Title: what to do with 10k troops? community strat battles?

so at some point I was attacked as a lone trader by some clan, and decided to let them be on the receiving end of the "because I can" mentality they showed by attacking a free trader outside of their territory and fucking up 1 month of troop gathering, striking deals and trading. I quickly realized that I dont give enough of a fuck, and rly cant be assed to go on a one man war while its summer, great weather and having generally more things going on of greater interest.

so now i am asking for your ideas: what to do with just short of 10k shiny troops?

I wont be giving them away to attack random clans, because most have shown me their hospitality when my caravan was roaming calradia.

Im thinking of either attacking my own troops and doing some sort of fun battles, theme battles, free for all battles (low levels, aussies, chinese, everyone no matter what ping or level)
or doing the same but attacking someone else, which would result in more "free for all" battles.

any other ideas are welcome, post away.

At the same time, this would be rather separate from the Nerd Wars of Strategus. It would be cooler if you used your army to spice things up in the Strat political scene. Attacking a faction out of the blue, for example, would certainly cause fun times to be had. You could use the idea from some other thread, and with the help of a few other nerds pretend to be the bad guys from the song of nerds and ice, invading a faction's territory from the north. You could use 6, 1.5k armies, which would doubtless all fail to capture fiefs... 6 battles, though. Perhaps you could see if anyone else would contribute soldiers to the cause, hmm?

The problem, in any case other than a few organized battles, is that 10k troops is nothing--at least, in EU. It's not enough to make any big ripples in the murky waters (piss and mountain dew) of the Strat scene. Not unless you time things well.

Alas the cruel gods did not give NA side a Fisdar. Maybe if we liberate it we can convince the gods to transport it to NA?

Otherwise I'd send out 1.5k shiny armies and start picking off other large armies in the open field.

something like a 300 scenario maybe? 1.6k vs 1.4k, one side having all sorts of troops, others only hoplites+ their team is only allowed to field 30 people at a time.

could also do a peasant riot: 2k peasants with loomed light gear vs 800 plated knights : )

If you want LOOMED peasent gear: I have +1 red Tunics, +2 Stones, and +1 old round sheilds at my castle.

2k peasant vs 800 knight would be an easy battle. The knights will just easily cap down flags in first 10 min.

You can try doing something historic maybe.

well a themed battle might have other objectives then caping flags :D

I mean, you can not guarentee that things will not go out of control. You only have one shot, so think of this aspect as well.

Come to NA, we follow our gentleman's agreements :wink:, just look at gmnotutuo's Super Kawaii Desu Desu Japanese Schoolgirl Ninja Death Squad attack - one fo them we even agreed on both sides to not cap flags and both side kept to the agreement.

So tell me what happens when one side push to the enemy flags? Will they say "Oh. We pushed to the flags. I think we must give them a chance to recover. Lets retreat like a gentlemen so they can spawn again."? Would you personally miss the opportunity of stabbing the poor guy just spawned in front of you?

Just think of the way how an avarage crpg player behaves and then realize half of them are behaving even worse than that.

there have often been battles with mutually agreed boarder lines. in strat 2 or three when uif had all of the map, they did lots of friendly battles with siege shields a few meters in front of the flags that were boarders not to be crossed.

and yes: i detest spawnraping and would personally refrain from doing so, especially if a gentleman's agreement is at hand. and I know many would.

I also like that you are prepared to use your own troops and gear for the community to have some fun and earn some EXP.

In the spirit of doing something for the community, Heskey and I would like to offer the use of our fief for a battle (or several).

I am the owner of Burglen, I don't know if you are familiar with the map but it has a village on top of a small hill with 3 points of entrance (center, left and right) and the attackers spawn on a hill with a small valley between.

Due to the valley and the 3 points of entrance which bottle neck the enemy it makes shield walls very effective which would work with the 300 idea.

Terms and conditions would be on the lines of - we will put Burglen to just population with no gold or equipment.. you can then ever take over burglen for the purposes of the battle or just send Burglen the men (gold for troop upkeep) and gear and attack it yourself (or who ever you want to). Once the battle (or battles if you want several) are done, you return Burglen (if we are not currently in ownership) back in the state we left it (0 army, 300 pop, no gold or equipment). (and of course things like don't use/change any of the PP etc)

But a more formal contract can be arranged when/if you wish to use Burglen for the purposes of community strat battles :D

Make a train of army's with a load of goods on them, arm them all in sushi armor and walk around the map with it :P
Try to make the big blocks leave you alone, and let the smaller clans try to win your goods :P
