Always knew Wisconsin had a lot of bars, but 3 times as many as Minnesota, that's insane.  It is funny when you go into a lot of small towns in Wisconsin (under 1000 people for population) and they have 3 or 4 bars on main street.

I was somewhat suprised NY was so low, but then I remembered there is more to New York then the five boroughs and long island.

Southern states have the lowest number of bars. Interesting.

Perhaps its related to weather, as the more southern climes have people able to go out and do more much more often during the year than the northern states.

In addition, I think I've heard that Snow tends to depress people making them want to drink more.(Not sure on this)

Lol North Dakota 1 per 1580. That's not really America up there anyways, just southern Canada.

It is a misleading breakdown. It all depends upon what gets labeled as a "bar". Places that serve food can be labeled as a restaurant, but primarily be a place where people drink. Same thing for "dance halls" and other places. Then other establishments call themselves a "Bar and Grill" when the "bar" is a 4 foot counter big enough for 2 people to sit side by side. Its all in the name. Places will call themselves one thing and yet be another in order to get around local zoning laws.
