Title: Athletics Vrs Power Strike
Post by: pine on August 06, 2013, 06:43:57 pm
So i plan on using a battle fork mainly next gen and i am debating between going anywhere from 12-30 15-27 and 18-24 at level 33. I was wondering what would give me more damage, the speed bonus of 3 AGI and 1 Athletics and 1 Weaponmaster or the pure damage of 3 STR and 1 PS.

I don't know how the damage numbers would come out, but 18-24 seems like the best option of the 3 you've listed.

8 ATH will be more than enough for you to zip around a fight, and the extra life from strength will let you survive longer in close range murderfork combat.

---

12-30 would be fun for terrorizing archers, but I don't think it would be very good at anything else.

Just my $.02

PS gives most damage, STR only hp. Athletics and Agility are giving no direct speed bonus, maybe a little in certain situation but both are only important for mobility, not damage. WM does increase dmg a little, serach for WAlt4 posts about exact numbers.

I would use light gear with battle fork and get 7 PS minimum, rather 8.

If you're finding it harder to get hits, increase ath. If not, increase your strength. 8ath allows you to catch those backpedalers and avoid getting surrounded. Being faster and much faster than your opponent isn't that much different, so go 15/27 if you just really like the build. 1 wm is like .15 PS and .6 weapon speed, only noticeable when maxed/high.

Same I'd say. Good description btw. Choose 18:24 and good luck!

recently i made a 12-24 STF and 1 shot almost everything. when using the battle fork i like to suprise people by stabbing them from the side or behind or dance out of reach of weapon swings and stab when they whiff. i make sure that when i stab i use the speed bonus so athletics and agility do make a difference.

edit: searched though Waltf4's posts and he has so many that i wasn't able to find one that compared the speed bonus of athletics to the straight damage of PS

I'd switch the amount of agi to str and str to agi, works very "fine" for me

In many situations you just cant use the full speedbonus if you want to get kills.

I'd probably do 21/24 @ level 33 (not sure if you were planning on shield, wm, etc).

Anything between 18/24 and 24/18 for a hoplite imo

STR 18
AGI 24
IF 4

ATH 8
WM 8

Agility spearmen and Str spearmen seem to hit about as hard (speed bonus is king with stabs), but Agi spearmen are much tougher in a duel situation. That build seems perfect to me.

As much as I recommend favoring strength for most melee builds, for a battle fork type of playstyle I would recommend something balanced.

Level 33

70 HP

21 Strength
21 Agility

7 Ironflesh
7 Power Strike
7 Athletics
5 Weapon Master

150 Polearm Proficiency

Agreed ray, I think melee builds should almost always favor more str than agi (24/15 [at 30] is a good "universal" build for melee IMO, I'd probably go with 27/12), but I agree that hoplites and even pikemen are probably better off going balanced build, or maybe a little more agi than str (like 18/21 for example).

21/21 would be a good level 33 build though

For me, every build with less than 8 athletics is unplayable. Booooring!

I recommend having 8 athletics for jumping over the fences.

If you're not a hoplite and will be using a battle fork, try aiming for 21/24 or 24/21. Very high movement speed combined with no more than 1-3 hits (usually) needed to make kills. I'm playing 24/21 with a spetum myself, and I find it great. I also used +3 battle fork a while back, and that build should work very well with one.
