Didn't they fix the Zombies movements and animations? It's too hard to predict how they move to be able to shoot them, especially when they teleport.

they said they did, but it sure doesn't look like it, zombies zigzagging, teleporting and hitting through walls were the most annoying things in dayzmod

Yeah, map and player movement seems to be greatly improved, but.. This still not enough to impress after all this time  :P

Shinier graphics as well. Hopefully that means less of a resource hog if it's put together properly. The main issue I've always had is with the zombies and inventory. One of them seems fixed. If they do indeed manage to fix the zombies then I will be a happy bunny. But in their current state I am very unimpressed.

The only thing that could be said is this was a single player build. Would be interesting to see what the new multiplayer set up is like. Any way rumour has it open alpha shall be soon. They said they would review the possibility in June.

Why can't they just make the zombies move and act smoothly like in L4D2 :o

And anyone heard of that game "The Division"? It doesn't have Zombies in it but it seems somewhat similar only that it is more casual and more PvP.

Yeah The Division is a Clancy game iirc, probs a survival GR game, only saw it briefly though.

PLayed the new dayz patch a bit today. Zombies infect you really quickly, knock you on your arese, theres a lot less loot, as50 and m107 have been removed (plus damage set to 0 in case ppl spawn them in). Its a lot more survivey.

Well glad to see you can move and shoot at the same time now...one of my biggest pet peeves from the mod.

Also the wonky zombies shaking all over the place made it very difficult to line up a shot on them (coming from someone who has played 1000's of hours of first person shooters).

My only other pet peeve from Day Z mod (which made me rage quit) was the terrible registration of bullets on people... I was stalking a group of armed players (3 of them) into a back yard, I turned the corner and was about 15 feet from one of the guys, none of them were looking at me, I lined up my shotgun at his neck and shot, didn't die.  Lined up another shot around his neck area (to catch both head and chest), nothing, as he turned to return fire I shot one last time and nothing happened, he then proceeded to open up on me with his buddies and I died.  It was annoying as shit.

Zombies are still poo

I dont bloody get it. They have been developing this shit for so long. And zombies are still fucked up. I mean they were occasionally like 5 meters away from the player and just randomly hit him + loads of other shit. I mean what the fuck! Its a game about zombies! Why the fuck didnt the work on the zombies? Since the game is about freaking zombies! How fucking hard is it to make AI for ZOMBIES! All they needed to do was make the game harder to hack in multi, inventory system, fix looting and bloody fix zombies. All the other stuff im pretty sure we could have lived without. Im starting to think that the ARMA engine is the worst thing ever for pulling this kinda stuff off....

Rocket has stated that the zombies are only 50% done and that he is completely not happy with them atm. But remember! This shit is still pre alpha!!!

On the "THEY HAVE BEEN DEVELOPING FOR AGES!" blah blah blah. They completely changed tact and are now basically building a whole new engine for themselves. So back in December when they started doing that they had to scrap pretty much everything!

Just chill winston, serialls.

emblematic of the stupidity of crying about a game in pre-alpha dev.

Yes but as we have been told endless times on this forum, saying it's pre-alpha means absolutely fuck all.
Title: Re: Some Dayz Standalone videos.
Post by: NejStark on June 16, 2013, 02:10:11 pm
Yeah, I'm a game developer myselfand 'pre-alpha' is very ambiguous. Alpha is pretty much 1/4 done if you look at the standard development cycle of FPP->Alpha->Beta->Gold. Ive never actually heard the term 'pre-alpha'used before dayz.
It can either mean, 'we don't know when it'll be done so were calling it 'pre 3 milestones before release' ',
or it can mean that they're taking a very long time to get it alpha.

Alpha should be one or two working example of every mechanic, script template, mode, etc with placeholder assets where required. I get the feeling they're feature-creeping, maybe even platform-creeping, and its proving to take a long time that they cant really see the end of right now, but they think they'll get a return on it, which they might, and they want to people to know its a way off, but want to give it some jargon gamers will swallow - 'pre-alpha'.

Standalone is going to be available for PS4, they might want it to be available on release, and getting a title working on a new platform isnt easy, especially when you havent even fully got everything nailed down on PC where you made the damn thing.
Im not holding my breath at all for SA tbh, I'm still enjoying the mod.

You guys played the new patch with z's knocking you down and infecting you really easily?  1.7.7 i think it is.

Looked it up and pre-alpha seems to be a legit term, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/07/Software_dev2.svg/250px-Software_dev2.svg.png (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/07/Software_dev2.svg/250px-Software_dev2.svg.png)

Ive never actually heard the term 'pre-alpha'used before dayz.

Pre-Alpha was heavily used for War of the Roses.

We all know how that turned out.

Pre-Alpha is an euphemism for "Actually alpha but too shit to bear that tag"

They should've just used the Arma 3 engine FFS. I'm sure it would've worked a lot better in the long run.

pre-alpha is the new black! Look at Planet Annihilation.
Every time i start my Steam, and see it on the front page, I get the same feelings, most people get when they click on a link to a funny cat GIF, and see a hardcore shemale beastiality gore instead.
What an insult! I wouldn't say i work very hard for my money, not like some poor schmuck in China, but i sure don't get it for nothing! And to see 83 Euro price tag, for a pre-pre-alpha-piece-of-shit-pile-of-good-for-nothing-garbage infuriates me with rage! A bunch of fat greedy nerds are stuffing their enormous abdomens with caviar, and clearing their lying throats with Cristal, while i need to sweat in this heat, on one of the lowest paid jobs in this country, WTF?!
Ok, ok, i was sitting on my ass, reading forums all morning. Even so! :) No excuse for such an extortion!

Not even sure where I am going with this, i will just post this gif, that describes my feels:

Wouldn't it be funny if the end when DayZ inevitably gets ported to Arma 3, it ends up being better than the stand-alone.

Running animations looks nice, sidestepping too.

Isn't pre-alpha the final result of an EA game?

Not sure if well optimized....
Or beast PC.

Well optimized? Looks exactly like Arma 2 - relatively low FPS and choppy at times.

and zombie AI still looks crap (although slightly better than the previous devblog abomination)

It does look better with out a doubt. Although the little things nag me, like when the guys jumped over the fence they actually jumped through it. Or how fast the scuttle alone the ground when crouched.
