Hello, i'd like to address something in this thread which concerned me since like forever, but especially since i started making maps. I'll just make a list here, should be a lot easier to see what i think is wrong with this subject, which is the main reason why my motivation to play this mod dropped significantly.
- First of all: Updating Maps/Map-cycle. It takes WAY too long. I submitted my first maps 3 months before they got implemented and another month before my updated version got on the servers. Please, for the love of this mod, put someone active (jacko was very active but i've got the feeling that since melee started there were rarely any updates. Last patch i didn't download any new/updated maps, so i guess noone updated the cycle) in charge of this and make him able to update it as OFTEN as he wants. And yes, i might as well be talking about me, but could be anyone.
- Don't just delete maps out of the cycle. Every map can be fixed so please just notify the maker before deleting it. That ofc goes along with someone who can actively do that. Deleting them without comments just demotivates the mapmakers, which are already a rare species.
- FIX the new siege mode and put it back into siege. It is WAY superior to the old one. People already made maps especially for this and those maps would really help to keep everybody entertained on siege. The potential of this mode is huge, yet it takes forever to fix it. Well, actually it never got fixed, it just got out of the server and that's it. I myself spend a LOT of time to update my old maps to the new siege and also made one especially for it and now it's just gone? I bet there are more mapmakers out there who are very upset about this, not just me.
- Encourage people to make maps. If someone successfully made a map for any kind of gamemode let him get some credit if he wants to. Could be as simple as a little notification who made this map when you join the server or when the map changes, and could be up to giving out loompoints when someone made many good maps that people like. The contest of Zlisch was nice, but failed due to the issue in nr1. in my list.
- Upvote/Downvote should be back. And players should be forced to vote once the map ends. Otherwise they would just downvote when they see a map they don't like, instead of also upvoting the ones they do like.
That is all for now, if i forgot something (Which i probably did) i'll update this post.

I like old siege better than conquest, just keep em mixed.
I agree with you on the map maker things, but I don't think upvoting/downvoting should be mandatory.

Agree to all points fips made.
Mapmaking is a timeconsuming thing to do, and the current situation is really demotivating. One of the things that was msot attractive to me when i started m&b multiplayer compared to other games, was the endless variety in maps. Where in most fps for example each map is quickly figured out, and becomes more of a routine to play, as where the 22nd native servers for example had load of new maps all the time. Crpg no longer really has this.
Tbh, the 2 testmaps for the new siege kind of sucked, i would love playing some of the current maps, slightly adjusted with multiple capture spots. Thats how i imagined it when it got announced some months ago, but the beta maps were a rather plain and tacticless slaughterfest. The only balance there was the force of each team, map advantages/ disadvantages were irrelevant there (no holding gates, no small alley's to hold at, just plain tdm).

Yes, I really enjoy making maps, but it also takes an arse load of time. I have made 4 maps for this mod, of which the last one about 2 months a go. I have only seen 2 of them on the server, of which 1 has had wrong spawns for 2 months even though I uploaded a fix the day I saw it. Can't really be arsed to make maps like this. Make Fips the new map manager or something :P
Please fix conquest, it had potential, all it needed was some good maps and minor bugfixes.
Upvoting and downvoting is a brilliant system to aid the map manager in selecting maps, even if people only downvote maps they dislike, which I doubt honestly. That is really all you're looking for though, the maps that have to be taken out, nothing wrong with keeping maps in that no one particularly dislikes.
-
If up/downvoting was enforced people would just randomly press 1 or 2 like they do polls, so yeah... but seriously, we need a new map manager, Jacko did a good job when he did the job, but he doesn't seem all that interested in it anymore. What's a lot worse than map makers not being notified of their maps being broken and therefore removed is maps (like one of your castles Fips) being brokenly unbalanced and then still being in the rotation, if a map is broken it should be removed until (unfortunately it'll take 3+ months) the rotation is updated and a fix can be implemented.
OBITUS FOR MAP MANAGER 2013!

Updating old maps to the new mode should still be done, if it ever gets fixed by Ozin. I'm not talking about changing the amount of flags or anything. Same spawnpoints, same flags, same time and spawn-timer, just with the new overview and spawn-system that the new mode has to offer. At least that's what i had in mind and what i would actually like to do. So still old siege, just with the new fancy stuff^^
But then again, the time i would invest in this could just turn out to be wasted, so i'm not feeling lucky.
@Haboe: The maps were alright. Just needed a few adjustments to make it actually balanced. Just changing the timer didn't make it better and nobody did anything different.
@Teeth: Yeah, your probably right about the qmd/qmu, but afaik it never actually worked.
New maps were already there for this mode. The one you made looked fuckin amazing, i transformed mine to the new one (Although the only one i was really excited about was Helms Deep, because this one was the most fitting for conquest and the one i loved making) but noone ever considered putting them in while the mode was still tested. I even started making a new one for this mode, which is about 70% finished (Never to be 100%, because why would i do that), and now the mode is just gone. Well, probably not gone, but it doesn't get the attention it deserves.
Maybe devs are waiting before they finished the new xp/gold-system, since maps are a lot longer, but as with many things right now we can just assume stuff without anyone actually telling us anything specific =(
Zlisch, i know what map you are talking about, and i've updated it a veeeeeery long time ago. That's all i can do, the rest is up to the devs themself. And since i saw no updated version i guess it's out of the cycle now or noone gave a crap.

Well, just got the "confirmation" that a change to the map-updates is never gonna happen, so i'll stop bumping this thread and let it fall into thread-oblivion. *sheds one tear*

They say why?
-
So they have officially abandoned cRPG then for M:BG? Not even giving out new positions for things like updating/adding maps.
-
I don`t think the devs would actually ever leave c-rpg to die, but I also believe that they won`t keep releasing patches on a steady note.
IMO, they could hire 4-5 new devs to take over from them, and do all the scrub work, and the now devs offering advice to the new ones, yes??
-
They say why?
Too much work. Probably swamped with m:bg-stuff, which imo always comes first. Although it really saddens me to have read that news.
But i'll bother jacko as soon as i can. The fact that we definitely have to wait for updates to the maps until a new patch comes and jacko not really updating it (Referring to the last patch that came out) is not gonna cut it for me. I will also try to contact Ozin to see if he still gives a fuck about the new siege mode.
-
I just fail to se what is so hard about recruiting new devs, I saw plenty of applicants.
Like Panos said they could give some advice to the new devs and before releasing patches and such the head devs ( like chadz and cmp ) will look over it, then have it released.

dude conquest will never work with 30 minute rounds. nobody wants to get stuck with x1 for 30 straight minutes. and rofl what if the map doesn't change? 60 minutes?
The real problem is the way xp is earned. I remember reading about how they might change it, any news on that?

Just pointed something out there for you.

Sad, very sad. Even more because there are plenty of people here in the community who could and would offer some time and take a little look on the map rotation every two weeks or so. Imo it's not that important to throw out new armours and stuff in a patch every few months. The devs also got some other jobs to do. But not allowing people to let them do something obivously positive for the mod is just sad. The know how and willingness is there.

You can set the time how long the rounds are. With this mode it will be so much easier to balance out maps that are a little too big for 7 minutes and 1 flag and which could be perfect with let's say 2 flags and 10-15 minutes ;)
Also, a lot of people actually liked the mode, simply for it's tdm-style. I just don't like the fact that you sometimes had no chance of winning from the very first second of the round, because of its bugs and unfixed maps.
