Title: The "Pole Nudge"
Post by: Palurgee on July 15, 2013, 10:35:52 pm
Polearms are weapons designed to keep enemies at a distance. In cRPG, a player needs only block once to come within striking range of a polearm user; from then on the effectiveness of the polearm decreases as it has lost the reach advantage (it is worth noting that this advantage is very small with the current 2h thrust animation). I had an idea while watching the right and left swing animations of the Elegant Poleaxe.

Here are two pictures of the Elegant Poleaxe while holding a left-to-right swing:

As you can see, the poleaxe has a blade on the end, that will arc in front of the player before the actual blade comes around. Here is an annotated picture of two pictures laid over each other -- one is the prep swing, and the other is mid swing.

This arc is just long enough to contact any player who is facehugging the polearm user. My suggestion: Any player that is contacted by this arc will be lightly nudged. The nudge is light enough that the nudged player will have time to bring up a block again, but they will have to be quick (or have a very lightweight shield).

This could also be possible with the overhead polearm attack:

EDIT: you guys are right, this suggestion would make polearms way OP. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Add a poll so I can vote no.

Most players will have their block ready before the swing is released. If there is a "auto nudge" on every side and overhead swing. Forcing all opponents to re-do their block right before the actual swing even contacts them sounds absurdly overpowered. And the reaction time would probably be too short for players with 100+ pings to be able to regain their blocks at all.

From what I've seen, skilled polearm users have little trouble combating opponents who get inside their effective range - less trouble than the actual physics of those weapons would suggest they should have.

Reminds me of a muay thai striking combination where you throw a hook (say a right hook) and if you miss you keep spinning counter-clockwise with your momentum and follow up with a spinning left elbow.

I do think that this would be too overpowered however...put up a poll.

Also, s-key is all you need to know as a polearm user :D

This is all provided that they are facehugging, if the player keeps his/her distance from the polearm, he/she won't have any problems with the nudge. Also, how do I add a poll?

Have Tanken or Sauce show you the jump-spin-stab.

What I do with any absurdly long weapons is lunge in then back pedal till they are fairly close then step forward and kick them followed by jumping back and glancing then you repeat the process till a teammate stabs him in the back.

Kicks already provide a way to punish that. Long weapons do not need another way to keep people at range.

to use a nudge with pole arms simply face hug victim do a block and press V.

you can also just punch the enemy in the face by just pressing V.

use it on crowded doorways and especially after sneaking up on a archer, try pushing people off edges...

correct, isnt that the thing this game fails at the most to recreate?

as a polearm user i dont find it that hard to get out of an attackers bum rush, as long as you are constantly moving and going in the right direction.

I think this is a good idea. Adds realism. It is like the 2h hilt smash
