Hey guys how are you doing?
I'm a pretty new player to the community and had a question about tweaking a specific build. I've played on Native before in the past (a long time ago) and my friends recently got me into CRPG.
One of my friends set me up with a pretty cool 1h/shield - Throwing build that I'm enjoy a lot, but I've wanted to make a tweak to it so that my melee damage was a bit higher.
Let me show you the build my friend gave me:
Level 30
18/18
120 One Hand
117 Throwing
4 IF
6 PS
4 Shield
5 Athletics
4 Power Throw
6 Weapon Master
I find that everything is pretty well balanced, the only exception is that my melee damage feels a bit average or below average at times. Against light targets it takes 2-4 hits, and anything else is usually 4+ using an Iberian Mace.
Therefore my question is, if I were to change the build to a 21/15, drop 1 from Weapon Master, lower my throwing from 117 to 102, and increase my PS from 6 to 7, would I see a big difference in my melee damage?
TLDR: Does going from 6 to 7 power strike increase melee damage substantially?

I think you better take more power throw regardless of 21/15 or 18/18 build.
Some people prefere to sacrifise weapon master for power strike or power throw (or even Iron Flesh)
I personally use no IF but max out weapon master.
Also I'm not really a good thrower guide, so better listen to some other players, but have one advice:
Make a Skip The Fun alternative character and try out any build around these ones.
(you can do that by respeccing stf chars, which is completely free with no exp. penalties)

This, best way is to just test it and see for yourself. IMO your build currently is fine, maybe a little too much throwing wpf for only 4 power throw. Could probably have gone 5 or 6 pt with that much throwing and pick up pretty much anything on the battlefield, but that really depends on how much armor you wear.

Most important: max out your athletics. And yes, 1 more PS helps quite a lot, but you could also consider using military cleaver which is much better against low-medium armored chars. IF is rather secondary skill, helpful, but firstly you should go for other skills.

Unless you got riding skill you should always maximize athletics.

As others have said....always, always, ALWAYS max athletics.
Honestly, the real secret to doing damage with 1h is held attacks and speed bonus. A perfectly held attack increases your damage by 25%. That's more than a 3 PS increase. Speed bonus also scales better than PS. Since 1h has low initial damage, they don't gain as much damage from raw PS increases as 2h and poles do.
As long as you do enough damage to not glance, you can mess people up with 1h. An 18/18 build with a warhammer is pretty brutal. Once you get better at the game, you can REALLY mess people up with a 13/24 military hammer build. 1h builds benefit from increased agi more than 2h/pole due to shield weight and speed bonus giving higher bonuses to damage than straight PS.
