Title: Is there any specific reason the heavy throwing axes were nerfed?
Post by: Carac on June 15, 2013, 12:27:33 am
By nerfed I mean 2 to a stack instead of 3. I just don't see the point to it

i wanna know why too!!!
it's make no sense for heavy throwing axe nerf.
Maybe devs should give it 60c throwing damage compare to throwing lancer 60p(ammo 2:1 , damage 60c : 60p. it make senses)
and buff it 65 length. Make HTA a not bad melee and throwing weapon.

i think they increased the damage of the axes as well as the slots nerf ... i believe they were trying to balance the 3 throwing axes, they increased the number of franciscas as well ...

before the change there was no point whatsoever in taking franciscas or regular throwing axes

Celebrate diversity.

I use one slot of these babies as a replacement for my 1h weapon. If we forget about the skill cost for a moment, being able to throw the first one almost outweights their melee stats that are certainly impressive for a throwing weapon but clearly not good compared to true 1h. Please keep this weird niche.

Before this patch, no one ever took franciscas or regular throwing axes unless they didn't have 4 PT yet. Francisca is still much worse than war darts IMO, but throwing axe and javelins seem on par now. The throwing axes have a better alt mode, but javelins have faster missile speed and do pierce damage.

Heavy throwing axe still has the best alt mode of any throwing weapon. I'd take them over throwing lances if it was melee only.

The melee mode of throwing lances is quite insane for polespam though.

Except no one uses ANY kind of throwing axe now. The regular throwing axe and francisca still have pitiful damage per stack, so they are ignored as always. I've switched to Jarids (along with every other hybrid thrower), because all of the axe options have inferior damage per stack.

Of course, you'll read the above and decide to nerf Jarids, when you could actually buff the other throwing weapons to be on par with jarids.

Heavy throwing axes are still OK & useful, there has been an overreaction regarding how poorly they are perceived now BUT still the damage was not boosted enough to compensate for ammo reduction.

You can clearly see this when comparing them to other high end throwing.
Jarids 3 ammo @ 40 pierce
HTA 2 ammo @ 47 cut
lance 1 ammo @ 60 pierce

Clearly HTA is underwater on that linear line especially when cut is weaker than pierce. It should be boosted to 51 cut to match other weapon damage values.

Throwing axes strength is the speed bonus, specially when throwing them against horses.
They have their utility as anti-cav tools, that's all. So don't compare them with Jarids, who are much more precise, faster, and thus perfect for shooting people. Nearly a waste to throw them on horses.
