Title: Steam trading cards
Post by: AntiBlitz on July 31, 2013, 01:20:05 am
So erhm idk where this exactly belongs, but may i have your trading cards if you arent doing anything with them????  I seem to have this urge to want to collect them all like some sort of weird addict.  I would be willing to of course trade for some things if that is what you wanted to do.  However i'd greatly appreciate any help anyone would be willing to give me in collecting them.  Im sure that there are some of you that have no interest in them whatsoever so i figured id atleast try and ask.

Note to everyone: You can sell them for money which you can use again to buy steam games or ingame stuff (ie. for dota 2 or whatever).

I sold some cards and made easy 5€. :P

If you collect a whole set of cards, its even easier money. And you can collect every card again by playing.

I would be willing to trade doubles. I have a few from Brütal Legend and the Summer Sale.

I've looked at nearly every game that has cards, and almost 90% of the games are selling the cards on the market for a profit of .12 cents(in beta cards were selling for a ton, but since the release of this to the public the prices have shot into the ground).  Thats it, lets say you have as many games with cards as i do( i own 20 games which have cards), which means i was given a total of 84 cards possible to sell, if i actually play all 20 games to receive them all.  Each card selling for say averaging .14 cents, which steam takes .2 cents of anyways will leave you with a grand total of $10.00 give or take probably a couple of dollars.  Considering that some of the cards sell for as little as .09( which dont forget steam takes their .2 cents) can vary the money you could earn above.

Also these cards do not ever return, you cannot earn more of them, unless you are granted a booster pack, giving you a whopping 3 cards, which can be sold for .36 cents or so, unless you sell the booster itself making a dollar.  However the chances of receiving a booster is next to shit, as you must have a incredibly high steam level(level 50) to actually make these on a good basis.

TL;DR  Either way, you arent goin to be quiting your day job to make a living selling steam cards, and your goin to make like .30 cents, can i have your cards, or trade for em?

So let me get this straight.. you can make .14  cents, which equals .0014 dollars, by trading 1 card. Then steam takes .2 cents out of that... meaning that you will then owe steam .0006 dollars for each card sold.. and yet you can end up with 10 bucks? Tell me how you do it!

what shit? emoticons? and backgrounds? you arent goin to be rolling in pennies selling backgrounds.  And the 3 possible items it gives you for crafting is completely outweighed by the up to 15 cards it may take to craft a badge.

I sold a duck emoticon for 1 buck net profit.

Took me 8 cards to do. Also, selling booster packs is better than opening them. Chance to get foil cards not worth the lost profit.
Also, if you craft the badge, you can get a discount coupon as well or at least you were supposed to.

After weeks of farming and harvesting these cards, I've sold enough to buy the Honest Hearts DLC for Fallout New Vegas.

Time to make all of my lazy friends give me their cards!

i just gave up, after literally taking weeks to get together a dollar or two, id sit on the pc for about an hour a day playing cards like the fucking stock market, just so that i could collect them all.  In the end, i figured it was worthless, since it takes you selling about 12 cards to purchase 1 card, which takes forever, not to mention, steam now thinks im making a living off of selling cards and asked for my tax information.

Man, fuck playing the marketplace, I just get them from friends or slowly collect them from playing games (latest addition was the four or so I got from Payday 2) and then sell them at their average / slightly below average.

Three weeks later, I bought a $5 dlc pack, not bad for minimal effort.

I sold all I got [bought games, and paid rest by paypal = IMO, thats better way to use these cards for], but after some of my other games received cards, I started to collect them. Most likely will get rid of them once I have a few. Badges are useless, entire "steam profile level" is dumb too. You can just buy everything anyway, there are people that have over 160 level.

I at the moment have 0 game badges, though I have some badges that were introduced earlier. You got them for doing things.

I have 64 game on my Steam - 3 free to play, that makes 61 games. 12 has cards. I hope they will add them to the rest too. Imagine how many Euros can I earn by selling them :P.

I systematically sell cards I already own, but I don't play games that give cards all that much. 48 cents motherfucker !

I've earned a few euros with the cards, but also made a few badges (level 15). Quite a few of my games have the cards and they usually go from 0,04€ to about 0,11€ per card (that is after the tax has been applied). I was also lucky and received 2 foil cards so far and 3 boosters (random pack with 3 cards). Foiled cards can even go for 0,50€ per card :)

Guys, you should try Dota 2. Selling in-game chests could make you richer than Panos  :o

You must get some crappy cards. I've sold dozens in the $0.20+ range (0.15 Euro) and a foil card for $1.80 (1.35 Euro). I craft badges too, and some of the emotes/backgrounds go for a good price too. Plus, I got a 90% off coupon for a $30 game I wanted, so I count that one being worth $27.

Just send me your cards Anti, they seem to be causing you too much distress. Also:

I seem to have this urge to want to collect them all like some sort of weird addict.

I seem to suffer from this addiction as well :c Well, when they first came out I did, i even bought some on the marketplace and got my totally-arbitrary steam level up to 12, but then I got tired of it and stopped

Haven't bought or sell any cards yet.

But i'm interested in getting some specific badges, for the games that i really appreciated. Sort of showing my thanks for this game.

But i don't even know how trading cards or other items works in steam... so i'll probably buy the few ones i need, by selling the ones i got from "average" games.
