Title: Pagan / Folk Metal (Another Music Thread by Arty!)
Post by: Artyem on July 18, 2013, 06:44:52 am
I've been turned on to some pagan / folk metal recently by my Norwegian friend, and have slowly been discovering it myself. I'm hoping that since most of you Europeans love the shit that you can recommend the best of it to me.
Already been listening to:

Amorphis I tried, but it wasn't really my cup of tea. I love Ensiferum and Bucovina because most of their songs are very... medieval. Good stuff to listen to when the commander of a strat battle gets too loud and you just want to bash skulls.
So, please, Europeans and others, post your links here!

Best Latvia has to offer, Skyforger. Most of their songs are about pagan gods and warfare; they also play traditional Latvian folk songs and metal covers, and that is kinda badass if you ask me.
my favourite

Thanks man! I'll give em a listen.
Of course the first bands I jumped on were Finnish (heritage) and Romanian (clan was somewhat based off of Wallachia at one point).

Thanks! I'll give em all a listen when I get the chance.

Nothing wrong with that, I personally enjoy a wide variety of sounds and music. Worn out by the casual, standard American metal (Metallica, is a good example) that is quite often over played, I find music from other parts of the world much more interesting.
When I was 13 I somehow found the band 'Bullet for my Valentine' enjoyable, now it just makes me sick.

Eluveitie, Korpiklaani, Wintersun, Kivimetsan Druidi (latest album) and as a special recommendation I offer you Orphaned Land, even if they're nowhere near pagan stuff ;-)
Not all of this is necessarily Viking/Pagan/Folk stuff but it's great stuff after all :-)
