Title: Rust
Post by: stukii on August 21, 2013, 10:22:57 pm
A survival game from the Garry's Mod developers.

Like DayZ meets Minecraft.
It's just in alpha yet, but i like the concept. Have always been dreaming about my very own hut on the Komarovo beach..

I'm willing to share my betaaccount with anyone interested.

lets hope its not another of those games with excuse: its is blocky because its style, not because devs were just lazy to pull of decent gfx.
EDIT: looks cool, maybe it will be decent one day. still, i am not too keen to play alphas.

Does anyone know what is happening with this game? I just checked http://playrust.com/ and it seems like they're redoing a lot of stuff, are they completely recreating the game?

Sort of. They are just redoing things. It is going a lot faster than they planned because of the sales it got.
I think they're going into the right direction, focusing on emergent gameplay.

Had a great time in Rust, raiding other people's bases is great fun, plus being raided (as long as you win :P) is great fun too!

Unfortunately the game runs pretty bad once a server is semi-populated, the more people build things the worse everything gets. There's also some pretty glaring balancing issues (explosives etc).
Had plenty of bad experiences with server admins, people banned each other left and right if they were opposed in-game, plus spawning items for themselves and their friends. If you've spent a good deal time building something for then to have an admin, time after time, ban you because you shoot them in-game, gg.

No doubt Rust is here to stay though, especially if they're giving it a do/make-over, if they can fix the above issues then it's really a hilariously, albeit often very immature, entertaining game.

Yep, thats the only problem I had with the game aswell. But i'm sure there are good servers with fair admins, somewhere.

Rust that is called Legacy now was interesting and competitive (especially first versions in Winter-Spring), then they just went full fantasy crap that became boring and frustrating.

I like it a lot more now, more content, prettier, bigger world.

Ya been playing new rust a lot lately and have been having a blast. I feel both rusts have their positives and negatives.

I might have played a long time ago if you're so excited. The one that I played was full of bugs and poor performance (approximately half a year ago).

They're putting in new stuff every week, just check the devblogs to see what they've added lately. It's progressing nicely.

Update on Rust

Amongst a ton of other stuff they fixed/added lately, there's also:
- new/improved UI
- performance/graphics improvements
- new items
- mining automatization (you build this mining thing, add fuel to it, mines for you) (http://playrust.com/devblog-64-1-a-miner-update/), water catcher (http://playrust.com/devblog-64/)
- initial verson of farming (http://playrust.com/devblog-65/)
- supposedly electricity system is coming soon which might make things a lot more interesting

I like that they're able to keep a decent pace of development. You can see interesting stuff being added to the game in their devblog every week. It's already a decent game and I'm sure with a bit more time it's going to be great.
