Title: 1st of May 2013, International Worker's Day and Thoughts About it!
Post by: Abay on May 01, 2013, 09:17:10 am
International Workers' Day
International Workers' Day (a name used interchangeably with May Day) is a celebration of the social and economic achievements of the international labour movement. May Day commonly sees organized street demonstrations by hundreds of thousands of working people and their labour unions throughout Europe and most of the rest of the world in neither the United States nor Canada. Other groups such as communists and anarchists are also given to widespread street marches on this day as well.

Well, It is mainly a celebration day and national holiday in Turkey. They say Turkey has democracy, but who believes it(!). In Istanbul government tries to use their all police force for blocking people meet eachother in squares. This day had to be a celebration day of workers but it is a tyranny now. I am posting some photos down there from morning in Turkey today. The police use pepper gasses, police sticks and pressured water for spreading people from squares. And the tourists are shocked with these happenings today. It is a black day for Turkey and this will be remebered. To the knowledge of the world. Long live humanity...

-Pepper gasses created a great fog.

-Police blocks seaway for not allowing people to pass euro side of Istanbul, really funny and sad for humanity
(click to show/hide)

-Usage of pressured water onto people
(click to show/hide)

-Blocking usage of bridges so people cannot meet eachother in Istanbul
(click to show/hide)

-Here is Istiklal Street, there are only polices. How sad
(click to show/hide)

I dont know if u can see photos and videos, I will probably add more links in day time. This had to be a celebration, not a cruelty. Hope people will ot forget this in the future. Dont believe capital media. They lies to people. They say ''those are communists'', those are islamists'', ''those are some terrorist groups'' , etc.. We see that kind of definitions on that kind of happenings many times. But no, here is only workers. They were there for celebration their Worker's Day, and police beat them. Dont think Turkey has a democracy. What a lie!

For following the happenings in the day, you can watch ulusalkanal tv in Turkish: http://ulusalkanaliletisim.com.tr/ or you can follow Turkish Youth Union: http://www.tgb.gen.tr/    no idea if the page has english trasnlation yet

I was in Taksim Square yesterday. They set their barriers for holding people for not celebrating that. Current government uses the police force like SS of H-i-t-l-e-r. If you research a bit, you will see many similar things between A.H. and Erdogan f-a-g-g-o-t.

I'd really want to know how today is celebrated in countries other than Turkey. Because the news do not show what is happening outside of Turkey here.

It`s the same in every country, all the left political parties demonstrate against capitalism and the bank system.

Yes i am free of the cattle behavior that humans display, i dont go out and "celebrate" random dates. Yesterday it was queensday in the netherlands, but no gives a about the queen, just a free day and reason to party. Nah i have better stuff to do.

As for first of may, it's something of the old age, no one really cares about it today imo. Something of the generation of my parents, i have nothing with it.

I don't see many people celebrating the end of the Franco-Prussian War or the inventors of the light bulb. Why should social reforms get everybody out in the streets ?

Why should social reforms get everybody out in the streets ?

Panos called him out for calling a celebration of a victory for individual rights, an indication of herd-mentality that is beneath him. I don't think Panos is arguing for mandatory getting out of the house days.

Why so stingy, damn Balkan and Greek and Turkish filth. 8-)

Sorry to hear about violence in Turkey, but I think many could not care less about political unrest in other countries than their own or possibly neighbouring countries.

Anyway, 1st of May for me is a day I get to relax, BBQ with friends, generally feel good about the coming Spring (in Sweden it's a big, big deal) and kiss some girls later at night after getting buzzed. :)

Saw some demonstrations today, though.

Before you say anything, yes I know I'm privileged and live in a beautiful country with decent government and social welfare etc etc, never complained.

I think we just don't like being patronised by young people who have nothing to do with the state of their country yet they act as if they did something of worldy importance in their life and their main argument is: i am rich why aren't u? lazy!

but it's all good, it came out wrong and we all hugged and made up.

hey man i bet 90% of the world would want to live in Sweden, nobody is hating on you for that im sure and it's cool that u realise what great opportunity u have, but being a dick about it is the thing that pisses people off.

Supposedly i live in a somewhat poor country. But then i don't complain about it and work in a job that pays over twice the average salary (hoping for three times the average within a year), so... where does that put me in this whole picture? I feel rich, relatively :D

I wasn't patronizing, I know how it's like in Hungary, Turkey etc. The unemployment rate is a big issue in most of eastern Europe.

We must keep being hopeful and try to do what we can. And people like in Canada must see bad happenings in anywhere in the world as barbarian thing, dictatorship then censure responsible governments. So the humanity will improve itself better and faster.

We have a lot of Greeks here in Canada. The smart, hard-working ones who figured out to leave Europe. Now they can return and buy vacation islands at cheap prices. All Europeans who want to work hard can come to Canada, you will have to stop May day communism riots though.
