Just a quick, stupid question.
As a low-medium performing player who wants to get involved in strat battles, how much gold should I ask for on my application to a battle?

None. Most people will give you a little gold if they feel like it. Asking like 100 gold isn't bad, but there's really no point.

I was actually thinking to ask for about 69 myself if the average was 100ish

Yeah pretty much just pick a number and go with it, that's my strategy. Most people won't pay anyhow, and anything they could pay is small potatoes compared to what you could earn very easily on the map.

Asking for 69 gold is the way to go.
Asking for 420 gold is also acceptable.
The faction you're fighting for is not forced to pay you the amount you request, anyway. Really the only use is for Anders to request gold and for people to put up funny numbers.

Most of my rosters (50 players) i get 48 players that ask 0, a guy that asks 1 gold, and a troll that requests 1000-1000.000.
So far i haven't payed a single player for a stratbattle. They are happy they get to be accepted and earn massive xp.

Like I said, that's EU. A large portion of NA players prefer to ask for random golds(like 69, 420, 81, and random values for either clan, fun or whatever). Some(probably just me) ask for set amounts as a token(I ask 100 each battle just to show up, and it isn't much), and most clans pay that token fee and others pay much more(up to 1000g or sometimes crpg money if it's offered up ahead of time).

Yeah we are going to be paying out for a lot of these chaos battles pretty soon once we get things settled.

Strat really is just a means of grinding if you dont lead any factions or w/e it's all about dat XP mang

I started doing this a while ago. Then lots of other people started doing it, and it got weird for a while. So, I stopped, as did the hot, sweaty 69 lovin'.

With the current mercenary system there's indeed no point in asking gold for participating, since you don't lose anything while getting shitloads of exp.
If you had to move your strat character in order to participate in certain battle (I know it would suck, but just as an example) or had to pay the upkeep for the gear you use there or anything else - then people would probably demand some gold for being a mercenary.

ask for an insanely high pay (~~100k), so that they will think to themselves "Wow!! this guy's asking for a lot of money he must be awesome!!"
and then you'll definitely get accepted for battles.
