Reduce the weight of shields when its just worn on the back, especially for the cheaper shields. This would allow people to take a shield without it impacting your main role as much.
-
do as he says!
-
4-5 kg for the cheap shields really isn't that bad; every ranged weapon+ammo that you would be trying to block weighs more than that anyway.
I would like to see shield skill reduce the effective weight of shields though, maybe ~1kg per skill point.
-
I could see shield skill reducing the weight some, but I don't agree that shields should weigh less. Everything in this game is a trade off, and that's what I really like about it.
Played 18 or so gens (currently level 34) and all but 2 I've had 4 or 5 shield skill. But I always use 1 slot shields (typically lighter).
-
My intention isn't to buff shields when they are worn or deployed, just so they don't combine with armour weight when its on the back. This is more comparable to ranged having to use a ~5 weight item just to manually block, without even having a damage component built in, with the item breaking after a few hits (for the lighter shields)
-
the weight of the shield was doubled because a lot of the shielders have worn a spare shield on their backs.

It was always a bad idea to do that regardless.. makes you slow as molasses. No ability do any footwork or maneuver.

It seems that a lot of shielders are upset that their 21/15 builds can't chase archers who are 18/18.
-
Shields are worth the weight. Drop it on the ground if you don't want it mid-battle.

Better yet let all of the ranged projectiles destroy your shield so you don't have to drop it.
Then proceed to get shot :/

Average weight on the upper-tier shields are ~7. Heavier shields are around 9-10, and lighter shields are ~6 (many of the heavier shields are less useful). My gripe with that is that it is close to the weight difference between medium armors and plate. I believe the average weight should be closer to 4, matching some of the heavier weapon weights, instead of carrying great mauls in your left hand. Movement increase when it's on your back and effects from shield skill both make sense to me in their own ways.

I like the sound of a shield skill weight reduction. Something like for every 1 point of shield skill above the requirement you drop 1 weight.
-
I would not be opposed to eliminating the slowdown associated with shields when they are on your back. I kinda want to use a shield myself but as an AGI guy I just can't afford to be slowed down that much when I'm not using my shield.

It's easy to catch archers since they made ammo weigh so much.

On siege lately, the trend is for archers to voluntarily jump to their death rather than engage in melee combat. It's pretty pathetic to observe, especially since they added the really good 0-slot swords.
-
On most siege maps it's doubtful if you need to have both a 2-slot bow and two quivers of arrows anyway; you'll generally be killed and respawn again (with all your ammo) before you actually use them all up. The real reason you feel helpless fighting in melee as an archer is your lack of PS means that all your attacks glance, if you manage to make any.
As to shielders, I don't want to see them buffed any more than they already have been. The pre-upkeep days of battle servers belonging to two handed hero tin cans are long gone.

Hmm, pure archer? 18/18 6ps, 6ath, 6pd grab 50-80 wpf in your chosen melee spec.. & should be good.

I'd personally prefer 0 or maybe 50 at the most WPF in your chosen melee skill. I would prefer to put it all into archery, but I'd def make sure to get as much PS as I could (likely max it out)
