Title: Need help: Cav build
Post by: TheHowdy on September 25, 2013, 11:50:10 am
Hi there, I haven't really played cavalry on cRPG so I don't really know where to go when speaking about cavalry. I am interested in trying a 1h or 2h (is morningstar on cav considered 1h or 2h) cav build. For now I have 3 different builds that I can think of:

a) 21/15
7 IF - 7 PS - 5 ATH - 5 RIDING - 5 WM - 146 OH WPF

b) 18/18
6 IF - 6 PS - 5 ATH - 6 RIDING - 6 WM - 154 OH WPF

c) 15/21
5 IF - 5 PS - 5 ATH - 7 RIDING - 7 WM - 163 OH WPF

Feel free to suggest different builds or modify the above. Thx in advance

where is ur shield?
You need a shield on pony,it's dangerous to ride low armored pony without shield, but you also need a bigger shield skill. :|
Shield is useful when you want to bump some ranged, you raise shield and can bump it easily without getting in danger of getting head shot, also is useful when lancers try to couch kill ur pony, you can sacrifice shield and save ur horse.
You need armored, slower pony for 1h cav,one that you can easily turn and doge lancers,HA,and ranged on ground. i suggest you get +3 large warhorse for 1h cav.
Try something like this.
18/18
3 or 4 IF,6riding,athl,ps,4 or 3 wm and shield.
5 riding sux balls,it's so shit, don't try to ride anything with 5 riding.

Drop the athletics unless going for a higher level build, you'll most likely be dead before you have a chance to use it. Anything from 24/15 to 12/30 will work for cav. How effective a build is depends on your playstyle. 2 shield skill and the sexy Horseman's Heater Shield is enough if you plan to stay on your horse the whole round, but in infantry combat it'll be useless. Morningstar uses 1H wpf with a shield and 2H wpf without one. 1H cav is superior imo compared to 2H.

18/18 is a good place to start. Lancers need speed so anything below 7 riding might be too little, 1H/2H cav will be effective with 5 riding.

Drop the WMer it's so useless if you just go pure 1hander , always max out ath and riding .

Arabian cav, and Long Espada Eslavona come to mind. One for swinning the other for stabbing.

It's mostly useful for strat battles where people have huge amounts of armor. Onehanded it loses 25% of damage afaik so it actually does 28.5p damage. Most of the time you're better off with a long high damage 1H sword like Arabian Cavalry Sword, Nordic Champion Sword, Spathion or Paramerion.

I'm seeing lots of bad advice in here.  I think 2h from horse is better than 1h, and more useful on the ground as well.

A shield is not necessary for riding a horse (although I really like it for blocking projectiles, protecting you from a couched lance, or when dehorsed it allows you to stay alive longer...but it costs skill points that will limit your attributes).  Do not drop athletics.  Always max out your athletics, power strike and riding.  I prefer to then max WM (you do more damage, pay less upkeep on weapons, and swing faster), others will swear by putting points into IF instead of WM.  Don't go more agility than the horse requirement that you want to ride.

That's the first step is to pick what horse you want, as a 1h/2h I'd suggest going with a 5 riding horse so you can get more power strike.  I'd suggest going 24/15 (basically giving up ironflesh for 1 one more power strike).

If you're using a shield, then I'd always do one of these 21/15, 18/18, 15/21.  If not using a shield convert more skills to attributes and go 24/15, 21/18, or 18/21 (at level 30).

I'd suggest this build for you:

(click to show/hide)

Otherwise you could go 21/15 and put those points you converted into IF (but I'd prefer to do more damage than take more damage).

No it's 2h if you don't have a shield, and it's very brutal (but swings pretty slow).  It's probably the best 2h for being on an armored horse (IMO).  But some of the 2h swords are nice too (can't say which for sure since I've never been 2h...but longsword/HBS/Bastard Sword are probably good choices as well).

Longsword does less damage than ACS (27.75c vs 33c), is much slower and has only slightly more reach. 2H swords on horseback are not good options. And you can't use a shield. 2H swords with a shield use 1H wpf.

What about this?:

24/15

8 PS - 5 RIDING - 5 ATH - 5 WM - 146 2h WPF - 59 HP

Large warhorse - morningstar

I think it would be a beast build if you can afford the war horse's upkeep costs

24/15 best 2h cav build

15/21 best 1h cav build

21/15 best lancer build

Agreed with stru...with the caveat, I think 18/18 is a good lancer cav build (also using 1h/shield on courser).  21/15 would be good on 5 riding horse with polearm/1h/shield.

You can also be good lancer cav with pure polearm and no shield, going something like 21/18 or 24/15.  Lots of viable builds.

21/15 for lancer cav, so that you can deal some good damage and also be lethal on foot.

15/21 for 1h cav because it does an Op amount of damage because you 1 hit everything

24/15 for 2h cav because its worse than 1h cav and you need the extra PS to 1 hit kill people

Yeah I think the morningstar is better than any other 1h or 2h weapon from horse.  And being able to use a 2h on the ground is more useful than 1h (if you're not using a shield, which he said he wasn't).  The other reason why I think 2h from horse is better, is because you don't need to put points into using a shield, so you can have a build like 24/15 instead of 21/15.

I personally have always been polearm/1h/shield from horseback.  Only one gen did I go straight polearm (and was 21/18 instead of 18/18) and I still did pretty well.  I think lancer cav is best cav personally.  But I see 2h cav doing better than 1h cav whenever they're on the server.

In NA, 2h cav typically do better. Only very good 1h cav I noticed on NA were Lamk and ROHYPNOL.

I found strength builds on horses to be much easier, 21/15 or 24/15. I would only change if you want to use the higher difficulty horses or if you prefer higher ath on foot.

21/15 is the best 1h build but you must give minimum 3 shield point.Actualy 3 enough you can use brown kite shield.

At that point I'd suggest going with 4 shield (so you can get either elite cav, knightly heater, or knightly kite) far superior to any other lower tier shields.

3 shield skill is nice for using a heater shield though.
