So, I looking at the stats of a german poleaxe reveals that it deals 42 cut damage normally on a swing. Thats very nice, very good damage.
But then you look at the secondary mode. 28 pierce damage. Better at penetrating armor you say? Yet at medium armor and up your always going to deal roughly 30% less damage than the cut side.
So basically, no matter how much armor the enemy has, the secondary mode is for looks, it has no practical use at all other than handicapping yourself.
I propose that the pierce side gets buffed into usefulness, so it isn't so damn inferior in all situations. The pierce side could lose bonus vs shields as a tradeoff.
And if you don't believe my fact that the pierce side is useless use the calculator prove it to yourself. http://alpha-lider19.ru/MB/

I agree. The alternate mode on the German poleaxe is completely useless.

Pierce and blunt deal more bonus damage to the head than cut.

Don't think so.
The damage calculators are not very accurate with the ingame situation anymore, but I nevertheless agree. The other poleaxes have pretty useful secondary modes and the German does not. I think it should get a secondary mode which makes the pierce attack almost as effective as the 45c swing.

They can't really increase it or else it will make the bec useless.
-
Bec has 34p
German Poleaxe has 28p
We're not talking about +10 damage to the german poleaxe. More like +2. Bec would still have superior damage. While german poleaxe's secondary more would get slightly better against players with 70+ body armor when compared to it's primary mode.
+ now that I've started to use a german poleaxe, I'd really like to see it get buffed a bit
-
What I mean is you can't really compare 45c vs 30p or even 35p the cut will win out just because it's number is a lot larger. So you will still find pierce on the german poleaxe lack luster.
-
Fun fact, a +3 German Poleaxe will do pretty much the same damage vs 76 body armour at 7 PS as a +3 Bec does.
-
well the other poleaxe secondary modes lose speed while the german does not
-
Does Bec gain knockdown when used in secondary mode like the elegant poleaxe?
-
Yes.
-
The problem is that high cut damage+high power strike is too effective against even the highest armor. Why take a Bec when you can do more damage to everyone (and break shields) with a Great Long Axe or similar?
The dedicated pierce weapons and secondary modes will never have much of a purpose until the soak/reduce formulas are changed so that heavy armor better mitigates high cut damage.
-
Yes.
Thx. Just tried it. It knocksdown a lot

Not too long ago they made a lot of weapons (1h's at least) secondary modes (which typically went from cut to pierce) actually be useful, since before they improved them, the pierce/blunt alternatives were so low in damage dealt, it didn't make sense to use them even against heavily armored foes.
If this wasn't done to the German poleaxe or other poleaxes, it should be.

I love my German Poleaxe as it is, but some more pierce damage would be fantastic.
