Title: Attack bug?

I am currently trying attack someone on strategus.  He has 1 troop, and I have 655. 
I am quick marching, and have horses, I am moving at almost 77m/m. 
As nearly as I can tell, and he can confirm later that he is moving in a straight line. 
He has not attacked or been attacked in 100+hours.
I have tried attacking 10+ times.  From in front of(on his path) behind, and from within 10m of him.
His fief is under attack, if that effects anything.

What exactly is the issue here? Is it known?

dont use quick march
- calculate his speed
- attack him from distance = "ur speed"- "his speed"
- profit

That's not very helpful.  Anything specific to say in the bug identification category/ could you elaborate?

That's more helpful.  Any idea what the margin for error/minimum attack range is?

i think u need to be around 50m from him for 2 min in row
so if my 1st shit didn work try attack him from distance "ur speed" - "his speed + 40 " so
in 1 min u will be on distance 40m behind him and on the next one ~30m ahead

Would make sense for why qm sucks for attacking a moving target in open field.  But that's a wtf game mechanic right there if those are the conditions for an initiated battle.

I have be told about this bug and cant think of any logic behind it as a purpose built mechanic. If an army is marching straight toward a fief, target or anything and you march head into its path in attack then it should be a battle. But I know people with inside information on how this works use this to their advantage and avoid obvious conflict. Is this a bug or something for people who know more then others to use to their advantage?

Let me see if i got this straight... if you quickmarch to get away from battle you'll get away from people not quickmarching. But if you quickmarch to catch up the battle wont initiate?
Is that what you are saying?
