Title: The last of us
Post by: FRANK_THE_TANK on June 16, 2013, 03:52:26 am
Simply the best game I have ever played.

I've never been more heavily invested in the charcters in a game or wanted to get to the next chunk of dialog or cut scene so much! HOLY MOTHER OF PEARL THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME!

Also the opening sequence is hands down the greatest opening sequence in gaming history. Not for it's grandeur, or it's awe, it's just so tight and engaging. I was grinding my teeth sitting in my room with the lights off and my headphones cranked up, fuck me it's so good!!!

I dont own a PS3 but this game makes me wish I did.

Watched a let´s play of it (Well, the first two episodes since it´s so new) - the introduction level alone is so fabulous, I´ve never before seen something like that in a game.THe players in the lets play were also all like "wow" the whole time :D

Another nextgen QTE linear popamole with shitty gameplay or is it something actually playable for a change?

Nevermind, realized it's also PS3 only.

Fucking great game. Planned on renting it, ended up checking like 6 different stores, all out of it. Ended up just buying it. 60$ well spent. Pretty sure we have the game of the year right here. It is simply awesome. Never have I wanted my friends to play a game just so we could share the experience as much as I have with this game. Just too good not to play it.

Also the opening sequence is hands down the greatest opening sequence in gaming history. Not for it's grandeur, or it's awe, it's just so tight and engaging. I was grinding my teeth sitting in my room with the lights off and my headphones cranked up, fuck me it's so good!!!

Yeah the opening sequence is done so well. The attention to details, especially just the way she walks due to being sleepy....I was blown away. And when it cuts to black and just shows "The Last of Us" I was literally staring at my screen with my jaw hanging open just blown away.

So is this a game you can just watch a lets play of and get the same experience or is there any gameplay to it?

I am in chapter 4, so it might be different later on. But so far, i would describe the gameplay, as a mix of Max Payne 3, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Dead Island. Might be the game engine, but it really feels like a Rock-Star game for some reason :) I would not say that "The last of us" is superior, or even equal to the above mentioned games - but I dare to compare them anyway! I am happy so far, might change my opinion later, but it was definitely worth MY money. No regrets here! Cut-scenes are almost as good as "Walking Dead" and "Hard Rain" :)

Saw my bro yesterday and he had already played through the game once (20 hours) and said it was a great story and had him invested into the characters.  He said he felt "rushed" the first time and wanted to play through again to do a lot more exploring.  He said it was an artificial "rushed", as in they keep trying to push you forward, but you really can just ignore it and search away.  He also said he wished it was a little less linear and more open world, but he still really liked it.

He said the multiplayer was mostly just filler and wasn't that great (basically 4v4 battle mode like crpg, or a team deathmatch mode).

I was planning on getting it, but I'll probably wait a couple months and get it for half off, I can't justify paying $60 for a 20 hour single player game (even though money ain't a thang)

yes

Idk about that. You can get a decent experience from watching a stream, but the gameplay itself is amazing. I'd definitely recommend actually playing it. Definitely worth the money.

I haven't purchased a game for full price in what must be over a year now, even longer if we're talking consoles. I was really iffy about this as I tend to avoid full price games, but after seeing perfect score after perfect score from every reviewer, and the gameplay, I caved in. And I can say with full confidence it was 60$ well spent. The experience is amazing, I definitely see myself replaying the story, and the multiplayer is pretty fun, a nice unique idea behind it. And if they consistently update it I'll definitely continue playing it.  :D

It's just one of those games where regardless of the amount of time you spend on it, the experience of playing through it is just so good that it's worth the money. And the single-player is a rather good length for games these days. (15-20 hours if you explore, and it's pretty hard to resist the temptation of doing so)

Yeah the theme is really nice. Not sure if you've played it, but the intro and buildup and then when you finish the intro and it just shows "The Last of Us" and this theme starts playing, well goddamn. That has to be one of the most memorable experiences I've ever had in a video game. Definitely an experience I will look back on for years.

Have to give it up for the cutscenes in this game, the character details, namely the faces, with muscles, lip sync, movements, quite remarkable work.

good choice, paying 60€$£ for 15 hours singleplayer is a rip off .

Well most likely you'd play through it more than once, pretty damn tempting to do so, especially with new game plus. Plus there's multiplayer. Plus I really don't mind paying full price for a game if it's this well done, I do enjoy supporting the developers if they do this great of a job. Plus I know even after I'm through with it for now, it's definitely a game I'll go back and replay later on! Not to mention, 15-20 hours is actually pretty damn good length for a single player game these days.

But on the other hand I can understand where you're coming from, I generally don't ever buy anything full price, this is the first game I've bought full price in over a year, and thankfully, it was more than worth it!

EDIT: That's a lot of "plus". My apologies for the redundancy.

As far a i know there is nothing new added on playing it second time, maybe i would play it twice if there was something new added to the second play, like on metro or something.

And for the multiplayer, it will probably suck like the new Lara croft game's mp.

Just finished it, had a blast playing through, well worth my money.  8-)

Somewhat open for a sequel, not too sure though..

Unfortunately i've payed 60€ for worse things (Twisted metal, what a disapointment), I dont know why i dont want to get this game though, just not tempting. The zombie concept is getting pretty boring IMO, and i prefer having a game with multiplayer on console.

it is a matter of taste, of cause, but MP games on a console... :) what a chore it is, to play using a controller - feels like playing football on one leg. You can, sure, but why would you?.. I do the exactly opposite, only buy console games for single player, that looks good on a big screen. Dark Souls, Max Payne, Heavy Rain, La Noire, Fight Night series, Skyrim, Dragon's Dogma, Deadspace - that kind of games, some are not strictly SP only, but still.
Btw, now that you have mentioned bad console games - my top worst:

Ridge Racer 7 ( hands down worst PS3 title i ever had... a full priced disaster! )
Armored Core 4 ( Have both original Japanese and UK versions. why?! why!!!? worse than ps2 games from that series )
Destiny Warriors 7 ( or 6? or 5?... it's just terrible :( don't know what was I expecting from that one )
WWE 2010 ( or 2011?.. the only ood thing i can say about this one - i spent few hours making the most ridiculous transsexual bundle of stickss, wearing leather, high heels and such, with a 3 min long intros, and forced people to watch it all online, before the round starts, and i would quit the game as soon as the intro was over :() i am an evil, evil man... )

Well there's New Game+, which lets you keep all your upgrades and such, and allows you to continue them, which I like the idea of, and you unlock new difficulties of course!

It's not the most spectacular thing in the world, but I wouldn't say it sucks. I quite enjoy it, it's a nice breath of fresh air from most multiplayer shooters. It's a lot more focused on tactics, stealth, and scavenging. Which is a pretty fun idea for a multiplayer shooter!
