Title: Just one question
Post by: DonNicko on October 06, 2013, 02:13:18 pm
Can daggers swing make any damage to millanese plate?

The answer is yes as far as I observed although the damage is minimal.

However, the main issue at this point is that a dagger is able to hit and stagger heavy and medium armor users both with swings and thrusts.

I agree. Especially the most OP Rondel Dagger fucks a platearmor, in reality, that wouldn't do any problematic damage. Nerf Daggers!

In reality, cut weapons would barely deal any damage to the knight who is wearing a milanese plate.

You all forget that daggers like rondel are made to stab through holes in plate armors.

Just make it ~7k gold and that's all imo. It doesn't have more performance than most of those 1h weapons.

Yes, daggers were using IRL to kill people in plate armor all the time.  Usually they would be wounded or knocked down by conventional weapons, and then a dagger was drawn to finish them off.

As some said, daggers were used to kill people in plate.  Swords used in a cutting motion were almost always non-effective unless you got lucky and hit the exact right location where armor was coming together.

Arrows also didn't do much to plate either.

But you're playing a video game.  If people could walk around in plate and be completely invulnerable to sword cuts and arrow damage, it would be unrealistic.  Because there would be no possible way to account for the lucky/skilled strikes that did  hit a vulnerable chink in the armor or where the armor pieces connect.  We'd also be able to brace pikes, and horses would knock out or break bones if they ran into people (and when the horse died, it's body flying through the air would still crush you).  Also horses likely wouldn't run into a wall, and they would be able to strafe, they wouldn't have the turning radius of a Cadillac.

By the way, the topic is dagger swings not dagger stabs.

Actually, the topic is whatever is being discussed by the majority.

It's not the damage that counts Ronin. It is the hit stagger shit is able to inflict even on heavy armor.

Well if this is realism discussion, a 1h sword can totally stun and stagger an opponent wearing plate...especially if you hit the head.  A portion of the blunt trauma would translate through the armor and rattle your cage.

Nope, the topic is whatever the OP is about, there is a reason everything else is called off topic.

Nicko only asks because he's crutching strength and IF and plate since I can remember, often needing 6-7 hits with 10PS to kill, so he doesn't notice the smaller damage weapons hitting him.

Ever heard of "thread derailed"? The OP does not always decide what everyone should discuss.

Of course, being clear in the OP does help your topic's life force.

I startes this topic, because panaromix - uber 1h spammer has killed me in five hits with dagger's swing, not stab. And I have 10 IF, Millanese plate +3 and heavy gauntlets +3, so it is 79 body armor. And I dont know what to say(

I believe the rondel swings use pierce, not cut damage.  So that would explain your dilemma.
