If you have free time and not at least one X game, a must have. Go for Albion Prelude.

I would get this but I don't have the will to study for a game as expansive as the X series

I haven't managed to get into this yet. I guess its kind of like an offline Eve Online but with proper dog fighting in space

I believe you only really need one of the X games as they basically just sell updated versions of the same game, but with a new storyline (not sure if people do the stories or if they are worth playing the old games for)

Ablion Prelude seems to be the latest, and I think you need to install Terran Conflict for it

Yea, I was thinking about it too. But from all I know, they are massively time consuming and just huge... and since I am not that much into sci-fi, I'll pass on this one.

Reviews were always solid tho, afaik.

Nice, I've been waiting for a steam discount for TC+AP. Thanks for the info.

Yes although the X games are also arguably much simpler than EvE and more importantly you are quite free to play them the complicated (industry management etc.) or the simple (blow stuff up) way. Dog fighting is very nice but not as good as Freelancer (I have yet to find a space dogfighting game better than Freelancer at dogfighting).

Yep. The plots and storytelling is the most horrible I have ever seen. But there's quite a lot of lore than you can learn about. Just take AP.

You don't need to install TC to play AP

The minimum knowledge required to play and have fun doesn't take that long to learn (dogfighting, local trade and sector navigation) but the game doesn't explain anything properly. I would advise reading/watching a video or two to get one started. Everything can be learned ingame from there, you just need to be ready to sink a hell of a lot of time into it.

Albion Prelude is the only one in that pack that you really need. And it's a standalone.

And yeah, I've sunk maybe 30-40 hours in total in this and never managed to do anything. That said, it was fun :D

I spent my first couple of hours trying to spawn in the capital ships with the scripting system :D.

Overestimated the Kyoto (super heavy destroyer ) by gating to a xenon area, ran out of ammo, didn't have whatever is necessary to jump out.
And I was too slow to run back to the gate :P

Now that everyone and their mother has X3, has anyone played this game in multiplayer? How does it work and would it be cool to get together for that?

Multiplayer is absolutely awesome, you can all gather around 1 computer and watch as 1 player controls the game.

Well once you have a little commercial empire you can roleplay your corporation's board with friends.
