Title: I am a bit jaded right now, any exciting games on the horizon?
Post by: zagibu on July 31, 2013, 12:37:03 am
Hey guys. I recently played a few games on my steam backlist, but although most of them were pretty good, they felt like I've played them before. Take Dishonored, for example. It's really well made, and in theory, there is a lot to like about the game, but it felt like Deus Ex, Thief and Bioshock during large parts. Or Path of Exile, which is a really well made Diablo 2 clone, but it's unfortunately not more.

I am looking for something innovative, something that wasn't done before, or hasn't been done in a while. If nothing is suggested, I'll probably go back to Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft and cRPG.

I'm besides waiting for EU4, on 13th of August on Steam.

Otherwise I'm just playing crpg, LotRO, Euro Truck Simulator 2, dota 2 and a browsergame (http://en.ikariam.com/ ).

Try might and magic series, even might and magic clash of heroes is nice if you like strategic rpg games.

Wow, this looks pretty good, thanks a lot.

It's already a game, but in a really shitty web based engine that they are remaking. Its actually maintained and run by goons (LLJK/Somethingawful members) and its one of the craziest games out there. If you like weird esoteric games with tons of depth and a massive potential to grief (which is pretty much the point of the game) check out the current version.

I recommend the LLJK servers, for the full experience. Enjoy being beaten with toolboxes, raped, executed, filled with horrible drugs, drinking yourself to death in the bar, being spaced, blowing up the station/releasing a horrible plague from the chem lab, etc.

Have been playing Kerbal Space Program since Monday, and it seems to be fun so far. If you like Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft, the nerdiness of KSP should not intimidate you.

So far i am very satisfied, but since it lacks any sort of progression, i might get bored quickly. Basically you set your own goals, build a spaceship, a shuttle, a station, or a vehicle from a wide range of parts, and try to come back on Kerbin/Homeworld in one piece :) There are many, many mods available, and the game's community seems to be very active.

It is certainly a different kind of game, unique in many ways. The engineering part is where it truly shines, in my opinion :) Simple, yet unrestricted in many ways. I will try to build a giant rocket propelled pterodactyl replica later this week, and land on the Mün. But i need to master shuttle construction, and it seems to be more complex, compared to a simple rocket-type spacecrafts.

Anyway, Kerbal Space Program might be something to consider.

a few unique ones I can recall

Trouble in Terrorist Town (need HL2 + CSS)
seconding Space Station 13
Zombie Panic Source (great zombie pvp game - one team zombies, one team humans, need a Source game)
Panzar: Forged by Chaos (somewhat interesting combat)
UnRealWorld (survival game)
www.bloc.name (new-ish geopolitics browser game)
www.quidditch-manager.com (football manager, but with quidditch lol, browser based)
www.die2nite.com (zombie times - survive in a town with other people, browser based) - from the same guys mush.twinoid.com (not yet released, somewhat similar to space station 13)

Samurai Warriors 2 for the PC - nothing really unique, i guess, but it has a ton of content to play through and combines third person hacknslash, lightly grindy RPG and some strategy even in a nice mix. If you get into it, it's fun for a pretty long time :)
