Greetings. Been trying quite a bit now, having gotten to level 28 and 124wpf in Polearms (going polearms/throwing hybrid), but I still can't see why I would want to stick with my Long Axe.
It's slower than most 2h weapons, has mediocre reach at best, and its only special bonus is to crack shields, which most of the times means 8+ attacks to get through a Huscarl's Round Shield
Is there ANY reason to stick with this weapon instead of Long Hafted Blade, Glaive, Poleaxe, Great Long Bardiche, or some 2h sword (assuming retirement to 2h weapon skill instead of polearms)?
Or is it that I'm hybrid that gets me so far after that no kind of weapon would save me, because I don't have a gazillion wpf in polearms, and that I'm a retard for not playing something that's not ultra-min-maxed to the point of near attempting to break the game?

Get a Great long Axe, if you don't have that already.
If not then you should try the other lame weapons people use.

are u using 2h axe or polearm axe ? have u got wpf in 2h?

Wait, you suck with 124 wpf in polearms and long axe :rolleyes:
You need to practice, long axes are one of the top choices for skilled played today. It's awesome and nearly op. Just l2p.

So much choices for lame backpedallers.

Suppose I might need more practice, but I still don't really see how I'm supposed to out-duel anything. The axe *rocks* as support weapon, when fighting in larger melees, but in a duel I cannot keep up with any single weapon I've encountered yet. At best I'm left out to blocking, blocking, and more blocking, without being able to attack back.

Yeah, you need to practice your footwork. Being able to stay out of range, then dance in for a strike or two and then get back out. That or learn how to chamber block...

Axes are decent weapons, but like anything else has its pro's and cons.
Some things to consider.
Pros
-Bonus to shield's (obvious)
-High damage
-Weight (Many people don't know the benefits of a weapons weight. For instance stun locking your opponent so that he has to block twice in a row. If his weapons weight is lower than yours)
Cons
-Reach (cav will eat you)
-Unbalanced (some are and some aren't)
-Speed (with a proper meele build most axes are fast enough to be spam proof)

Take a look at the GLA and say that again :rolleyes:

GLAs are slow, unless you go 18/21 and spam

I use the GLA as my main weapon right now, and with 152 wpf atm. I've dueled plenty of staff or war spear ppl and have yet to truly be spammed. Only people I can think of is Tydeus and Cyranule that can sneak another side swing in and both have mw weapons.

I'm still pretty much a newb but I prefer the Great Long Bardiche over the Great Long Axe. The axe has 4 more speed but the Bardiche has 30 more length (along with also having the bonus to shields). I'm amazed by how many random kills I get against people who don't expect such a long range when they look at it.
You do have to be careful with the sideswings from this monster while teamates are around though. :oops:
My other favorite polearm has to be the Pike. Not only can you use it at a pretty early level but it is an amazing support weapon. It's another weapon, like the bardiche, that gets kills because people don't expect the range but to an even greater extent. The only problem is when you get in a 1v1 and they run up in your face. I haven't mastered the whole groundstab spin thing yet but I'm working on it.
Personally I think polearms are more fun and versatile than 2-handers so maybe you should try out some of the other types before making the switch to Boringsville (greatswords).

i prefer 2h for skillful duels/manual blocking though. Polearms set me to autoattack mode
