Title: Decent and low up-keep gear for 1h cav? (solved)
Post by: Chosen1 on July 30, 2013, 09:26:23 am
Hello, my main is currently 1h/shield cav, and I'm having trouble keeping my gear upkeep low while actually being able to take hits and do damage. What are your recommendations for a horse, and what type of armour (light/heavy), and which sword/shield do you recommend?

Here's my stuff:

With my current equipment, I need a constant 5x to make money with upkeep :C

edit:

Here is the equipment I chose:

Rouncey could cut costs for horse repair. It's the best low-tier horse in most peoples' opinion. Steppe horse isn't bad for hilly maps or ones with lots of small corridors.

You might be able to cheap out for a different sword, but the arming sword's length is nice on horseback.  Long arming sword or bastard/heavy bastard sword are cheaper but you will lose some oomph. The bastard swords are definately worse on foot, where the swing speed penalty will hurt more.

You have an expensive body armor. Maybe when you join the server you could play with lower body armor or no horse until you hit a higher multiplier? That helps a lot if your favored item load is expensive.

change armor ,it is important to have good foot armor as horseman , i suggest Heraldic Mail with Surcoat or any other  surcoat over mail, as for horse you should probably use rouncey as palfrey is total shit compared to anything ( might as well use donkey :D )i would also recomend a bit better foot armor . You could use scimitar on horseback because it has nice speed and lenght and ofcourse damage, excelent sword overall. Hand and head armor doesnt realy matter, just take something medium as for shield youa re using pretty good shield. Thats about it.

Use arabian cavalry sword, it's both cheaper and got longer reach.

You have excellent choice in gear, but you're right, it is on the tad expensive side. As latvian was saying, you need better foot armor. You can sacrifice some body armor for it, im assuming. I don't think you want to use heraldic though otherwise you would probably already be using it. based on your taste in gear I've tried to find you cheaper look-a-likes more suitable for your pricing range.

You don't need good head armor, you'll rarely get hit in the head and you have a shield to defend against ranged attacks.

This was the closest thing I could find to look like the armor you're using, or you could just use the sarranid mail shirt if you like the sarranid stuff.

The boots are important because you will be hit in the legs a lot as a horseman. These fit the sarranid theme and provide 39 leg armor including the body armor i reccomended.

If you're new to the game and low on money use a rouncey. It's a good starter horse and if you ever sell a loompoint or have money you can get a better horse. When you get lucky you could upgrade to the palfrey that you already own.

I'd downgrade to the long arming sword. Same length, one less cut damage. A lot cheaper. Same pierce damage.

The shield you're using is great.

The gear I've just listed adds up to 24,083 denars. Your gear adds up to 34,938 denars. The gear I have showed you is 10,855 denars cheaper.

You should use heavier leg armor. Either that or use lighter body armor.
Furthermore your head armor is too weak relative to your body armor.

But since you want less upkeep I suggest you use lighter body armor.
You can still use some heavier leg armor though, since it's actually quite cheap.

The Horse I would choose If I would've less money etc would be a Rouncey. Nearly all stats are okay.
Your shield is great imo; the sword toi expensive. Use as already said a long arming or a arabian cavalry sword. Leg armor too bad, get good one with at least 35 leg armor and your head armor is too heavy xD u dont rly need good head armor. Your body armor is expensive, get maybe the skutatos or the cavalry robes.
Hope I could help You and good luck.
BTW: Dont use heavy armor or horse every round.
