Title: How did you come up with your Gamer Name?

I don't believe this has ever been asked, but I see a lot of unique names I've never seen in any other game here in cRPG. I myself started with the name Tank, but then changed it to Tanking, but everyone called me Tanker. Tanker sounded like I had some sort of military experience, so I changed it to Tanken and it has stuck ever since!


So, how did you come up with your name? I am foreseeing a lot of great responses here. Share!

One of my Grandfather's relatives back in Finland was named Artyom, and I started using that on a few different games until Metro 2033 came out.  Once that was out, there was no stopping the "L0l u play matro 2053 2? gewd gam" so to much dismay of the Russians I changed the O to an E.

It also seems like everybody has that other name they either still use or once used that they're completely ashamed of.  Something that they rolled with back in the days of EQ or even Counter-Strike.  Should we share those too?

I saw mine nickname on one forum,and it was so funny to me that i decided to use it here. It's not common nickname,i just saw it once.
It is Diminutive of Serbian word Mleko that mean Milk in English. I was trying to find correct word in English but i couldnt find it.
It means very,very small milk,closest word for it in English could be Milkie. yeah,it's probably ain't grammatically correct,but mine nick on Serbian is also grammatically incorrect so don't try to make any sense out of it. 
Yeah it's dumb nickname,but i like it.  :mrgreen:

I just found my name by taking a woman scandinavian name, Alga , and I added rn -> Algarn, nothing less, nothing more. And I have this name for years now.

My real name starts with a T, as a kid I wrote down Teeh as an account name. That often proved to short, so I added Sgt in front of it. Military ranks are cool when you're 12. Used that name for ages, until in cRPG I went on to make a second character and I decided to add a t and call myself Teeth. 2h felt a lot easier so I ended up only playing my Teeth character. Also got rid of the military rank at some point as my older self could no longer describe it as cool. So I ended up with Teeth.

I'm phasing Teeth out for Franzibald though, which I really like as a name. I decided to call a character Archibald once, because its such a dumb name. Then I made Franzibald, not sure where that came from. Still not entirely sure if it's an actual name or not.

Was playin C&C: Kanes wrath and found the name Kane very awesome and thought of using that. Ofcourse I didnt cause I was sure there would be assloads of Kanes. Somehow that idea progressed into "tiberium" stuff. So I figured "Tiberius" would suit me and it sounds cool. Unfortunately I was retarded back then and also added the "X", for I dunno what reason, basically ruining the whole name. I just go by "Tibe" now, cause nobody bothers to write Tiberius anymore and Tibe seems simple and alright. And I am not a C&C fan, I dunno why I got to thinking about gamer names while playing it.

I would have never guessed a lot of these names, glad I made this thread. You guys are awesome for blowing it up this quickly, now we have to wait and see how long until someone disagrees about someone's name and a 4 page fight evolves :P

other gamername is: lithirian, also my steam acc, kindoff a made up lotr themed name,  and is never taken in any game, unlike rufio  :rolleyes:

Prpavi actually stands for clumsy. We have a thing in my city where we twist the words so we put the end to the front etc. Example: doma (home) we say mado. You can do it with every word even speak the whole scentences. So the real word for clumsy is trapavi, also every neighborhood ads their own ways of twisting it, in my neighboorhood slang it got twisted to prpavitra and then just Prpavi for short  :mrgreen:

I had to make a melee hero ( yes I know) in a browser game, and the name Akynos came out of nowhere. I have no relations to the big fat black stripteaser, just to clear things up.

As for Skono, I'm quite a fan of Hardtyle tracks and a guy at my school gave me a link to a awesome song on youtube, and as the uploader didn't know who was the artist for that song he put up as background a picture with 'sconosciuti' written on it (means 'unknown' in italian). As I kept listening for that song for several weeks straight, the word simply stuck in my mind and somehow I cut it to 'scono' which sounded like a pretty 'beefed up' name. And as I was looking to change my build to full-str plated nublet, the name somehow fitted...

There once was a time when I tried to roleplay a ninja, so I was searching for ninja names and found the name Shihan Fuma Kotaro Nobuyuki ( a ninja who lived in the late 16th century) I made the name shorter and I got Fuma Kotaro.
The Tag "_the_Duck" got added because I just fucking love ducks so much

At my first contact with the basque  language I was very impressed by the amount of "T", "U" and"K" they use for writing. So when I thought of a Name fitting for some fantasy games I thought it might be nice to use these very common letters of one of the oldest Languages around europe. So I played around till I found something that sounded got to me: Utrakil.
Unfortunately I realized recently that people missread it as ultrakill. that might make me change the name someday.

It was my high school nickname (friends from then still call me Moncho), so I used it then when I started playing CS after class.
It used to be Monxo because of laziness, but because a lot of people mispronounced, I changed it to Moncho.

Because of those old arcade/console games where you could only put in 3 characters or too few characters for your name. Just used my nickname- first 3 letters of my name. I have to slightly alter it each time because it's always used. If I could use non-alphabet/number characters, the period works perfectly.

my guess was that, by judging your avatar, you took this from japanese.

My second name Begins with Nej. My nickname since the age of 8 was Nej (rhymes with Hedge, not Hey).

Anyway I started playing crpg when Game of Thrones was starting. Was telling a colleague about the game and he said 'you should totally call yourself Nej Stark', as in a Nejjification of Ned Stark.

Most scandinavians pronounce it like NAY. I think Nej Stark means 'not strong' in swedish.

I´ve had 5 names or so so il tell them all.
George= George from the jungle from that TV show.
Darian= My real name.
Unknown=My old Wolvenstein name , don't know how I came up with it.
Nasi= My favorite food.
Centurii= My version of Centurion , which was a Roman commander/General and I roleplayed Roman soldier for quite a while in cRPG and eventualy the name just sticked.

I usually make a new name for every game I play. In games where I can change my name, I will do so every single session.

M&B was the first game that made me succumb to steam. I really didn't care about my steam name so that's why I chose Wayne which is this really old and bad pun in German. It's like calling yourself idunnolol in English. However, since Wayne, Wayyne, Wayyyne and Wayyyyne were already in use I had to go with the quint ys.
I've never changed my name in native from New_Player until I discovered cRPG and because your character here is permanent I had to settle for a name the best I could come up with was my steam name.
I've thought about changing my name to Wayne but the ys have become kind of a trademark.

Neverwinter Nights' random name generator gave me my name.

People can't spell it so Bubbles (old clan member) shortened it to Tenne. (Pronounced Tenny.)

'Y' 'n' 's' 'c' 'n' are the consonants of my real name and i have been using this nickname for 8 years in various games. But UIF side knows me as 'ChineseNickname' because of Hetman.

I originally went by Juggernaut because i thought as a child that it was the most bad ass name i could find, so i did that till Halo, which threw that shit out the window.  I played the game Final Fantasy X and enjoyed the Blitzball thing more then the game itself, and played it soo much i put about 300hrs into playing just the Blitzball part before finishing the game.  Once Xbox live started up, i signed up as Blitz313, using my numerical address as the 313, since Blitz was already taken.  Later while playing Call of Duty they added this clan tag thing to the front of your name, which i decided on Anti, since that would be my alter ego, make me evil or something, idk you think differently when you are like 14.  Eventually after being called Antiblitz, or just Anti for quite a long time, i just changed the name, as people would chat with me calling me that over Blitz.  Once i started pc gaming, i ditched the numbers, because numbers are gay, and im quite clearly the one and only Antiblitz, so it just stuck.

Yep, congrats, my story is bad, im aware.

A monster in Monster hunter unite is called Gravios, i just removed the last part and made it sound more human or something.. adding oth to the end always makes names fancy. I DID NOT STEAL IT FROM KING GRAVETH IN SINGLEPLAYER IT IS A COINCIDENCE.

I have absolutely no fucking idea where I got my name from. I once tried to Google it to see if I could find any source, and the first result was a ban thread here that Mae made when I team killed her for killing a +3 horse I wanted to ride in NA_1, back when I started this game.

I wish I knew where it came from.

My original c-rpg character was Bob Ross, after the one and only Bob Ross, my childhood hero.

One day, however, me and my friend decided to make an atrocious album while drunk (we're both session musicians), using a detuned guitar and an old synth. We named it Explosion of Tuna. I grew fond of the name, and decided to rename my main to just that.

I wanted a name that rhymed and the word frumpy is fun to say.  Frumpty is derived from frumpy and Dumpty rhymed with it...sooo Frumpty_Dumpty was born (with a face only a mother could love).

Fun Fact: The original Frumpty_Dumpty was an elderly white gentleman.

I had played M&B singleplayer for a whole year imagining myself as a knight before I bought warband.
I created my cRPG account in a rush because I didn't have high expectations when I was about to try out the mod.
So I got stuck with the less original name "Riddaren", which simply means "the knight" in Swedish  :wink:

1 year of singleplayer M&B
2 hours of native Warband
2,5 years of cRPG

I had to make a random alt in WoW fun server. So I just made a character called Kenguru (Kangaroo) and forgot it for some time.
Then I had to create a nickname for GTA:SA MP, on an RP server so my nickname should have been like Name_Surname. So I thought Ken_Guru would be a perfect choice because Ken looks like a name (it is?), Guru is okay for surname, and together it makes "Kenguru" which is funny.
But then I thought that calling myself a kangaroo is a bit pop, I mean such nicknames are usually already taken by someone else, so I just looked for latin (scientic) name for kangaroos and it was Macropus.

Back when I was 12-15 years old kid, I used the nick "Kvestor". Kvestor was a high position in ancient Roman senate, also it was writtable with latin letters like KBECTOP, so it's read like kvestor by russians. Too bad in russian it totally sounds like "Questor" which is stupid, cuz it doesn't have anything to do with any quests, so I gave it up.

I have 5 names and use them for my characters. Not very creative but I like that its my name that shows up slaying peasants and such. My initials are JMJNJ. Only using 2 of the names right now though. James as my main and John as my archer.

I took Senni Ti from dynasty warriors, I had a body guard called senni si at some point. From there whenever I had to make a username, it just pops into my head and I've stuck with it since.
Shortened it to Senni more recently, actually found Senni Ti unavailable in some places :O.

Pretty much as Vodner says though, if I can change my name frequently, I do :P. Particularly native (stuck with * recently though) and JA.

Other Crpg char wise, most are really simple: iTurtle, iHA and iShoot (pre-STF, found i---- funny at the time). Exception being Titan_the_Peasant; wanted a name that fitted a pure STR scythe user (back when STF came out). The surprise on peoples faces when I two-hit them  :twisted:.

At the very start I went with the name of "OX" (games like DoD:s, this was like 8 years ago) but I had to change it quickly due to not many games accept so short name and it was often taken. Foreigners usually fail to pronounce my real name properly so that wasn't really and option. Some ppl already called me from time to time "Viltsu" (irl) but English ppl put W rather than V and I personally pronounced the "tsu" more like "tzu" so there you have it Wiltzu.

I like using nicks of characters from other games as my main has also been called McCloud (http://i.imgur.com/p3Jhfix.gif) and Backlash (http://i.imgur.com/BeFjdsY.jpg) who's characters from F-Zero and Blast Corps on Nintendo 64 respectively.

Almost all my game names are rangers17, which comes from a sports team I was on at the time and my jersey number (I was a very creative child as you can tell).

Phantasmal was originally created as a ranged alt. I had a character from Guild Wars named Phantasmal Damsel who was a Mesmer specializing in illusionary spells and indirect damage. When I laid out the list of what defines xbows, I came up with kiting and hiding in the shadows. So I ported my Guild Wars name to cRPG in reference to those defining features. The all black armor I wear is supposed to "blend in with the shadows" as well.

Name was originally X_Yoko or some stupid shit. Then after playing Skyrim and hearing Jarl Ulfric, my friends came up with Jarl Garlic as some lame joke that wasnt even funny so I changed it to Jarl Garlic after retiring for my first time.

I only made the forum account BASNAK to ask an admin for help and never thought I would stick around (since I hated crpg alot when I started) which is why it's weird and completely unrelated.

If I could choose a new nickname it would probably be something like BESNAX tho.

Used the name Mr Santa in cod 2  and CSS, changing between that name with alterations like just Santa, back in the cod2 days shit like Santa^ was hot, don't ask why i forgot, also shit like ^1 gave your letters colour, which was pimpin, having  red-white christmas colours in game. Always played S&D, those days man.. Those days..

I have tried several times to get back in cod2 but all the fucking retarded servers are bloody modded which 100% annoys me.

Still used Santa in the first modern warfare, havent played a cod since, bought mw3 though, probably put like 8 hrs or so in.

My first char in cRPG was a viking themed warrior, so I named him Jarlen (the Jarl/Earl in Norwegian).

When I retired for the first time, back when we had to change name to do so, I switched the N to a K to make him "Jarlek, son of Jarlen". Joined a clan with that char and everyone kept calling me Jarlek so I decided to just stick with it.

It's a surprisingly used name, I've found out. Almost everywhere "Jarlek" is taken, so I've started to use Jarleck instead. Much less scandinavian looking, but I never have any issues with that name being taken.


As for shameful name used when you were 12: Zapper. Used that for ages and it's pretty much taken everywhere. Glad I got a new one.

My very first name was Doomping_Rocket. One day, my brother who is a lot younger, probably when he was about 5, burst into my room in the morning and said he had a dream about a doomping rocket. I was like, what the fuck is a doomping rocket? Turns out it is a rocket that bounces sideways across the moon in a 2D fashion (My brother has a good imagination...). As I played for a bit on the Aus server when it was still alive, my ping was really shitty, it was anywhere from 100-800 and as I discovered what ping was, I realised that I did in fact, have the ping of doom. Then I just called myself Rocket from then on, up until about 6 months ago where I called myself Centrelink. In Australia, Centrelink is a government funded institution kind of thing that helps people get a job, and people that are disabled, have lots of children they need to raise, medical problems etc. etc. So every thursday or something, people go down to Centrelink to recieve their benefits. Although, you may think, meh, that's fair, these people need help with money and the government is giving it to them. Nope. To anyone else in Australia Centrelink's a Joke. Every Bogan and his dog come down in their Pimped out Holden Commodore Shitbox car to get their benefits because they sit on the couch, watching the footy all day. The people who get the benefits don't actually use them to raise their children or buy food to feed themselves, they just wait until cheque day and then go bust it all on smokes or alchohol. I just thought this was a funny name because its such a joke in Australia.

Started using it in Battlefield 1942 and would troll people by ramming ships and other crazy stuff. Then took it to starcraft. Made it my XBL name in '04 and I've always used it since, it's even in my email and other things I use. Since '01 and when I started playing games. Probably a mix of a 12yo military enthusiasm and the first Matrix, though it's similar enough to some of my name as well.

I used to be lame as fuck and use the name "Slaymen" but then me and my friends decide to have piratey knife fights on AS_Oilrig in CS and then we made the Matey clan.. at first it was 1st Matey, 2nd Matey, 3rd Matey and so on and we got other people joining in and running around knifing fools...  and then it was Captain Matey and Kamikaze Matey and Drunken Matey and we found the mod PVK (Pirates, Vikings & Knights) and so we played that together and ended up recruiting a buncha other people like Aaaargh! Matey and Yar Matey and Molotov Matey and so on... and then we kinda dominated that game for awhile and then they patched it and added a bunch of stuff but also making it more serious and less fun and we slowly stopped playing it and the rest of the Mateys ended up with various other names and so as the only Matey in the other games I was playing everyone would just call me Matey so I just dropped the Drunken except when some other asshole has stolen Matey in which case I add Drunken back.

I actually changed my name to JackieChan after the last crpg char reset for some unknown reasons, before i was called Saladin.
On other games i tend to call myself simply Jackie or JackieScam (guess why) since JackieChan is common and now i prefer having my own unique name.

My first cRPG char was Keyoke, later known as Ninja_Keyoke, which was taken straight from Daughter of the Empire.

Back then you had to change your name when you retired and I really didn't want to go the route of Ninja_Keyoke_II, which looked stupid, so instead I came up with a new nick by slamming my hand on my keyboard and go something like this: khosgodn. I thought "Kho" was fine so I added an ending and got "Khorin".

I had read the books of A Song of Ice and Fire, and later remembered that he was a character(Qhorin) in the books, which is why I made an alt called Ninja_Qhorin. Few realized the connection until the TV series aired.

Then there's Corin, who is Conan's dad in the latest movie, so I made Corin the barbarian. Felt like I had to take Thorin last year. Then there's Chorin from Stargate: Atlantis (old woman called Churin). One day I was bored and made Ninja_Borin. And Ninja_Murphy made the obvious Ninja_Whorin.

Never really liked Khorin as a name and it's only used in cRPG. I have a general name that I use for practically all other games.

My zulu is called ShakaShah, and that's basically a combination of two words: Shaka, the king of Zulu and Shah meaning king of kings.

I've always been big into roleplaying games (the multiplayer story writing kind, not the mmo grind pigs kind) and on a MUD I played way back when, one of the rules were your name had to sound like a fantasy name and it had to be unique.  As in, not get more than 3 pages on google unique.

10 years later 'Kaelaen' is far more than 10 pages regarding hits, and I'm pretty sure I now share the name with an Indian man, like 3-4 different girls, and 2 other dudes I don't know.

Harpag is an acronym for Harpagan. The word "Harpagan" is used in Polish colloquial language to define someone who is impulsive, strong and forceful, and at the same time acts like a madman. The word comes from Greek (fu Panos) harpago-, harpag-, meaning “a hook for seizing; a robbery, rape, seizure, plunder” or Latin: "seize, snatch, plunder; grappling hook, drag; seizure, robbery, rapine, booty; ravish". According to some dictionaries, just greedy, predatory person, but I think it's just funy synonym for fucking bastard which in my opinion really fits the game and whole community  :mrgreen:

And thus, TurmoilTom came to be.

To this very day, it still sounds really cheesy to me, but every time I mention to my friend that I'm thinking about changing it he tells me that it's awesome and that I should keep it.

Well my name is a creation that my niece came up with.  A Gawagili was something that looked like http://i.imgur.com/NUDCHhd.jpg (we don't know what ever made her create that).
 The glue part was also something she used to say, like "happy heart, glue", which throws a happy heart at you with glue to stick.  To be mean you can say "mean spider, glue". 
So that is the incredible story of why I chose Gawagiliglue.

I had always been inspired by cool old wizards/warriors such as Dumbledore or Gandalf. Eventually I just made my own "Dalfador" about 3 years ago. Turns out there is a Battle for Wesnoth character called Delfador, but I assure you, my name has nothing to do with that.

I'm pretty uncreative so I was looking through a list of zelda characters/enemies/bosses for potential names and Scervo popped out at me because I liked the way it looked and sounded and it was similar to one of my favorite songs at the time, Servo.

As to why they named him that in the game, the character (a mini-boss in Skyward Sword) was a robotic pirate, so the name is a combination of the words servo, a type of motor, and scurvy, a disease common among sailors/pirates.

I have a weakness for history and especially half-legendary rulers, and when I was reading about King Arthur, it hit me, "Who was his father again?"  :shock:

So I searched a little, and found this nice picture of a grumpy king (<----) + the explaination of his name.
I was just beginning my journey in world of multiplayer warband, and first mod I really enjoyed (while it lived) was FullInvasion. Jumped on a server with people, who were, as I learned later:
A muslim swede and a nazi finn.  8-) Roleplayed goddamn LotR characters for half a day, then joined up on steam. Swede asked me if I have ever tried cRPG.
"What's so great about it?"
"You'll see, just make an account and jump in. But choose some normal name :P"

And so, "Defender" morphed into "UtherPendragon", who later became "Old_Baron_UtherPendragon", because I used to hold a Baron rank in my first clan.

Back in the day I use to play the Battlefield franchise and loved riding as a gunner or passenger in vehicles, I'm_with_Stupid was just a fun little dig at the drivers. Started off in CRPG as a sneaky xbow and hated when people stood near me and blew my cover, so the name fit. Now that I'm a 12 shield build with my name as my flag, I really love that opponents hopelessly swinging away on my shield have to read that the whole time... :twisted:

Let me start by saying it was really interesting to read how all you familiar players came up with your names. I am enjoying this thread a lot.

My first CRPG character was a Norse-themed guy who I named Skraeling. That's what the Vikings called native Greenlanders when they crossed the ocean before Columbus. I looked like a Viking instead of a Native American because Skraeling sounds viking as heck, man!

After being inactive for almost a year I started a new character named A_Hot_Elf_Princess. Because I was an archer with a scimitar-like 1H weapon. That's elf gear. Elfs don't belong in CRPG. Making it "A hot princess" in addition to being an elf was fuckin hilarious to me at the time as I imagined myself fighting alongside historically accurate vikings, knights, saracens, etc. Despite how generic it sounds, the name stuck out enough that it was recognizable within CRPG.

After many gens of archer and horse archer, I become a crossbow user and switched to an old guy with a monk's robe. Tried several "saint" nicknames and settled on Witch_Hunter or Witchhunter or something similar. Was sad that my male character couldn't use female voice commands. I retired and became a female again. "Witchcraft" was taken so I tried "WITCHCRAFT" and the name grew on me. I've stuck with it since. I even use it on steam now.

Pale_Saint, my xbow alt, lets me relive my times as a crossbow monk. Bonk Knight Ashwen came to be after I drunkenly attended a strat battle that offered +3 Long Mauls and I fell in love with being a BONK KNIGHT (even with no pole wpf, these things are amazing in clustered battles).

Right now I'm WITCHBEARD because I am a member of captain MURDERBEARD's pirate clan. Yarrr. :pirate:

So I started with tkn123 (Xbox live gamertag-first letters of my irl name and bro's names) when playing the Warband Beta. Found cRPG fairly soon after it was started, but then had a break. I came back and started playing as a samurai and found the shogunate clan which I immidiately wanted to join so I made a new character Lord_Katsumoto (big fan of the Last Samurai film ;p). Had another summers break in 2011 to in which i made a new char called Timawd.

However got bored with that name, so made a new one... FleetFox, created through being a fan of the Fleet Foxes band and Foxes being my number one animal and to be Fleeting means fast, which I am irl so it all fitted nicely.

P.S. lol at the story from the Australian about the "Bogans"  :mrgreen:

Took the name of a character from one of my favourite video games, Final Fantasy Tactics. I think he has some of the best character development in a video game I've played so far. From the very beginning he is listed as someone who was never fully recognized for his heroic sacrifices and actions. Even though he's a fictional character, his tragic portrayal is a common occurrence in the real world. It's a case where we can philosophically question our values: if we can't fully acknowledge actions of true virtue, what does that say about our fundamental understanding of society and human behaviour?

Trisection is a name of a song off the soundtrack from the same game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPvQoxXUQok). It refers to a classical mathematical problem. It reminds me to use logical reasoning and actions when playing the game and I believe it helps me play better when I'm in this state of mind.

I happened to like motorcycle racing around the time of the creation of my name, a popular racing gear company called Shift clung to mind. I also just happen to like that word in general. Knife came around for no apparent reason- my dad collects knives, that's probably why. Despite being very easy to make fun of (shitknife) I've stuck with this name since 2007 because I'm very fond of it.

Joe was just a random name I tacked onto Kamikaze. The alternating capitalization happened because I was 14.

My first ever nickname was badwilly88. (and damn, it's still my steam account...)
Back at thoses days, as a french dude, adding some english felt badass, even more if it was "bad".
Willy is just a rough diminutive translation of my own name, and 88 is, ofc, my birth year. What incredible imagination.

Couldn't play with such a name though, so i created Bulzur from scratch. Sounds better in french, and has often been my name in paper rpgs, like dungeon 3.5.
I'm still amazed when i google it to see it's some kind of weird shogimonster (what the hell is that ?), but also a spanish group. Else, only me. Unique name it seems.


Bayard, used for my shielder, comes from the great knight Bayard, in french history.

Kurogane comes from my otaku side. First time i crossed that name, it was in Tsubasa Chronicle, and i really liked the character. So kept it for me "fake" ninja.

Leyla is a name i found in some fantasy litterature, and i really liked the tone of it. Of course, this community started talking to her (so to me) in turkish, so i understood it came from there. Probably.

My first char was named Brainsmasher, because it was a morningstar berserk.

After a while though that felt too childish for my taste (and 2h bored me), and I created my 1h main Díarmuid, after an Irish mythical hero.
Then when I joined the Nordmen, I felt people couldn't really speak that, so I renamed him to Kajia. That was a totally random pick for it's sound, but yet again, nobody knows how I pronounce it ...
the simplest way to speak it seems to be:  K - a (as in "NASA") - j (as in "joy") - (silent i) - a (same like first a)  --  K-Ahh-JJJ-Ah
when I first googled it I found nothing, and took it. Later I found out there are lots of other forms of this name, mostly female ones in norse and slavic languages (Kaja, etc.), but also one male in Turkish (Kaya).

Funny facts: Jarlek told me he wasn't quite sure of my gender for a long time (especially when I did the loading screens) (to clear that up: straight male) -- and when I first joined IRC with this name (2 years ago), some idiot showed up and claimed I stole the name from him ... but he came to the wrong neighborhood, as those were the days of my little 'fame' lol

After renaming my main I dropped Brainsmasher for Díarmuid on my 2h alt. In my character lore Díarmuid (Irish mercenary) is the father of Kajia (Viking traveller from Ireland, over Norway, way into Rus lands, has family in Finnland). All the other alts are grandchildren of Díarmuid, names are given to make sense in my little story (f.i. Aíllen is also an old Irish name, Kalju is finnish and has to do with being bald, Kolja is a common Slavic or Rus name).

Well, the first name I used when I started playing games online was tank buster from c&c zero hour. But eventually I went with havoc( I though of it myself, before I saw the hundreds of other using it). Eventually I went to epitaph and used that for a month or two and went back to havoc. Now that I'm playing a lot of RPGs I started making Latin sounding names with havoc. Havolius, Havocius, Havolion, etc. tbh I just use havoco for forum names.

I read LOTR and the Silmarillion's in 5th grade and many times since (all well before the movies....they came out when I was in college) and loved all Tolkien's lore...especially the civilizations that had faded out before the Third Age - one of which was the Numenoreans (the high race of men, closest to elves).

Elindor is a blend of the Gondorian/Numenorean languages that probably doesn't mean anything specific but sounds fitting based on the kinds of words and names they had.

Been using it since probably 2003.

I guess I will put my story in.  I think I came up with the name while playing the Transformer game for xbox360 that was surprisingly good.  Most of the transformer games were based off the movie IPs.  I had a 360 bootlegging setup at the time and someone mentioned this one was actually good.  It was released between different COD games, so probably in Feb or March when there is a lull in big titles.  Anyway, I gave the game a shot.  Per usual, I was very good at killing people, but I've always had little sense of self preservation in video games.  Anyway, I was probably talking on xbl about how I was murdering the other team with my buddies.  Well, murder+megatron=murdertron.  And thus a legend was born.  Once xbl purged the original xbox accounts, I was able to get the gt, but it's not really my primary gt.

Anyway, Goons brought me here, and talked of how good lance cav was.  After all, they won the cav tourney, so they would know.  I liked lance cav because of my aggressive play style.  I needed a name that portrayed a certain lust for killing and a low sense of self preservation.  Hell, I didn't even care about if I TKed, because goons always said "always take the shot."  I also didn't want a role playing name.  I'm not going to sit here and write pages about who sucked who's dick, while wearing a raccoon suit.  So, I brought this moniker back, and it don't think anyone has mistaken me for a figgy role player yet.

Duke dickbutt is a goon folk legend in Napoleonic War.  So I picked that name up for a bit.

Murderbeard is related to a trend that some of you guys are familiar with.  I used to change my name every gen.  Always murder_____.  Well pirates were often nicknamed by their beards.  Blackbeard.  Barbarossa means red beard.  So why not murderbeard?  It also makes total sense in this game when you've killed a bunch of guys, and find the blood stains all over your beard.

I was very interested in Friedrich Nietzsche when I started playing cRPG. When he went mad of syphilis, he sent out letters signing them "Dionysus" or "The Crucified". I put the two names together, and it stuck. However, Dionysus wasn't my first character...

After returning from a wake I was eating McDonalds and I was trying to come up with a name and the thought of death was still stuck in my head. Thus creating McDeath. Since then the name has evolved to MC_Death because Arrowaine could never pronounce it right

"Hirlok" just "came to me" as a good char name a loooong time ago (was it playing Baldur's Gate??? or DSA???).

Originally he was a barbarian-style character, but then became the old hermit and archer/mage (well, no magic in M&B...) he is today.

He has seen many incarnations, the latest being my main Skyrim char (http://www.flickr.com/photos/elfenwald/sets/72157636055120064).

The name is rather unique - I discovered years later that a village in India is named Hirlok, and it came to my attention that some game makers (game of thrones or something...) honored me and named one of the NPCs in game after me ;-)

As you can imagine how retarded I probably was for naming myself BillyJoeBob, this all goes back to 2010 around when Warband was released. Don't ask me why on Earth I used this name. Maybe for some reason at the age of 17, I thought it would be funny to name myself after some redneck hillbilly, that for some reason, that was a funny image. Now I spit at myself for being so silly.

A few months after the release of Warband I applied to join Einherjar (same as Angantyr), and around that time I realized how stupid my name was, so I just googled "Viking Name Generator" because I had absolutely no imagination. I was prompted with the names Bjorn and something-hinn and decided to mash them together as "Bjordhinn". In the later years, people had settled on simply calling me "Bjord" and I decided to just go with Bjord in around summer 2011.

Other names I've used:

Cactusblock when I was 11 (don't even ask)
Crowe when I was 13 (saw Gladiator and thought Russel Crowe's name looked cool)
Bliss when I was either 14 or 15. No idea what it meant at the time, just thought it sounded cool. Later found out Bliss means happiness and wasn't so fond of it anymore. However, I was a well known player in the Movie Battles community, and I didn't want to bother changing my name. Almost all names my names came from my time playing jk2 (Jedi Knight Outcast) and jka. Probably the only online games that I played as much as cRPG, if not more.

Funny fact: As most of you know, I'm not exactly the humblest guy. Well, that was also true in 2007-2008 when I was called "Bliss". Some wise crackers came up with the jokes "Arrogance is Bliss" and "Bliss is ignorance".

Well, it started back in school in one of the first lessons in my latin course (which really sucked balls), where the teacher explained how the latin language developed and what meanings are in our names. When I asked if there is a latin version of "Niko" (RL name; at that time I was hooked on latin/greek names and mythology), she only answered with "Well, maybe Nike, but that´s the only name which could fit." I hated that, since a)Name of a Goddess b) Goddess of Victory. Come on, that´s lame :P
So I just took "Ikarus" (guy with wings who fell down n died lol) and changed it to "Nikarus". BUT: When I was playin cRPG for some months, I realized that, everytime when I was playing, from time to time some Russians tried to speak with me, because they thought that I was a girl called "Nika" from "RUSsia". Not joking here. Hideyoshi still laughts his ass off about this one.

So I got back to "Ikarus", but I was looking for a more unique name, so I just switched the "s" with a "z", very creative. Then some lousy rapper (and lateron other artists) came up with the same name "Ikaruz", pff. Tried to change my name again, but I was already known as "Ikarus" or "Ike" all around the interwebs and some old online friends, so I just finally switched to"Ikarooz" a year ago and that´s where I am now.
Hm, funny, actually never renamed myself in cRPG to the "rooz" version, but I guess people wouldn´t like it anyways.

spawnie (11-14, the "mini"-version of that super hero "spawn" I only knew from that old movie)

Nikodemus (greek version of Niko)

Hmm, long ago I used to play Day of Defeat by the name "korpisoturi". It's a finnish word, meaning sort of a guerilla/ranger type of warrior from some backwoods (doesn't have a direct translation). But since some games required shorter nick, it became just korppis.

Initially my nick name was Alpine_winter, i used it since when Warband was in beta,  at that  time i wasn't really into videogames,  i bought Warband only in September 2010, even if the game was released  earlier, i think  i started playing crpg in October/November of the same year.

I guess that after some time i got bored of my nick "Alpine_winter" and i changed it to Lars, because i have some friends that call me Lars irl, and it's a shorter name than the one i used before.
I got the nick  Lars when i was in Finland with a friend, long story short: we knew a girl there , she found  my irl nick ridicolous (many friends call me "Lol"), so she called me Lars instead of "Lol", and also  my friend who was with me started to call me Lars too .   
In my mind Lars sounded like a pet name, ( i know a guy who had a dog named Lars lol),  but then i found out that it is a quite common name in Scandia.

My uncreative choice of my ingame nick "Anuran" is from that last battle scene from Lord of the Rings 2, in which Legolas said something elvish and I just heard this word "anuran". And at that time I had a preference for elvish stuff and its language, so I just took this one. I didn't care much... Nowadays I know that Anuran is the scientific name for batrachian or frogs so this nickname has two meanings actually. :D

In that time i really wanted to be a comic designer so I made some stories and pictures of a guy with a katana and shield (he found strange looking blade during some scouting mission).

Finnian was the name of the main character of my first experimental novel that I started writing somewhere around the age of 13.  It was a story inspired primarily by Tolkien and the Inheritance series (back when the latter was still good).  The surname Tiercel came about when I was doing research on falcons and falconry to gain some info on what species of predatory birds would be used by the Geats (the people that Beowulf was of). 
I was doing this because I was working on another novel experiment that took place a generation or so after the death of Beowulf.  I was trying to come up with suitable details for a bird of prey companion my main character was going to acquire.  During my research I came across the term "Tiercel" which basically means a male falcon or other bird of prey (which are smaller and lighter than the female counterparts but therefore faster).

So TLDR Finnian Tiercel is the culmination of seperate elements from two of my novel works (no I haven't worked on either in ages... don't look at me like that.  Tolkien did the same thing.)

1. Porthos_Woodstock - it's very simply obviously. I've played on some russian SA:MP server some years ago (where I met Macropus ^^), and very damn often i've got banned there. So I've generated a variety of wacky names before I've got this name. Obviously this name originates from two of my favorite things - one of my favorite books ("The Three Musketeers" by Alexandre Dumas, from where I've taken a name of my favorite character - Porthos) and my favorite music genre (60-70's classic rock, and the most famous rock festivals of those times - Woodstock). So that's how I've did the deed. This name brought me a little more luck, and I was banned not so fast. When I decided to leave SA:MP and join my buddy Macropus (who by this time had already played here in crpg a few months) so I decided to use this name, 'cos it's more or less associated with the knights/swords/and all such things. By the way, I started as Portos _Woodstock and played under this name a for a very long time, and only in August (I am a dumb asshole, shame on me :oops:), I think, I discovered that my name is written incorrectly in English and I have changed it to Porthos. Sad thing that I can't rename my forum account  :(

2. InvasionOfGiganticLANDCRABS - I've made this char soon after the previous one, and it even had the same face, but the different gear - I've tried to play as a 1h/2h katana shielder :shock:. Yep, I'm was a nab :oops:. So, why exactly I've made this one? Вecause... cause... 'cos... cuz idk, maybe I felt the need to hiding from my friend Macropus or make some griefing fun... Well, I think I know why - I've made this char cuz I just fecking love this word combination :P. So, where it's name came from? Some, like Bruuti, suggested that this is inspired by Mudcrabs from the The Elder Scrolls. Some of you, kind sirs, maybe even thought that I came up with this name by my own imagination. You're all wrong. I've took this hilarious name from a song of one of my favorite bands ever - "Hatfield and the North". They had a song with a temporary name "Invasion Of The Landcrabs", which one became later "Gigantic Land Crabs In Earth Takeover Bid". So I just made my crab invasion gigantic - and voila...

3/4 The_Gorgeous_Twink/The_Gorgeous_Bear - Somewhere in February or even later, I've decided to make some more chars, just because I do love to create different faces :). I've made two persons - the fast 9/30 guy with katana, garish clothing and a pretty face (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twink_(gay_slang)) (skipped the fun), and the 21/18 strong man with an angry beardy face (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear_(gay_culture)). So that's how The Gorgeous Twink and The Gorgeous Bear were born  :wink:

My orginal name was ForGod_of_Acre, but one of the members were butthurt about the "religious" aspect of my name, so I took the d off and became ForGO, but have since changed my name, either bravo, because I served in the army and my Mos was 11 bravo, hence the bravo, now it is Macedonia, because that happens to be my favorite faction in both rome total wars :D.

Once upon a time 15(yes fifteen) years ago I picked up a book on Greek Mythological characters. I skimmed through it looking for names that were aesthetically pleasing to the eye when read and the ear when spoken, and had an interesting story behind them. The story of Tydeus is that he was ambushed by 50 thievelings and killed all but one of them, which took his life. And thus Tydeus was born anew, except I'd kill all 50.

I started in closed beta in Native as Kalpokor, a nick without history, only a result of my own imagination [I played also as "___________________"]. After few weeks in cRPG I decided to use shorter version, a new beginning so a new nick too. After few months I checked out of curiosity if it means something, you know uncle Google and it's a heart in turkish language. A few turkish players said me good words about it  :wink:

My nickname "KpuBopyk" appeared in M&B Warband coz i can't play good in the beginning for a long time. The word "криворукий" is an adjective formed by two words: "кривой" and "руки". And it's a negative characteristic of a person, who does some work (by hand or by fingers) badly. When he does something wrong, in irrational way or produces something of poor quality he is called "криворукий" :D

Having played this game for a long time without using teamspeak, my name apparently was interpreted as Aldo Galus. Random_DTV_Weaboo is a character on which i used to RP as a DTV bot. I would run underneath someone straight into a wall if they were on a building, and just spam yell. I hope some people enjoyed it, though it wasn't a selfless activity. Then joined DTF on this alt, so now its Random_DTV_weaboo_is_DTF

KbW_theflash is generic as fuck

I met an epic troll on IRC named Kikwit who changed his name on a regular basis so eventually I adapted Bilwit. Playing nerdy medieval games like Warband inspired me to embellish it into an actual name and thus became Billy Whitmore. /end of internet life story

several people called me out in ingame chat, king, but that was never an intention behind the name and while i tried for a while to correct people ... why would i correct them when they call me king  :lol:

As the title also isn't related to a real occupation, well i am founder was leader for 3 years of Wolf Pact Mercenaries, now i am founder/leader of "Wovles of Fenris"(see sig), that doesnt make me a king. I am not for a concept that you get special treatment because of birthright. The land will still be there when we all are long gone, we may destroy huge parts of nature and perhaps in the end every living thing on earth, the land still will be there , earth still will be there, so the concepts of borders, nations and being proud of those is quite foreign, at the very least unlogical to me. That may seem to be an Oxymoron with Strategus :) but in that game we are those who are establishing a territory, fighting over it. The accomplishment is more the organizational part for me from my point of few.

Well once upon a time there was this game that was like a million bad called Face of Mankind, or FoM for short. In concept it was not a bad idea, player run economy, Tons of fun role play possibilities, a nice rigid faction system so that people actually did stuff others didn't, and a Combat system that felt like quake 3 without the triple-back-flip-spin-kicks-rocket-launcher-to-the-face-jumps. For a long time I was a member of the FDC (Freedom Defense Corps), which had a play base size of big and a logic level of piss low, and was the military of the game (Sadly has since been removed, too much butt mad, too much power in too few peoples hands.) For a short while I was also in DA BEST OF DA BEST Freedom Defense Marines, which is something like the portrayal of the American Special Forces in Video games, a bunch of super cocky assholes who blow shit up and frankly don't care that you are now missing your legs. (I later joined the CMG due to a coup and some other stupid stuff so I was swimming in the dosh and felt good for funding, managing, and supplying wars between faction A and B). One day I was on the big ass prison planet and our good buddies (By that I mean target practice) the LawEnforcementDepartment was under attack by the Mercenaries of teh blood, and by a particular cell called Built, which made the combined KDR's of the top 10 NA seem like they had a few missing bits of brain. Being that 2 guys wiped out my whole platoon except me and some other guy who ran off (At this time I had been court marshaled and sent to work with the grunts) which means the 2 of them in a matter of like 45 seconds killed 38 people...with 2 guns...versus 38 guns. Anywho from that day forth I perma killed that Character, came up with "Steve R. Built" and got gud at the game, got offered to join and killed the recruiter and quit for the 3rd time.

Came up with the name about 12ish years ago when I was playing Dark Age of Camelot on their PVP server.

I wanted a nordic type sounding name, and it stuck ever since.

Still get people who recognize it from that game and say hi.

I choosed it after reading David Gemmell's "Morningstar". Completely identified myself to the character of Owen Odell, but it got mixed in my mind between the gaelic name of Nolwen which means white sun and Owen...

a few years ago I started playing with crpg and at the same time, I started to read the saga A Song of Ice and Fire, I read this name Rhaegar, he made a terrible end, killed with a warhammer in a stream, I found it perfect as at the time I did nothing but die in crpg. reading the other books I also discovered that it was one of the most interesting of the whole saga ...

I've been rolling with "Macbeth" as far as I can remember.
The surname "Plisskin" that I'm always using, was tacked on in 2008

As for the origins of the name "Macbeth". That one is very simple. I love Shakespeare, and nearly all of his plays. I also find the Scottish culture very Interesting, even though I'm a Belgian. Ontop of that It was the name of a Character of what used to be my favourite Cartoon show (Gargoyles) when I was a wee lad. Beeing 26 now, I still like that show xD

"Plisskin", wich became my Surname, was like stated before, added in 2008. Most people think I chose it because of a character "Snake Plisskin" from some movie, but that's not true. I've never seen the movie and people always ask me if I got my surname from that.
