Title: Do you like your job?
Post by: Grumpy_Nic on August 26, 2013, 11:30:00 am
Question to the working people:

Do you like your job or do you just go to work for money?

Reminds me of the one time I sat in a public toilet once, just minding my own bussines, then this Asia cleaner lady bangs on the door, I say "I'm in here" Obviously she didn't hear me and fucking opened the door with her key. No more shats were had that day.

On topic; only thing I do is some easy shit like mowing the lawns.

I need to pay my bills, and I contribute 1/3 of my life to society i live in, as a "thank you". I neither like or dislike my job, it's just something that needs to be done. But since i do my work honestly, without "cutting corners", no one ever objected to this "philosophy" :D

EDIT:

To avoid any confusion, i pay close to 40% tax, and since i have never even been to a doctor, or used any other communal "resources", i consider these 40% to be a pure contribution/donation. :)

Oh yes the tax, I feel with you, I have to pay about the same as you. I dont like my job, but once you've reached a certain standard in life you dont want to step down so I gotta do what I gotta do.

Well, I am doing proper Research and Development on the job, designing boards, solder them, test them, program them... and get paid barely anything for it. But that's the deal as student I guess.
Pissing me off is actually the fact that others publicize measurements done with equipment I designed and built w/o even mentioning my name. That gnaws on my pride tbh :|

UNFAIR!

Had a job that payed 1000 euro a month, hated it, was dying inside, quit, now i get by with twice as less and lead three times happier life. I'm not the type of guy to sacrifice that for material stuff, money and belongings can't make me happy, sadly realised that after reaching the breaking point, better late than never I guess. You should never do something you really hate just for the money.

People having children on other hand I can understand, I will also probably be less picky and take allot more shit for the sake of my child if I have one some day. I also do it for a partner but only to a certain extent, nowhere near as the child I believe.

I've done this similar shit the entire year now. Even during weekends sometimes. Thank god im going back to school during september. I swear il study more now. Nothing more gradeboosting then doing shitty jobs for a good period of time. Would recommend it to everyone, you start seeing things on a whole new perspective.

I despise my job but I can't find another one that's going to pay more money right now so I've got no choice but to deal with it.

Well, I'm not working with it atm, but I'm "studying"/training welding for the time being. I really like it, working with your hands, body and brain. Afterwards I will prolly move my ass to norway and work my ass of. My goal is to get myself into the oil or ship industry.

Selling boards too  , but not the same as benkei's one   :| and also clothes . This job fills my free-time when i'm not studying and it's fairly paid. And as the sales are done since a while , the job consists most of the time of "taking a seat, and sorting the new arrivals once each 4-5 hours with a punk-rock musical background. " So hell yeah it's a decent job !*

I enjoy it as much as I can- both of my jobs are pretty simple endeavors, entry level work. At one I drive around and use a GPS to navigate to client yards, then I hop out, throw my headphones on, and scoop dog poop into a bucket. For what it is, it pays pretty well (12.50 usd/hr) and allows me a lot of time to ponder ideas, observe nature, and gag, sometimes.

The other one is as a mail inserter (putting advertisements into newspapers via automated machines- loading hoppers and so on). It pays the same as the first position, but I'm stuck in a warehouse. I still get to listen to lectures or what have you on my headset all day, so I think of it as a study period more than work.

Overall, the whole system of society which runs off of commodity and consumerism and necessitates the use of currency leaves a bad taste in my mouth, though. I feel as though there has got to be a better way to live, one which has more meaningful interactions with one's environment and community without the dehumanizing elements present in the majority of positions available.

Short of joining a commune or going to live on the peak of misty mountain, I don't really have a functioning model of an alternative way of life yet, but I remain hopeful. It is my fervent belief that the best idea will win at the end of this 12'000 year or so period of mania we call history, and that all other ideologies and the institutions supported by them will fall by the wayside.

I just started a customer service job at a telecoms company. Pretty shitty but people are nice and I need the money atm. Now I've got a steady job under my belt I'll think about what I want to do properly.

I quite like my current job. I only work three days a week (software development) and still make enough to live a decent life. Hooray for education, I guess.

I've been unemployed for like 2 years... once I ran out of unemployment benefits It started getting really shitty... Can't buy weed with government money anymore.

I need a jaaaawb!!!

I did QA testing (game testing) for NamcoBandai in the past... before that I worked at a "tobacco accessory" shop which sold "waterpipes" (Don't call them bongs or I can't sell them to you!).

Game testing is pretty fun, but you can feel like you are starting to lose your mind when you get put on a shitty project. The worst game on the NamcoBandai contract was by far, Yogi Bear, on wii... pretty much like a super mario brothers rip off, done horribly shitty. If you find anyone entertained by that game, I swear they must have some sort of mental retardation. The nice thing about the job is its a pretty lax office environment, you can talk/joke all day long as long as you aren't too loud, profane, or racist

Trying to get another QA Testing Contract atm

As long as I'm doing things in my official job description, I'm satisfied. Unfortunately, most of the time, I'm doing random shit that isn't real work. It's all very pointless and depressing. This combined with twelve hour work days, sometimes working 24 hour shifts, and completely incompetent managers might make a lesser man kill a bitch.

I have mixed feelings about my job. But hey, I'm a freelancer and I can get shit done solely by sitting at the computer. I think not having to leave my home for work is a great feeling anyway. I have even turned down some great job offers to maintain this freedom of mine.

I like my job, its the best I've ever had, but when I retire and don't need to make money, I'll be doing other creative and productive things that I enjoy more that don't necessarily pay much if anything (but could pay more than I make now with some luck). If I did them now it would be a gamble, and I'm too close to retirement to risk doing it now. I can wait 10-15 years.

I work in a toy shop, at the moment only 1 day a week, probably going to stay like that when I go back into my 3rd year of uni. If I can't get a programming related job after uni I'll just do more hours. I bring home broken stuff sometimes and get a nice discount which is tempting but for the markup. Customers are generally nice, tend to be fairly well-off middle class families. After doing door-to-door charity fundraising, this job seemed like heaven.

My life philosophy right there! Better do what you truly want, if you can get by with it, instead of selling your soul to satan to get a fat paycheck.
