It's not just that I'm a frustrated STR whore, although it helps, it's that the attempt to tone down all the people running round the siege servers wielding great mauls has resulted in an equal number of facehugging turtles running around the siege servers with picks and hammers instead, now that the counterweight to them has been taken away.

deceive them and trick them to drop their guard.
edit did i say anything wrong? why do people - me for this?

Having been overhead crushedthroughed by rohypnol's great maul in battle today, I have no idea what you're talking about.

he means he wants ct on every hit regardless if its glance or not.

Well that's silly. No need to buff 2h. A crushthrough isn't the only way to beat shielders, and if you can't use the many options provided to you (kicks, nudges, feints, holds and chambers) to fight a shielder, maybe you shouldn't go dueling them. Stick with your team and lend your crushthrough when you have the opportunity.

thats what i meant, deceive and trick them with feints and footwork. it isnt that hard to beat shielder, especially with all those weapons with bonus against shields.
which brings up another problem, is it really worth getting 2h sword when axes are nearly as long, have same speed damage plus the bonus against shields?
-
He's right, great mauls are trash--and that's coming from a 18STR guy who only fights against them and not with them. When even my one-hander alt can reliably block the overhead you know that something isn't right. A 3-slot, slow as hell, shorter than a 1h, non-crushing maul...junk.
-
As a shielder I have to say there is nothing more frustrating than a maul.
With 5 ath and a shield to carry i am not fast(or maybe not good) enough to sidestep. so what can i do?
raising my shield is simply useless. All I can do is run as soon as I see a maul.
What about giving them knockdown against a block but no damage.!?
That would make them great supporters but not the 1-hit killers. Its fine getting knocked to walhalla when I don't block. But
I think my shield should be good for something.

Buff the longsword

Lol great maul's are a joke since if they want to crushthrough they have to hold I just outswing them when they hold. If they don't I just block it. They're more of a support class now I guess.
-
The point I was trying to make is that there were probably too many mauls on siege, but the (sixth) nerf of the great maul hasn't really improved matters, just made everyone play a facehugging shielder instead. May as well go back to mauls.
-
Would rather fight a server full of shielders than a server full of maulers anyday
-
I have a 21/18 2h character and I crush almost every time. After the most recent change to mauls you will almost never crush on a non-held attack, but crush everything with a tiny hold. The pathetic turn-rate of the weapon is more of a problem, considering it hurts is usefulness in mass-melee.

What gurni said.
CT on holds are so good now, you can CT a +3 steel shield with 6 ps and a mallet. Already earned lots of money from "good" maulers who bet against it when I mention it.
Holds are the name of the game now and it also means AGI chars are better maulers than STR. 18/24 is a beast now with a mallet since nobody expects a mauler to get in range that fast.
If you are a STR mauler though, well, stop sucking man. Sure, you don't CT on quick overheads, but you shouldn't go for it. Sideswings are the way to go as a STR mauler. Get one knockdown and the second hit should kill them. CT is for when you feint from side to overhead or got an ally to make sure he can't interrupt you.
CT for teamwork, sideswings for solo.
-
The maul is awesome I have it as a secondary, the great maul is just not very good. I don't know why but there's something about side swinging that a lot of players don't block on the maul, mallet, and great maul.

For me, it's so slow to wind up, but seems to hit you the moment it releases (and it barely moves during its initial release). It makes you think you'll hit them first or you'll get hit later than it actually does. Then there's the chance they'll switch into an overhead or stun your block, so you can't just hold your block for too long.
I don't think mauls are worse, they're just different now. CT does considerably more damage, and you can't be sure whether a non-held overhead will hit or not. There's a higher chance that it doesn't, but it's not guaranteed, so you assume the worst case anyways.
-
What are you talking about, mauls are one of the strongest weapons in strat.
-
I like the way crushthrough is implemented atm. You have to be a team support because of the wind up of the attack before releasing. This is something that was implemented well imo
Before it was too strong offensively while having too few shortcomings defensively. At least now you have to hold the attack a bit which means a bigger opening for enemies, and the requirement to use team mates to make full use of the crushthrough
