Title: Auction or flat out sell
Post by: Dalfador on August 03, 2013, 10:23:01 pm
If your selling a MW weapon is it better to auction it or put up a trade for gold?

What would you do...? I guess it depends on the item. Thoughts?

I haven't used auction, but I expect auctioning will get you less gold since people will go there looking for bargains. Think you should auction if you aren't too bothered about the gold but just want a guaranteed sale in the time frame

The problem with the action house is that you can't set a time limit (I want to be able to set it to 1-4 hours) and that's why auctioning sucks.

Edit:
Also, it should be possible to end the auction and take the gold by the highest bidder instead of having to wait for it to end.

If these two things were fixed more people would use the auction house since it would make it possible to quickly sell items.

You can set any duration from 1-7 days. 1 day is short enough no?

24 hours is a long time if you want/need gold fast, for a nice offer on the marketplace, for example.
Sure, you could take a loan from someone but wouldn't it be nice if you could put an item on a 1 hour auction instead?

I also believe more people would look at the auctions if they didn't last for so long.

Just list the item abit above what you are willing to sell for.
Then lower the price until someone buys it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_auction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_auction)

This way you get some of the favourable traits of an auction versus "retail".
It will allow for pricediscovery, and capture a "premium" if there is one to be had.
And you do not fall in the trap of getting a price that is lower than your actual sellingprice.

Just make sure many potential buyers are aware that the item is up for sale, and resonable time for people to notice it.

If you flatout just list the items at the lowest price you are willing to sell for you just get pms from people that want it cheaper.
