Not sure about free Civ V but few weeks ago there was 2K discount where you could get Mafia II key for free if you buy any game listed (cheapest was 0.75$). Keys were limited, but it's possible that someone got a lot of those keys and is giving them away. But that's pretty far fetched because they still cost money.

I value my steam account too much to try this.

Its just a promotion by GMG, if you don't trust them i can't imagine why.

Actually scratch what I said above, this has something to do with Joystick GotY Awards. Just vote and claim your game with your GMG account.

Hell, I'd vote if I could, but there's some internal error going on at the moment so you can't vote.

Sad.

Also, am I right that Civ is the one worth grabbing here?

Archers shooting down fighter jets, game of the year, every year

Edit: Black cops II in "best storytelling" category, lmao

I've spent 1000s of hours playing Civ V (a lot of them when I was dead in battle in CRPG).  One of the best games ever (IMO).  Not a huge fan of how hard they've made zerging cities early in a the game with the Gods & Kings DLC, but I gotta say that every major update has been an improvement.

I enjoyed the original Mafia game, can't believe I didn't at least pirate Mafia 2...although the character looks really familiar...maybe I did play it  :x  After looking at reviews it appears I did play it...but I think I'm going to give it another run through

Has anyone confirmed if this is legit or not?

Well the greenmangaming page is the real one, that's for sure, so it looks legit. Haven't been able to test because the rewards page is not working.

It's legit. But I still can't finish voting process (server overload) and number of keys is limited so...

They probably killed their server because the keys ran out

i got to the youtubers and refused to vote for the yogscast(i know who they are, i just think there are better youtubers out there, and when this is all i have to chose from, i dont think its fair to literally give an award to someone) and then realized i had no idea who the fuck the rest were, what fuck chose these people? ive literally never heard of any of them, not to mention where the fuck are people like oh idk, Seananners, CaptSparkles, Frankieonpc, totalbiscuit, Uberhaxornova, Pewdiepie(i dont really like the guy, but he is popular), the list goes on.  Yet they chose Francis, who the fuck is Francis?

oh to finish my rant, once i attempted to submit the votes, everything i voted for disappeared, and then random other accounts kept popping up as if i was signed on.

Yogscast are quite known casters. They originate from my vanilla WoW server actually (The Venture Co.), the guild was called YOGS - Ye Olde Goone Squade. Going to guess it has something to do with SA since it was a bunch of trolls :P

In the world of PC gaming and for someone fluent in english, not knowing either Frankie or TotalBiscuit is a little sad.

I'm familiar with both, wish I wasn't. Don't like popular geek or gaming culture at all. For me it was always about enjoying great video games. This media coverage gaming gets these days with tv shows, youtube channels, gamefairs and stuff like that gets on my nerves.

But I guess it's just me. Gaming is something intimate to me, not social activity.

I don't really understand your point. Video games get extremely small media coverage with quality content. It's only in subculturish youtube channels and the odd pc gaming web magazine that you can find worthy reviews these days.

My point is, I'll rather play games myself than watch shows about games or follow tournaments with press coverage or watch other people streaming their gameplay. I only watch gameplay when I'm not familiar with a game and that's mostly to see how it looks, game mechanics is something I prefer to discover on my own.

Following development is another thing and I enjoy that. But that's because development is one part of gaming industry and playing games is the other. Both are very intimate in my case and I prefer direct contact with developer rather than reporter interviewing them for a show. Stuff like dev logs is what I like. Same goes for gaming experience. It's fine if I'm discussing some game with you, when we go into details and talk about stuff we know from experience. Watching totalbiscuit and angryjoe streaming their game session isn't appealing to me.

What I really want to say is that I have enough love for gaming and more than enough experience to waste my time watching people who are very much like me. Especially gamers whose fame has anything to do with World of WarCraft. Actually, it's not gaming. I don't like media and marketing in general. For me, that's completely unnecessary if you're curious person. You don't need someone else to tell you what you like, try it yourself first.

Being part of something is cool in my book (for example going to Quakecon and being part of LAN party), watching other people being part of something on youtube/twitch/whatever isn't something I like (for example watching recording from recent LoL World Tournament is Staples Center). People (gamers are people too) should focus on themselves and forget about other people who make a living by exposing their lives for everyone to see (aka celebrities).

Well to be honest I seem to share your views, because I don't really watch gameplay footage just for the sake of watching it. Usually I'm interested in what they say about a game before I buy it because from my experience I have roughly the same expectations. Hence why I also read PC Gamer or Otaku from time to time, when they don't transform into Skyrim Gamer or Odragonkuborn like they used to do every other month of 2012 anyway.

Because it's even cheaper than cheap Russian keys xD But, I(& 90% of Russians) will go to hell cause piracy is almost the same as stealing.
Title: Re: Mafia 2 or Civ V free.

It's not the same...

I used to pirate games when I was younger but ever since Steam made it possible for me to get games for portion of full price few months after release, I embraced it fully and stopped downloading pirate games. Service they offer me is also the reason why I buy Steam games.

But you shouldn't feel bad about pirating (mostly american) games. Former community I was part of was fully NA community and they didn't care about pirating japanese anime or manga. That's piracy too but as it's foreign it's fine in their book

People download music or TV shows and don't break a sweat, but when it comes to video games or Microsoft operating system all the sudden it's a awful bad thing to do. It's the same, but MS and game publishers have implanted that idea in the media and basically brainwashed half of the internet.

It's saying I didn't vote after I click the confirmation link in the mail gmg sent me :/ (but I did vote)

Looks like you haven’t voted yet.

Thank you for your interest, however, in order to take advantage of this free game offer you need to go and vote for your favourite games in the Golden Joystick 2013 Awards.  Once you’ve done this, then you’ll be able to redeem, and activate, your free game (please allow a minimum of 24 hours from when you register your votes).

Don’t worry though, your name is on the list!

Anyone else get that? Is it here that I actually have to wait ~24h and then try the GMG page again?

That's one of few things I dislike about chadz & co. They actually allow this kind of behavior (insulting people) and even seem to like it/encourage it. I'm aware that's almost "normal" thing in most gaming communities and forums like Dota, WoW, Diablo, CoD, Steam etc. But that's not case in communities I'm part of and on forums I visit. Star Citizen, SpaceEngine, Outtera, Limit Theory forums are insult free and that kind of behavior is not allowed.

After being absent for few months, I almost forgot about people like Oberyn. New players who register on this forum aren't prepared to be insulted easily and expect punishment for that. When they see that person who insulted them don't even get a single warning, they start doing that themselves and that's why this community became so poisonous over time..

Would you care if some pedestrian said "asshole" to you in the street ?
Title: Re: Mafia 2 or Civ V free.
Post by: Leshma on October 21, 2013, 12:12:36 am
That's not the same. We have made a choice to be part of this community and therefore should stick to some rules and be more respectful to each other. When I'm on the street it's because I'm going somewhere. Couldn't care less about people around me, especially if it's a huge crowd. Unless they try to attack me physically.

Actually, what stops me from returning the favor is the law because I don't like to insult people. When someone cross the line with words I don't return the same favor. Prefer either to stay silent and ignore the fool or show him what I think using physical interaction. But since that's forbidden in modern society, I mostly ignore idiots who have no manners.

Now I have to admit I don't really care about your answer. I imagine a little less gratuitious insulting would make us appear more friendly to "outsiders", but that's part of the "identity" of meleedating.

Well that's your opinion. I think this forum serves different purpose, I spend some time on it when I'm bored of other forums or during the rounds. Identity you're talking about, doesn't matter to me at all because it's negative. If it was something positive, then I would embrace it as something of value.

I'm so bad at driving. I had to just stop repairing my car and steal a new one for each mission instead because the garage bill was eating into my profits so much.

No, then it's just a fact.

Not pointing out an obvious truth is frequently the very essence of good manners.

I'm having an annoying bug though, there's a mission objective stuck on my map that isn't linked to any mission and is impossible to get rid of. Keeps fucking me up by giving me directions to the wrong place.

Maybe you set up a marker on the map and forgot to remove it ? This is really stupid so I don't think that's your problem.

This is where I'd normally suggest you'd gone soft in the head, but in your case it's pretty clear you never had much going on up there in the first place.

Like I said, it doesn't do shit, dickhead.

Nah, as I said, it's an objective marker. For an objective that doesn't exist and is therefore impossible to fulfill. Bugged.

The marketing going on around this giveaway isn't even remotely subtle. A few days before the free keys you could buy Mafia 2 at 50% and now after the free keys you can buys the DLCs at 50%.
