Title: Warriors of the First Age declares alliance with The Kingdom of Veluca
Post by: Thalion_Menelvagor on August 14, 2013, 02:21:19 am
Night had fallen on the army encamped in the rolling hills and fields of the country side surrounding the village of New Nomar. Many campfires had been lit and soldiers sat restlessly around them wondering what the next few days would bring.  The last few weeks had been nothing but marching through field, wood, and bog while camping for days at a time between marches.  The mood of the soldiers was beginning to grow sullen, for when marching men to war it is best to get them there quickly so that their courage and sense of purpose has less time to waiver, so that they do not have too much time to think about what they have to loose.

Commanding the army was Thalion Menelvagor, a warrior of an age long passed, now trying to secure a place for his people in the new land of Caladria. At the moment he sat with his boots propped up smoking on a long-stemmed pipe in a tent in the center of the encampments. Inside the tent there were several candles lit on a table covered over with a bunch of dusty old maps that he had been able to find depicting this area of Caladria, essential for an army to know its surroundings.  For several days now his scouts had reported the movements of large contingents of soldiers form the King of Veluca. It seemed their offensive had begun in earnest against the collection of fiefs known as Murder Boner, referred to by the troops and common folk alike as MB.  During the day spiraling columns of carrion birds could be seen in the direction of New Nomar where it seemed the heaviest of the fighting was taking place.

In the meanwhile negations had been taking place both in person and by use of errand riders. Finnian Tiercel, leader of the Warriors of the First Age had been able to get word to the negotiations through the clever use of carrier pigeons. It seemed that his company was drawing near after having been ambushed by a large contingent of strange warriors who were attempting to invade Caladria from another faraway place.  Briefly, Thalion wondered if his own people could be considered invaders. Already, since traveling to Caladria they had begun to meddle with the internal politics and struggles between kingdoms. Such was the way of the world, he supposed. It seemed all the good and strong places in this land had already been laid claim to. For a people seeking a new home, hopefully before winter, it was a daunting prospect. Then among their travels the Velucan King had offered a possible solution, yet the cost was aiding them in their war. Would the reward be great enough? The negations had been promising and Thalion hoped that by the first snows of winter all of his army and the folk they had brought with them from their homelands would have a home that they would be safe and content with for generations. Sudden footsteps nearing his tent, however, interrupted his thoughts and he reached quickly for his blade.

“Milord!” came a voice from outside; Thalion recognized it as one of his guards, Aldeth.  His voice sounded winded and urgent.  “A rider from the Velucans!”
“Enter,” said Thalion, letting the sword rest against the edge of the table where it had been and standing to meet the envoy. He rarely employed the tactic some lords liked to use of always remaining seated unless it was clearly evident that a person of superior rank was coming to visit you, it struck him as being lazy and arrogant when not being used for a necessary purpose.  Two men entered through the tent flaps, Aldeth came first and then stepped aside to reveal none other than the Steward of Veluca himself. “Lord Tristran,” said Thalion make the small but proper bow to satisfy both propriety and courtesy.

“Thalion,” Tristran replied with a nod.  “We have received word of a large force of enemy soldiers marching towards us from the east. They pose a threat to our forces besieging New Nomar. The time of negotiations must draw to a close, now we must march into battle together or risk a defeat.  Now is a chance for the warriors of the first age to prove their valor on the field. You wish for a home for your people? Show the lords of the kingdom of Veluca you are willing to fight for those lands.”
Thalion was silent for a moment thinking deeply on last time and feeling the weight and the value of the lives that this path would sacrifice. The lords of Veluca had been courteous and the alliance looked promising.  The Warriors of the First Age would fight as no mere mercenaries, but as comrades to Veluca’s soldiers. The prize at the end? A home for a people long bereft of hearths of their own. “Well, will you send the aid we need? Will you allow our forces to join in an alliance to sweep clear our foes from the field?” asked Tristran, this time extending his hand.

Thalion met the Steward’s eyes with a gaze as resolute and as cold as drawn steel. “Aye, we will aid you and forge an alliance to secure the safety of our peoples,” said Thalion.  Reaching out Thalion grasped the Steward’s forearm with a strong grip. “Let us hope we can bring this war to a swift end. Now I will bid Aldeth fetch a chair, we must make our plans for the upcoming battle.”

Not a vassalage at all. Yes, we are a small clan and newly formed but that does not automatically mean we are vassals because we choose to fight with one or another of the larger factions. At the very least, just enjoy some roleplay from some other members of the community who like to have a little fun with the game.

I think you took a wrong turn.  Taking advantage of small clans via proxy wars is kind of FCC's thing.

Well I won't call you a vassal, but I don't think that vassal's are a bad thing or that it's somehow a derogatory word.

Nice RP btw

Yeah seriously what's wrong with being a vassal? This game's raw power dynamics aren't very sophisticated and boil down to absolute #s and efficiency ratios. A bigger clan can just wipe out a smaller clan by sending waves and waves of troops, wearing them down no matter how well they defend (what we did recently to Acre). Leaves people no choice but to seek out larger friends for help, so essentially to vassalize.

Looks like the black hole that is the great war continues to engulf factions. When's the anniversary of the great war anyways?

LOL 25 years of Madden, I still remember playing on Sega Genesis (1994 was a good game, way better than 92 or 93).
