Title: 2hand cav vs 1hand cav
Post by: bagele on June 04, 2013, 03:54:43 am
Pros/cons?

I've gotten pretty good with 1hand cav but I am getting pretty annoyed at a lack of range/power when im on foot in strat and stuff.

at first i am 2h cav mysel and i pretty much enjoy it. In strat abttles i can pretty much one hit kill anyone if i have morningtar, other weapons are also pretty effective but not againts standart grey order armor ( heraldic transitional and other heavy, nasty stuff), when i get dismounted i also can stand for myself because everyone likes when you hit them in the head with morningstar .As for simple playing i use bardiche because of its reach, i started playing with morningstar but it felt too short for me, than i switched to great axe, which was awesome weapon (especialy to spam on walls in siege), but it also felt too short after a while. And now as i said i use bardiche, pretty damn nice reach and i can oneshot almost anyone and i sometimes outreach cheaters with 1h ghost reach (which will be pretty big problem since they are faster and obviously longer than your weapon). Personaly i think 2h cav is superior to other cavalry types such as lancer or shielder or god helps ranged cav. With time you can learn how to trick lancers and 1 h cav and you stop them with your horse and can easily dehorse them and kill while they get up. Long story short -2h cav is ultimate class.

1h cav is better in one thing, when you stop the other cav you can spam them and kill their pony, also ur weapon will hit first because of speed if you do it correctly.
Bad thing is that you need to go very fast with pony to one hit someone, and you need a lot of hits to kill other people horse without speed bonus.
About 2h cav it is good dmg,you can one hit other people, heavy horses if you get good speed bonus, you can kill stopped riders in one or two hits, but you can easily get shot because you don't have a shield.
Use bardiche,or that persian axe,you cant be more gay then that. 50 cut axe on horse,OP!

Im nut sure....

The shield is good in so many situations, while 1h may suffer in dmg it gains on survivability

50 cut axe on horse,OP!

It's acutally 75%*50c=37,5c afaik. So slightly higher damage than the arabian cav sword. Morningstar can be used with a shield too with 1H wpf and I often do that on strat battles where people are in full plate.

Average player will suck as 2H cav, but some players like Latvian are really hard to fight even though 1H does have a slight advantage due to swing speed. He knows how to use the slow speed of the bardiche to his advantage maneuvering the horse. Some players do the same with heavy lance (Mastercav for example) and they are equally hard to fight. I doubt the devs meant the slow speed to be an advantage but it is in certain situations.

2H cav:
slightly more damage
looks more badass
cheaper
possibly better when dehorsed

1H cav:
can spam 2H and lance cav
has a shield to block multiple enemies or ranged

1H is pretty good on foot aswell and you actually have more range than any 2H weapon that can be used on horseback. Learn to right swing :)

They're both solid classes, but the shield and the fast swings makes 1h cav superior imo.

I have decided to try 2hand cav for a gen to see how it is. Gonna try this for my build.

21/18

7 IF
7 PS
6 Riding
3 Ath? ( I didn't think 3 WM would really change my damage much since I plan to be the mountain that rides)

I'm currently trying 1h cav / infantry build
15/21
5PS, 7 Riding, 7 Ath, rest of the points in shield and wm in whatever order you llike.

I have wpf in 1h and polearms, on some maps its better to (great)lance with courser, other maps are better for heavy horse bumping with 1h. When dehorsed and you're able to stand up its nice for melee also with the 7 Ath and I manage to get another horse quite often. Its more of a brawler build and definitely not a 1hit build, very nice for infantry support in small fights or to help ranged teammates to get distance from enemy melee.

Heavy Bastard (105), Longsword (106), Shortened Military Scythe (112) and Practice Longsword (117).

Longest 1h is Arabian Cavalry Sword at 105.

HBS, Longsword and Practice Longsword outreaches it with stab, SMS uses polestab but still outreaches it on swings just from the base length + 2h animation reach bonus.

True, but... HBS and Longsword do far less damage than ACS on horseback so nobody (good) uses them. SMS is useless both on foot and on horseback and Practice Longsword is only good for trolling. Only useful 2H cav weapons are shorter than ACS and have no lolstab (Bardiche, Persian Battle Axe, Great Axe and Morningstar).

Shortened military scythe is definitely not useless on foot and horseback. :)

Its worth it to have 4 IF and 6 ATH instead.  Wear heavy armor though, and fill out IF at 31 or something. One of the best parts of 2hand cav is getting dismounted around gay pikemen and other bad classes then getting back up as a fully OP 2hander ready to cause havoc. Becomes really fun in strat battles and can help out your team by messing up formations.
