictions as they stand at the moment:

Just a quick mention that items shown in green are the "NH/Raven Veteran's preferred choices" and also we do equip our armies with crossbows. It is the single 'rule break' that we currently allow in strat. Mostly because we do not feel like excluding crossbow players from all our battles.

I think you should have more -3 Peasant Armor, -3 Sticks, and no ranged

You should just get rid of all that plate, its overrated.

I think you need sticks and rondel daggers.

:P Great Siege hope to see you in a fight again soon ;)

Stop being shitty mercs and strafing left and right in front of your throwers for no reason.  I must have headshotted 4 teamates with Throwing Lances.

I loved the selection of throwing weapons, they really made that siege damn fun for throwers. Please keep that up for future battles!

Stop being a shitty thrower and learn to jump throw

I am going to speak about what I like to see for my class in an army first. My favorite armor for strat as ranged has to be mail shirt with fur combined with mail mittens. It packs the most body armor under 10 weight (anything over 10 begins to mess with my accuracy as a xbow). The set allows me to survive at least one shot to the body (where most ranged hits occur) from any ranged target, including enemy arbalests. I avoid foot armor because no one aims for the feet and it only slows me down. Hence, I believe mail shirt with fur + mail mittens to be the best ranged armor in strat. Nordic short war sword is undeniably the best 0 slot 1her seeing as it is extremely fast for its length and has a decent stab.

I would recommend the Elite Cavalry shield over the Heavy round because I have been shooting through the latter lately with my crossbow (even MW Heavy Round Shields). Though it is only under a certain set of circumstances that it can occur (shield user running at me and me aiming for the weakest part of the shield), it is a hazard to consider.

Thanks for the input, we are rethinking our light/medium armor selections for the Raven armies, so this helps. We do include Elite Cavalry shields in our armies as well as Heavy rounds, just usually not in as great of numbers. We love the heavy round it is the quintessential NH/Raven shield and I do not know if we could ever really veer away from it completely.

But the Scottish is far superior to the nordic short war for being a lil spammy wep... and the broad short sword is the best 0 slot. Nordic short war sword sucks!

It's time you guys man up and use Huscarls. You can use throw daggers for 0 slot throwing.

I personally think the Huscarl is ugly looking but it does have its uses, I think we have 1 guy in Raven who still uses it alot (hes a dirty non-shielder hybrid). Not a chance in hell of us actually encouraging its usage though, we are way to fond of throwing things at people trying to kill us.

I would like to see you guys show at least some amount of competency. First time I merc'd for you guys and it was just like "welp let's just spawn in and play music over TS and treat this like it's NA1 while we get absolutely rolled." And then you had people complaining about how they should take out spawn camping at the end of the match? LOL for the amount of battles you guys have been apart of it felt like it was the first match you've ever had.

Have no less than 200 throwing weapons per battle.  Jarids and Throwing Lances are the most preferred, but HTA will work in a pinch.

Peasant Armor: Rawhide Coat or Pelt Coat, Woolen Cap or Leather Cap.
Light Armor: Ragged Outfit, Padded Cloth, or Leather Jerkin
Medium Armor: Brynja or Mail Shirt
Heavy Armor: Banded Armor or Heavy Gotland Armor

Other Helmets: Gjermundbu Helmet, any of the Nordic stuff.
Gloves: Mail Gauntlets work well for all tiers.
Boots: Ankle Boots, Leather Boots/Rus Cavalry (a lot of those are around already though), Rus Splinted Greaves

Shields: Round Cavalry Shield/Plain Round Shield (2 skill), Round Shield (3 Skill?), Elite Cavalry Shield (4 skill), Huscarl Shield (5 skill)

Too lazy for weapons.

Apologies, man. For the last few days its been 3-4 battles per day and we've performed poorly. Watching folks continuously run forward and die after being asked to hold back, watching the people that do listen fight badly with teammates (massive teamwounding, standing directly behind polearms/2h as a shielder etc etc) had broke our leaders' (and most mercs) morale. Music was put on once we perceived the battle was unwinnable, and perhaps that was a mistake.

I'll try my best to have us perform more competently. It'll be tough, but it ain't impossible.

Don't worry, I'm going to rehabilitate the CC and teach them the GOBBLIN METHOD TO BEING GOOD.

Oh, and start bringing +3 long mauls to every fight so I can have top KDR, kills, and score every match.

We will always have long mauls

1 slot shields and lances or great lances.  Heavy lances wouldn't be terrible either.  Light lances are just too short and don't allow you to go up against enemy cavalry very easily (when they have a heavy or great lance).  Also 1 slot shields are important for cav.

We have an army equipped with a few heavy lances at the moment. :D

I am going to start adding lances to every army.
