Title: any possible way to make my character not invisible for stabs?
Post by: dreadnok on August 22, 2013, 09:16:43 pm
when someone does the 2h spin stab why doesn't it stop when it comes in contact with my character? shouldn't it glance soon as the tip hits me or my shield or block even? regardless if they released the attack

regardless if they released the attack

Hit boxes don't exist until they release the attack.

yeah it would be awesome if weapons had static hit boxes even when they haven't been "released" from a chambered swing.  so many issues would be fixed if weapons had hit boxes at all times.

Pikes and support poles would be rendered useless in groups...

They'd be able to "brace" them in the ground then, and you'd take damage by trying to walk through someone's pike they were holding.  I think it would be awesome.

I understand what you are trying to say, but it should be a secondary mode that has a separate animation.

Otherwise, Support poles would only be effective in organized lines or by themselves.  Which would make battle servers even more "Hero" orientated.

Keep the way they are now alone and just add a secondary.

I believe Napoleonic Wars has a mechanic like this, if you stand still with a pole for a couple seconds.  (Including rotation) You will brace the pole arm in front of you.

Not against the idea of that, but I would rather it was implemented differently than you say.

that's bullshit. my 1h overhead bounces off bodies if im too close. your body is a an object not an hit-box. thats the point im trying to make.

Your body is not a hitbox, your characters body is one because its a game. I dont think that your suggestion is possible in crpg

It just doesn't make sense anyway you look at it. There's no way to stop the stab spin as soon as it hits your players body if not released? Its really that hard to fix?  How come you run into teammates and stop and horses make contact with you as a solid object? I get the - on the post cause those people love abusing the mechanic but its still pretty fucking silly

These "support" weapons are already superior to most weapons in game even solo. There is a reason everyone in the game is using one. My point has to only do with stabs being released while thru character. Its just plain silly. My character isn't invisible.  The stabs alone are gross but I understand they have to be in the game

Then what stops actually players when you bump into them or horse run into you. Or run into a wall

Today I saw two longspears, one pike, and three two-directional polearms.

EVERYONE IS USING ONE

I see no problem with this...

Look, but why would you need to block a hit that is not released yet (therefore can't damage you)?
I honestly don't see a problem here...

That would actually fuck up the balance between long and short weapons too much. And you know, if you constantly get stuck with your weapon without even attacking, to what would you respec? To archer.  :o

Yeah that's one scene I really didn't like from the tv show that I really liked in the book.  In the book he leads the left flank and is trapped against a river (don't recall which one) and fights quite valiantly.
