Title: A small buff for Throwing
Post by: Fluffy_Muffin on May 09, 2011, 04:11:11 pm
Hello, i was thinking about how the ammo nerf for throwing was a bit of a overkill so i thought how it would be cool if you could pick up trowing wepons off of dead bodies.

I dont think that would be too unrealistic as far as throwing weapons are concerned and it would be realy cool feeling to pick up an axe from a dead guys skull.  :)

The question remains: Can it be coded? And what do you guys think about this?

No. Just no.

And why not?

Shields. How would you do that with shields?

And why not?

Throwing was OP and even though it received a nerf, it's still annoying, skillless weapon.

No need for buffing.

The ammo for throwing was already small to make it smaller from before just doesn't help at all. Also throwing is good to get people started off in the game

I've played with Pebble_Pusher today again, the slow throwing speed on throwing daggers and other low cost throwing weapons is just ridiculous and needs fixing imo.

This is something that should have been in the game by default (Native, not cRPG), but I think it doesn't work with the engine, sadly. Otherwise I would love to see this ingame. No more throwers standing behind spamming lances/javelins/axes (like it was pre-patch) nor the throw three axes and run around to find melee weapon. They would then be rewarded by rushing into the fray, throwing at the enemy, and then if they survived the fight, be able to restock and continue fighting.

This also reminds me of a fight I had with a thrower. I spawned a bit late with my horse, tried to go around the enemy and attack from behind. Then I see a dude with throwing lances who must have spawned late too. I then have a fight against him where whenever I try tog et him he readies a shot, i dodge, he miss and I miss (cause of the dodge) and he has this desperate run to pick it up while I try to rush him before he can. Since he only have 2 in the stacks and didn't have a backup weapon, he had to keep the last one on him and in melee mode to block me. It was really fun and it lasted quite while, me dodging his throws and him blocking when I tried desperate rush (had to turn so fast I couldn't couch). This was probably the most fun duel I have had on a battle server ever :D

I think that the assumption is that projectiles are destroyed when they hit a player. Yet, stone walls preserve them perfectly fine. I... guess...

The engine can't handle "pickable" items attached to entities. The ones on stone walls are actually static, if you moved the stone wall they would stay there, floating in mid-air.

Alright, well, it could just keep track (somehow) of all the projectiles stuck in someone's body, then drop new projectiles that people can pick up once he dies. It would look weird, but it would work. I don't know if you can just spawn individual weapons like that though.

(It would be cool to grab at an axe in someone's shoulder and rip it out of them though... hehehe)

I'm against this actually. You ever tried to remove an axe from wood? Ever get an axe buried really deep into wood? It takes quite a bit of time to remove sometimes. Now, I've never actually tried this, as I'm not an axe murder, but I imagine it would be more difficult to remove from bone.

I'd like to see throwing being able to be picked up from off the ground, but not stone walls, but the game engine wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two.

Throwing does need a buff, but it should be done in a different way.

The latest patch just rendered another throwing weapon pretty much useless.

Javelins are now 2 slot items.

While I accept that PT 10 and Throwing Lances both needed changed this is just getting rediculous.

That is now 4 weapons rendered all but pointless, Javelins, Throwing Spears, Jarids and the Throwing Lance.

Why would you take any of these, 4 3 and 1 ammo each, when you can take 14 (FOURTEEN) Throwing Darts for the same number of slots?

Javalry is dead, they were one of the few interesting builds to counter Horse Archers, they were always weaker than HAs but it was a fun match up.

Just noticed that Wardarts aswell have been reduced to 4 per stack.

So that is EVERY throwing weapon with any range to them been rendered totally useless for dealing with, well pretty much anything.

When it takes half of your ammo to MAYBE bring down a single courser there's just no point.

I always hated throwing, but I see no reason in nurfing them as much as they are now. There aren't really any throwers left.
